Ok, let's see. Please pardon any paraphrasing or slight misquotes. These are as they come off the top of my head not in any ranked ordrer.

Zoe's description of whate Reaver's will do to you.

Wash's "Who's flying this thing? .. That would be me.

Book telling Mal about the "Special Hell." i fee lthe scence is really made when he sticks his head around the corner and restates... "A special Hell."

Mal to Saffron: "If some one tries to kill you, you try to kill them right back."

Jubal Early: "What? Am I a lion. No, but I have a mighty roar."

Jubal Early to Simon: "You should be shot. Just to know what it feels like. They make physcologists be analyzed.."

Wash describing Zoe: "Have you ever had a 'Warrior Woman.' It's the legs, no the part just above the legs, and the part above that ..."

Wash and Zoe in OIS: W: "That sounds like Science Fiction."
Z: "We live on a spaceship dear."

Mal: ..."Or by my pretty floral bonnet, I'll end you."

Jayne: "The living legend needs some eggs."

Well that's the first ten I could think of.

I can't put them in an order, but, here are my favorites:

1. Defining moment for Shepherd Book: in the aired pilot, when Book is being cleaned up by Inara after his beating by Dobson, Book says, "I've been out of the Abbey two days, I've fallen in with brigands, beaten a lawman senseless, watched the Captain shoot a man I swore to protect. I don't even know if I think he was wrong. I think I'm on the wrong ship." Inara says something like, "Or maybe you're right where you need to be," as she places her hand on his bowed head as if she's giving him benediction. Very poignant and perfectly fits why he stays on board.

2. Defining moment for Wash: he displayed his mettle in War Stories. Zoe just bought him away from Niska, leaving Mal. Wash is telling her he's crazy. Zoe seems to think he means Niska, but Wash continues and talks about how Mal wouldn't break and kept him from breaking. Wash says he wouldn't have made it, then realizes that Niska will kill Mal. Zoe tells him that Niska will draw it out, for days if he can. Wash gets up with purpose and says, "Bastard's not gonna get days." Gives me chills every time.

3. Defining moment for Zoe: the oft-cited line about Reavers in Serenity. "If they take the ship, they'll rape us to death, eat our flesh, and sew our skins into their clothing. And if we're very, very lucky, they'll do it in that order." She delivered that line so well it still scares me, every time. Couldn't bring myself to use it for a signature.

4. Defining moment for River: her exchange with Mal over the intercom in Objects in Space. "I know you have questions." Mal, "That would be why I just asked them." River, "There's no time, Captain, I need you to trust me." Mal, "Am I dreamin'?" River, "We all are." Mal rolls his eyes. River, "Don't make faces." Very serious and very with it.

5. The exchange in The Train Job that got me in front of the TV to watch Firefly. Mal, "Whatever happens, remember that I love you." Zoe, "Sir?" Mal, "Because you're my wife." Zoe, "Right, Sir. Honey."

6. Defining moment for Mal: Ariel. After getting Jayne in the airlock. "You turn on any of my crew, you turn on me."

7. Defining moment for Simon Tam: realizing he can't fight the whole town who wants to burn River near the end of Safe, he wraps his arms around her, looks out at the crowd and says, "Light it."

8. Defining moment for Kaylee Frye: Serenity. "Machines got workin's and they talk to me."

9. Defining moment for Inara: The Train Job. Book says he feels awfully uselss. Inara tells him he could pray they make it back safely. Book says he doesn't think the Captain'd like that very much. Inara says, "Don't tell him. I never do."

10. Defining moment for Jayne: Ariel. When Mal has him in the airlock and has got it out of him that he did turn on the Tam's, this saves him: "Don't tell 'em what I did."

(This is really hard, folks. I'd quote the whole episode of Out of Gas if I could. All about Mal and Serenity. "Freedom is what...Never have to be under the heel of nobody ever again. No matter how long the arm of the Alliance gets, we'll just get a little further." "I wasn't askin', I was tellin'." "Time we stopped focusing on what we ain't got and think about what we do." "You all gonna be here when I wake up?")

