May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Does anyone have detailed pics or close ups of Mal's pistol? I am looking for something that will let me see as much detail as possible so I can get a replica made that is as close as possible to the original.

I have a friend that makes replicas of weapons for anything you can imagine; Sci Fi, historical, modern, fantasy, etc.

I got him hooked on Firefly and he is helping me w/ my Browncoat costume for conventions, shindigs, Halloween, etc. The more detailed the photos, the better the replica.

Thanks for any help you might be able to give me.

GUNSLINGER

I am not sure what Mal's gun is built on. Jaynes is a LeMat revolver, a Civil War era 9 shooter with a tenth shot in a seperate shotgun barrel under the main barrel. They also used a LeMat in the final scene of 12 Monkeys.

Mal's pistol is in fact the only one I can't positively identify. Other contemporary and antique firearms I have notived in the show include:
DSHK, a Soviet heavy machine gun.
Astra 400, a pre WWII Spanish service pistol.
G-36, Current German assault rifle.
Various versions of the Kalashnikov.
Winchester Model 1894. The most popular hunting rifle of the last 110 years.
Sig/Blaser LRS-2, an awesome sniper rifle.
Remington scrounger carbine, Civil War carbine based on the Remington Army reviolver.

I could go on, but you get my point. This is nothing new. In the original Star Wars the guns included Sterling sub-machine guns, WWI era Lewis guns, MG-34s, an 1896 Mauser, and a Hi-Standard target pistol. At least in Aliens they dressed the pulse rifles up enough that they did not look too much like Tommy-guns.

I wll see if I can get a good enough pictue to tell what Mal's gun is a dressed up version of.

Thanks MrGreen!

Thanks for the info Gunslinger. I was noticing in Out of Gas last night that Jayne's gun is a modified Lemat. In the flashback w/ Jayne holding his pistol on Mal & Zoe you can clearly see that the cylinder has 9 chambers. Looks like they capped the shotgun barrel. Still cool though!

Zoe's gun is a sawed off 1894 Winchester. Looks like a .44 Magnum or .45 Colt chambering by the size of the bore.
