Hello All,

Anyone else having troubles with the first DVD of Firefly? My brand new copy (yes, I just discovered this show!) doesn't run the menus, but starts directly with the pilot episode and then doesn't allow me to play The Train Job or Bushwhacked. If I try to enter the main menu, I get no image at all. I know it is my DVD player since the DVD works fine on the PC and the DVD is scratch free...

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Welcome home, Raz!
No, sorry can't help you. One of my discs sometimes goes directly to the episode menu of "Jaynestown" but always lets me in to the main menu. Wish there was a cheaper answer, but it looks like it's time for a new player!

I had the problem with my dvd player, too. How old is your player?
I bought a new one and now all the features work fine. I think some of the older ones just can't read all of the signals or something.

It's about a year old, but sadly it a SONY 5.1 home theater system ($$$), so I won't be too quick to replace it. I don't have regular problems, but only occasionally on certain DVDs, for example one of the Dark Angel DVDs also has some playback problems. However I was able to successfully backup the 1st Firefly DVD and it played fine, so perhaps it is a combo of the player and DVD.

Thanks for the welcome, but I am really saddened to have to add such an amazing show like Firefly to my list of favorite TV shows that were killed with no mercy. At least Lost is doing well...

Millennium
Dark Angel
Carnivale (HBO)
Star Trek Enterprise
Firefly

The first set I bought, Disk 1 froze about 23 minutes into the first episode and stayed frozen unless I fast-forwarded it a few minutes. I asked Amazon to send me a replacement. On that set, Disk 1 froze momentarily about 23 minutes into the first episode, but then continued on its own. I wrote Amazon to find out whether there was any point in trying to get it replaced, and they said (upon investigation) that the problem seemed to be "wider spread than thought".

Anyway, that's to say that it may be worthwhile for you to return your defective disk to get a less-defective one, but don't be surprised if it's not perfect either.

Indigo S.