"Is there any way I'm gonna get out of this with honor and dignity?"

I liked a Zoe one from Bushwhacked, where Jane goes into some details about the reavers, and Zoe interrupts him: "Jane, you´re scaring the women!"

Also a funny one, from "The Train Job":

Jane: "You know what the chain of command is? - That´s the chain I´ll go get and beat you with until you know who´s in rotten command here!"

Note: Hard to explain without reading.

In the Hitchikker's Guide, the smartest beings on earth are not humans, but mice. In the end, you meet up with the last two mice in existence, since earth was destroyed. Anyway, they were about to take out Arthur's brain to find the Question to the Answer, but Arthur and the rest escape. So the mice make up the question "How many roads must a man walk down?" And that is what I mean.

JAYNESGIRLFRIEND

I've been obsessed with Objects in Space since I got my DVDs so I've grown fair attached to these.

Jubal Early: You know, with the exception of one deadly and unpredictable midget, this girl is the smallest cargo I've ever had to transport, yet by far the most troublesome. Does that seem right to you?

RIVER
It's okay, Early. I'm going with you. Don't belong. Dangerous, like you. Can't be controlled. Can't be trusted. Everyone could just go on without me and not have to worry. People could be what they wanted to be. Could be with the people they wanted. Live simple. No secrets. I'll be fine. I'll be your bounty, Jubal Early. And I'll just fade away.

A couple Simon reaction lines cut out but they aren't necessary to the appreciation of the speech.

So many to choose from, or to even remember! But, since I just got done watching "War Stories", there is one that definitely stands out in my mind as one of the funniest lines in the show.

Zoe: Preacher, don't the bible have some pretty specific things to say about killing?

Book: Quite specific. It is, however, somewhat fuzzier on the subject of kneecaps.

Now that's my kind of preacher!

Hey, my first post, can't keep quiet about writing this good.
Good enough that 13 episodes establish someone as a mythic archetype in my mind.

The epitome of a leader -Mal Reynolds

"Everybody dies alone"

and

"You woulda done the same"
"Well you can already see I haven't, now get the hell off my ship"

Both from Out of Gas

"None of it means a damned thing"

From Objects in Space, although it's not actually spoken, I suppose.

"So you're a bounty hunter?"
"That ain't it at all"
"Then what are you?"
"I'm a bounty hunter"

Ok, these are all good and all, but what about:

"The Train Job" - Well, they tell ya, never hit a man with a closed fist, but it is on occasion hilarious. - Mal

"Our Mrs. Reynolds" - You can't just open the book of my life and jump in the middle. Like woman, I am a mystery. - Mal

"Objects in Space" - She understands. She doesn't comprehend. - River

"Jaynestown" - To Jayne! The box dropping man ape gone wrong thing. - Simon

Back on the topic of the post, I see: one-liners.

"Sir, I think you have a problem with your brain being missing."

"Were there monkeys? Some terrifying space monkeys maybe got loose in the engine room?"

"Anybody ever tries to kill you, you try to kill 'em right back."

"Morbid and creepifyin' I got no problem with, long as she does it quiet-like."

"You paid money for this, Sir? On purpose?"

"I figure every man ever got a statue built of him was one kind of sombitch or another."

"You rely on luck you end up beggin' for Alliance make work, on the drift, towed out to the scrap belt. That's not us. Not ever."

"When you can't run no more you crawl. When you can't do that, you find someone to carry you."

I'm being too serious, aren't I? Sorry.

"If your hand touches metal, I swear by my pretty floral bonnet I will end you."

"Your mouth's talkin'. Might want to look to that."

"Is there any way I'm gonna get out of this with honor and dignity?"

so many quotes, so little time...

Inara: What did I tell you about barging into my shuttle?
Mal: That it was manly and impulsive?
Inara: Yes only the exact phrase I used was "don't".

Mal: What the hell's going on in the engine room? Were there monkeys? Did some terrifying space monkeys get loose?

Book: If you take sexual advantage of her, you're going to burn in a very special level of Hell, a level they reserve for child molesters and people who talk at the theater.

