It would appear that Serenity day was a big success. I'm sure it got someone's attention. We have shown that not only are there a lot of us, but that some of us have money to burn, and they like taking that money from us. So now what?

I have a feeling that the Sci-Fi channel is airing the Firefly marathon next month to see how many people will watch. I think someone around there wants to do more with it. Just look at how many ads they were running for Serenity. So the first step is to actually watch it. Then I think we should contact Sci-Fi to tell them we appreciate it.

And one more thing - Tell them we want more. I say we focus on a mini-series. Sci-Fi seems to like making those, and it wouldn't tie up Joss Whedon and others quite as much as a series would. It also wouldn't be quite as expensive as a movie, or as short.

Someone once suggested that we use brown paper. I like that. Then even without reading it, they know what it says.

Well, there's my 2 Cents worth. If anyone knows how to contact the Sci-Fi channel, let me know. And if you're in on my plan, then let's do it.

Guay yeah more!
Series starting, spin off, another movie, mini series, comics, books, animated TV series... all sounds good!

I love this idea! Every FF fan in the 'verse should tune in to Sci-Fi that day, and watch every episode. And then we have a letter-writing campaign thanking them for it and asking to look into a mini-series.

Personally, i think a mini-series is by far the best idea. Why? Well it won't cost as much as a movie, it'd be longer, and doesn't force a big commitment like a series does. And Sci-Fi could do it, because Universal owns the rights to make a movie. And they could simply say that the mini-series is simply a super-long movie. And it would be a great gauge for how viable a series w/o Wash and Book with a saner River could be.

Shiny, very shiny.

I aim to misbehave.

Couldn't find a physical address on their website, but here's the page with the info on it:
http://www.scifi.com/feedback/

Also found this phone number on another site, if you care to speak to a human about who best to send paper thank-you letters to:

SCI-FI CHANNEL
Viewer Hotline and Feedback Email
Phone: 212-413-5679
Email: feedback@www.scifi.com
Email: programming@www.scifi.com

Also, keep the letter light, and thank them for airing Firefly and giving it a chance to be seen by more folks. If you mention the desire for a mini-series or more eps, please do it tastefully. Don't want to give our fellow Browncoats a bad name!

I myself plan on just sending a shiny email to both addresses, thanking them for supporting the 'verse, and that I'll keep watching if they keep showing. And I'll get my friends to, too.

I too love the brown paper idea. This is why I come to this site. If we unite and are truly willing to take some form of ACTION then you never know the impossible might happen again. Honestly Scifi has had some truly crap programming lately and every time we happen to catch some of it my sister or I will start saying "Dear Scifi, I'd like to tell you about a little show called Firefly. It would make a great new series for you, or a miniseries, or movie of the week, or etc..." We also start the spiel above when viewing other channels crap programming. I noticed a thread earlier today that talked about contacting Fox and asking for more Firefly, I think we should contact other networks - Scifi especially via snail email phone whatever and tell them they have a built in fan base who is willing to work to pimp the show should they be genius enough to revive it. You never know what might happen. So I'm there let's write Scifi and round up some more 'coats to do the same. What about writing on unmarked brown paper bags, even easier to distinguish from other paper - texture!

I suffer from tragic space dementia.

I found this address at http://www.intercom.net/user/lenc/add2.html#SCI ,
and I checked it on whitepages.com. It seems to be accurate.

Sci-Fi Channel or
USA Network
1230 Ave. of the Americas
New York, NY 10020

I agree that we should be subtle about this. And please don't start bashing Fox... I am going to write something along these lines:

"I am writing to thank you for airing the Firefly series and for promoting the movie Serenity. I want you to know that I whole heartedly support the show, and will continue to watch whenever it is on, be it re-runs or new material in the form of a mini-series, tv movie, or a weekly series. Thanks again."

Animated is probably the only way to continue Firefly as a series and retain all of the cast.

I'd be happy to se any of Joss' tales of the verse in what ever form. I could imagine some cool prequel mini-series dealing with Mal and Zoe's browcoat days or Book's backstory. Something based on a post-Miranda revolution could be cool as well.

