My main beef is with the subtitles. Don't these people get the script beforehand? If not, then don't they even listen? I picked out the line down there even over the roar of the engine and simultaneously reading that zany subtitle. I submit to y'all that TV people need to hire actual fans, or people that care at any rate, to do a job, so as they're getting peoples' best efforts.

Of course they'd never do such a thing. 'specially Fox. They seem to take a perverse pleasure at ticking fans off. Maybe we should get a petition going to boycott Fox. We'd certainly have the support of the 10,000 signatures on the Save Firefly petition, as well as those who wanted to save Futurama and Family Guy, and maybe even Space Above and Beyond. Minus the overlap of course. Man, Fox doesn't do a lot right, does it? Maybe they just need to explain it from their point of view.

Oh, and that other bit's just cool. My favorite bit of DVD commentary so far. It's hi-larious what they get away with. Like how the episodes are out of order on the DVD. It just supports that they're the ragtag, mixed up, desperado underdogs, just trying to get by.

Two points, I'll get them out of the way right here.

1) Subtitles are often wrong. Case in point, in the episode "Safe," the line is "You got a talent for alienatin' people, it's miraculous" (Mal to the Doctor), and the subtitle makes it "(inaudible) it's miraculous." There are others, but this is the episode I just got done watching.

2) Wash isn't holding anything at the end of "Serenity" when he's supposed to be holding the steering yoke! Man, the stuff they get away with...

The commentary on this states that when this scene was shown in full screen format this gaffe isn't visible.

I agree that subtitles are rarely accurate. But I have seen much worse than the ones for firefly. Just one example, the subtitles for the Alias box sets are some of the worst I have seen.

I noticed that in serenity, when Inara takes off, at the beginning, and when she is flying to Serenity, she is holding the steering yolk upsidown.

Oh, and also, when the squibs go off on the character next to Mal in the beginning of serenity, Mal blinks, but they CG it out real fast.

Last one that I saw in the two episodes today: In shindig, when Inara walks into the party, she is on Atherton's right arm, then they walk behind the column she switches arms.

The one that always bugged me is the 'crazy ivan' scene at the end of 'Serenity' -- they were supposed to show the left thruster spin around and fire backwards first, then spin back to normal but they got the two close-up shots reversed, so they don't make sense if you are watching carefully.

What do you mean about the eps being out of order?? They're in the right order on the DVD.

They're not in the order they were aired, but the order they're in now doesn't cause any continuity errors. I guess it makes sense. I was under the impression that Heart of Gold was the last episode. It makes sense that they'd leave it at a cliffhanger for the next season (if there were one). Now that you mention it, I see how Objects in Space is the last one.

My mistake was watching Objects in Space with the commentary on the first time through, instead of second. I thought it was the same as the aired version. Anyway, I thought Mal and Inara were just butting heads, like usual. I didn't hear them talking about her decision to leave, making it all final-like. Their romantic tension works out fine during the season, but I was so hoping those two would work it out before the end!!!

I'm actually under the impression that Tim Minear intended for "Heart of Gold" to air last. The "Previously on Firefly" segment of "Heart of Gold" (which was deleted for the DVD version) even contained clips from both "The Message" and "Objects in Space," as well as other episodes.

But the episodes ARE on the DVD in the order Joss Whedon wanted.