Mal: Appears we got here just in the nick of time! What does that make us?
Zoe: Big damn heroes, sir!
Mal: Ain't we just?

Patron: That girl is a witch!
Mal: Yeah, but she's our witch. *cocks gun* So cut her the hell down.

Mal: If your hand touches metal, I swear by my pretty floral bonnet I will end you.

Wash's dinos: Yes. Yes, this is a fertile land, and we will thrive./
We will rule over all this land, and we will call it... "This Land."/
I think we should call it "your grave!"/
Ah, curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!/

RATTLESNAKESMILE

I think I love this show, since I spent the last three days watching my entire DVD set (including watching eps with and without the commentary tracks. I decided the best thing to do was sign up as a member and make this my first post.

Does this qualify me as a FFF?

Anyways, since the #1 favorite rule seems to have flown out the window around post number 5 or so, here are my votes for the ones already quoted and a new quote for consideration.

Wash: "What could it be, we're all doomed, who's flying this thing?!?! Oh, that would be me."
---
Wash: "Psychic, though? That sounds like something out of science fiction."
Zoe: "Dear, you live on a spaceship."
---
Wash: Yes. Yes, this is a fertile land, and we will thrive./
We will rule over all this land, and we will call it... "This Land."/
I think we should call it "your grave!"/
Ah, curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!/
Ha ha HA! Mine is an evil laugh! Now die!/
Oh, no, God! Oh, dear God in heaven!
---
Sherif: You were truthful back in town, these are tough times. A man can get a job, he might not look too close what that job is. But a man learns all the details of a situation like ours, well, then he has a choice
Mal: I don't believe he does.
---
Mal:"Mercy is the mark of a great man."
(pauses, then stabs Atherton)
"Guess I'm just a good man."
(again)
"Well, I'm alright."
---
Inara (regarding praying for Mal):Don't tell him. I never do.
---

And a new quote for the list:

From the very end of Safe:
Simon: "Captain, why did you come back for us?"
Mal: "You're on my crew."
Simon: "yeah, but you don't even like me. Why d'you come back?"
Mal: "You're on my crew. Why are we still talking about this?"

Cheers,

MADLOVE

I'm also a new fan of the show, but totally obsessed. I bought my mom the DVD set for Christmas, and watched all the eps over and over...
My favorite quotes, that havent been posted yet-

"We're not gonna die, you hear me? And you know why? Because we are so very PRETTY. We are just too pretty for God to let us die."
(Mal, *Serenity*)

"I love my captain."
(Kaylee, *Serenity*)

"I got a share in this buisness! Ten percent of nothin' is- lemme do the math- nothin', plus nothin', carry the-"
(Jayne, *Serenity*)

"But like all creative minds, they must be slapped down."
(Joss, *Serenity* commentary)

Also *Serenity* commentary:
Joss: "Here's the star of the show, here comes Chicken."
Nathan: "*Sweet!*"

The Train Job--

Mal: "Say that to my face."
Drunk Guy: "I said that you're a coward, and a piss pot. Now what are you gonna do about it?"
Mal: "Nothing. I just wanted you to face me so she could get behind you."
Zoe punches the man.
Mal: "Drunks are so cute."

Mal: "I would pull this job for free."
Zoe: "Then can I have your share?"
Mal: "No."
Zoe: "If you die, can I have your share?"
Mal: "Yes."

I can't believe no one mentioned any of these from Shindig:

Mal: "And you're supposed to make me look respectable."
Kaylee: "Yessir, Captain Tight-Pants!"

Mal: "Just help me look for him."
Kaylee: "Is that him?"
Mal: "That's the buffet table."
Kaylee: "Well, how can we be sure...unless we question it?"

"He's an expert swordsman, Mal. You had trouble with the *pillar*."
(Inara, *Shindig*)

Nothing but Jayne cuteness, *Shindig*-

"Dear diary, today I was pompous and my sister was crazy. Today we were kidnapped by hill-folk, never to be seen again. It was the best day ever."