I only just recently bought and watched Firefly TV and now totally adore it. Will be buying some family members copies, to do my "part.* But I have a question though on what you guys are talking about, i.e. continuing the show with a sane River/no more Wash and even the suggestion one person mentioned of the show being animated... Although I realize all of this is idle speculation at best, would it be totally unlikely/impossible for the show to just be continued from the last episode, like the movie never happened? I liked the movie, but I LOVED the show...anyone think there's a chance if it gets picked up, it'll get picked up like there was never a break? Well I guess I'll be glad if it gets picked up at all...but the pace of the show was so good and I LIKED the insane River...she was cool in the movie, but the TV character was just better...

Would it be of any use for those of us outside the US to write letters also? We don't get the Sci-fi channel in Canada, and we're not much of a market compared to the US, but I'm definitely willing to write a letter. Aw heck, I'll probably write one even it if doesn't matter.

Why not write one? It can't hurt to try. It never hurts to try. Even if the best you can do is make a statement, you've done something.

Trust me - even if they don't give us what we want, they hear our voices when we write & send items.

The brown paper is a great idea, by the way. Something more original makes more of a statement.

I say all of this as an Everwood fan who's participated to the best of her ability in the SaveEverwood campaign... we, as a group, have sent e-mails, letters, phone calls, pinecones, sheet music, and (we hope, this plan is in the works) an actual Ferris wheel. Has all of that gotten us more Everwood? Not yet. But, we've made it into the press and we've gotten their attention. We're getting a response from the people who cancelled our show and who have the power to bring it back. And, I fully believe we Firefly fans can do the same.

My main point is, never give up. If we keep Firefly's name ever-present and show the networks, executives, etc. that we want more... we just might get it. Some fans have successfully won more of their show, some have not. Which categoy we'll fall in... I have no idea. But, I hope it's the former.

As soon as I get a chance, I'll happily write a letter. Thanks for finding the address.

Back to this thread , because this is exactly what we need to be doing in the lead up to the marathon on SciFi Friday July 14th.

There is guerilla marketing to do and letter writing to do.

Look at the actual presence that was felt on Amazon when we bought all the DVD's. Look at all the people who turned out for the screenings and what good they did with their donations.

We're a mighty bunch. We can do the same with our letters to SciFi and our spreading the word to draw new folks in. If the same number of us do this plan... they can't help but notice us.

Remember when you're writing that we want SciFi to know that others besides Flans and Browncoats are writing in. The brown paper idea is excellent, but they want to see regular folks letters too. So write some on plain paper. They know we're out here. They need to know we're growing too. Let them know you appreciate them running the marathon, let them know you're letting others know about it, let them know about folks you know who watch now too. Let them know kindly that we'd love to have more.

Hello folks first time poster and just wanted to add a suggestion for the upcoming Firefly marathon on July 14th. Ask anyone you know (including yourself) to Tivo some of (or all) of the shows...even if those you ask don't like the show just ask them to do it. Each week there is always a ranking of the top "Tivo'd" shows and I think it would make a statement if Firefly made that list in any capacity.

Just a suggestion but every little thing does help.

As for the letter writting...I think this idea should be passed onto all other Firefly fan sites..the more letters the better!

Also...I can kill you with my brain. - River

Welcome home, Smitty1919!

Good ideas! I've added them to my reminder sheet for when the week long push gets underway this Sunday.

We plan on encouraging all FFF.net members to post everywhere they have a membership outside of the fandom too.. gently.. we don't wanna overwhelm them. I think the notification to the other Firefly/Serenity sites will have to be a bit more organized... we don't want to just flood them with posts from all of us.

I'll be coming up with more about that when I post on Sunday.

Oh, and you're new.. you need your very own browncoat!

I'm getting the impression I went slightly off topic... sorry about that. I'm just finding myself more and more upset lately by the cancellation of all the good shows; it's ridiculous!

Anyway, just wanted to second Smitty's ideas - I don't know anyone with TiVo, personally, but anyone who does have it should definitely record the show. Some rating systems even include TiVoed shows, though I forget exactly how that works. No matter what, it's good for Firefly!

*Puts on browncoat*

I agree that we shouldn't flood other sites however I do think that we should start a thread specifically listing the sites that we should target (not just those specifically for firefly and serenity) we should be sure to include any type of Sci-fi site just in case we do reach some fans who still haven't experienced "All that is Firefly"

The way I look at things if all hope was lost on Firefly I couldn't see this marathon even happening. The Sci-fi channel must have knowledge of the following of the show for a marathon to run as opposed to an odd episode here and there...I look at this as a possible test to see if the DVD sales really would translate into a solid weekly fanbase...something all of us on here know would be the case!
