I just saw Ariel, sorry not sure if I am spelling it right, again and I thought of something. The first time I saw the show, I noticed that river's brain tweaks out when Jayne lies to Simon about taking the back way out... I always assumed she was reacting to his lie, not the people who entered the building... time to watch the commentary!

I believe it was reacting to Jayne's lie. If memory serves, the Blue Hand Duo wasn't in the building yet.

The Blue Hands were not in the building yet. They arrived awhile after Jayne, River & Simon were taken by the Feds.

I am not certain if River's brain was reacting to the lie, though that seems as plausible as anything else. I had thought at first that perhaps it was some sort of "flare", kind of like when River has her moments of creepy clarity when she has one of her precognitive episodes.

Did Simon take out the memory tab before or after the brain scan detected the increased activity?

It would've been interesting to have seen a future episode where Simon gets to that part of the memory tab that recorded the increased activity and show River's powers (or some of them) at work.

I am not really sure. I will have to go back and rewatch it. For some reason I am thinking it was afterwards. The acitivy happened when Jayne was telling Simon that the plan had changed and he had less time than Simon had originally thought. I think he was still in the middle of getting data.

Yea, Simon took the data card after the increase activity but its hard to say if it happen before it was done copying.
