I've been periodically tracking the DVD ranking and reviews on Amazon since getting the boxed set and becoming re-hooked. Here's some fun with numbers.

425 reviews - 5 star average ranking
22 - 4 star reviews
2 - 3 star reviews (all written before DVD release)
3 - 2 star reviews (all written before DVD release)
6 - 1 star reviews (only one written after DVD release)

Wow! Just proving what everyone keeps repeating on these boards - all you have to do to hook someone on Firefly is get them to watch the show (in the correct order, that is).

What's odd is that people will actually buy the series after only seeing the reviews. Two people that I know of, one on Amazon and one here, had never heard of the series yet bought it because of the reviews. I personally would never do that, because idiotic newspaper reviewers have disillusioned me.

Yeah, but newspaper reviewers are much different than fan reviews. I did the same thing right after the release of the series to DVD. I never even heard of the show on TV, but after I read the first few reviews I bought the set and loved it! The same with Buffy and Angel shows, I never watched them on tv (still don't) and I'm caught up on all the seasons released so far and I'm hooked!