Our Mrs. Reynolds (another best for one-liners)-

Kaylee: "Oh, sweetie, dont feel bad, he makes everyone cry. He's like a monster."
Mal: "I am NOT a monster!"

Jaynestown--

"Everywhere I go, his eyes keep followin' me..."
(Kaylee)

"His brains are in terrible danger!!"

"Just keep walkin', Preacher-man."
(River)

"My food is problematic!"
(River, *The Message*)

Here endeth the rant, I'm just so in love...

I can't believe no one mentioned this one:

"Every planet has its own weird customs... I spent six weeks on a moon where the principal form of recreation was juggling geese... Baby geese. Goslings. They were juggled." --Wash, 'Our Mrs. Reynolds'

And I can't help but laugh at Kaylee's indignance:

"Six gerstlers crammed right under every cooling drive so that you strain your primary artery function and you end up having to recycle secondary exhaust through a bypass system just so's you don't end up pumping it through the main atmofeed and asphyxiating the entire crew. Now that's junk." --Kaylee, 'Bushwacked'

And though it turns out in the end of the episode that this quote doesn't refer to what you'd think, I still like it:

"Real beauty, ain't she? Yes sir, a right smart purchase, this vessel. I'll tell you what. You buy this ship, treat her proper... she'll be with you for the rest of your life." --Salesman, 'Out of Gas'

Mal: "Seemed like the thing to do."

Mal: "Listen, if you've got guests, I can come back later."

Wash: "Were I unwed, I would take you in a manly fashion."
Kaylee: "'Cause I'm pretty?"
Wash: "'Cause you're pretty."

JAYNE'SJOJO

I was watching War Stories tonight. How about:

"I am a large, semi-masculine man..."

ooh, and

"There is obeying going on right under my nose"

Okay. Limit one, I have two I'll post.

"Not so much." This is classic Firefly understatment and gets tossed around by lots of people in different episodes.

Mal in Out of Gas: "Everyone dies alone." I just love this line in context!

Sorry. One more.

"No power in the 'verse can stop me."

It's also a line several people deliver.

In "Heart of Gold" u hear jayne on the radio teaching the girls to shoot:

you guys are pulling instead of squeezing like i told you. Now the next one of you to miss that board is getting a special treat.

i missed what he was saying the first few times i watched it, was cracking up once i did finally hear it.

MAN... favorite quote.. that's a gorram BIG request...(paraphrased as I've been drinking lol)

Mal: How's Business?
Inara: None of yours.

Wash: 'Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!"

Mal: huh!

Inara: As in most cases, the key seems to be giving Jayne a big stick and standing back

Inara: I think she looks adorable.
Mal: Yeah, but I never said it.

Jayne: Hmmm.. let me see.. let me do the math.. Nuthin' plus nuthin'.. divided by nuthin'..

Mal: what's gonna happen when it is enough money..
Jayne: Well.. that's gonna be a very interestin' day..

and from the pre-edited pilot..
Mal: Happy Thoughts, Jayne..

Simon: I never killed anyone before..
Book: I was there, and I'm pretty sure you still haven't

Book's special hell quote.. that one came up in real life today.. to a lady in Safeway.. about someone leaving a cart in the middle of the exit.. lol.. My hubby told her there was a special hell.. for people who talk in theatres.. I wonder if she go it.. ?

and of course, EVERYTHING Wash says in the interview with the Alliance in "Bushwacked"...

Wow.. coming up with these is a never endin' task... lol... they never stop occuring to ya, do they? My hubby and I went back and forth and back and forth.. and I figured it was about time we stopped there :)

-Jayne, "Our Mrs. Reynolds"

TRAGICSATURN

My favourite character is Kaylee. I love the little conversation between Mal and Kaylee at the ball in "Shindig."

Kaylee: Is that him?
Mal: That's the buffet table.
Kaylee: How will we know unless we question it?
Mal: Just don't make yourself sick.

Also, I like this exchange from "Jaynestown," between Wash and Kaylee.

Wash: (talking about Jayne's statue) I think they captured his essence.
Kaylee: It looks kind of angry.
Wash: That's what I meant.
