I know a few in Austin, lol. Depends on the age range you're looking for, I suppose. We're a rare breed, though. I can count off all the single techy gamer geek girls I know on both my hands, both here in CA and in Texas, and I work in an industry where that's really the only sort of woman who survives long.

Seriously, what age range you lookin for?

struggle with the whole 'asking women out' thing, although never figured out why (beyond admitting that i'm slightly caustic, a little bit bitter about previous relationships [which i really should be over by now] and could stand to be a little less sarcastic, so yeah, i've no idea ) because i do believe myself to be a pretty attractive guy, and am fairly confident in that respect. so i put it down to being one of life's unsolved mysteries and struggle on regardless ^^

Gotta say, I do feel uncomfortable asking guys out: I have a really big fear of rejection.
Then again, I have had really bad experiences boy wise, so now, I'm just sitting back, having fun and concentrating on other things!
My school is definately not stereotyped, well, not my year, anyways. Nothing is guaged by popularity, and there is a divide, but it isn't very big

Geeks and Gamers rock!

Well, I live in Dallas, but I think Austin is a couple hours away. As for age range, well, I don't know, 21-30 seems okay. I'm 26, but I don't mind dating someone older than me.

Curious about that myself. Why don't more ladies ask guys out more? Don't get me wrong, I like to chase a little. But I want to be chased damnit!
I've had several "propositions" in the last two months, but nothing I could take seriously. The latest one is a friend of my "dumb" sister. Just broke up with her man, who I can call a friend. Has four kids and no job. She actually doesn't believe in working. Maybe I just live in the wrong town.
Need to find a town filled with smart, fun loving, kinda geeky, physically active women.
Looking for one.
Just one.
Is that too much to ask for?

NV-Huh you do need a new town darlin!!! so where's that pic?? Just kidding:) well sort of
I personally have asked out my fair share of guys...including my husband. I had really liked him in college, but he seemed not as interested. After he graduated he just happened to come in to the costume store I worked at. Went straight up told him I'd moved gave him my new phone number and asked him what he was doing that night. Worked great!!!

I have to say if you're too shy to directly ask the guy out...offer your phone number. That tells him you're interested without being too pushy:)I personally have no problem with pushy, but hey go where you're comfy:)

EDIT- and NV you know full well were I not married...I'd have already made the plane ticket reservations!

Well, obviously, it's important to have a good self-view. If you do not feel you "look good", then in your own eyes you are not. It helps to have people give compliments to build up self-ego, but you yourself have to think yourself attractive. We are just here to help with the compliment part...if you hear it enough, it will become truth! Well, that's the goal, anyway

Hey, BSC, welcome (finally!).

I am also somewhat guilty of being the shy type...well, until I got into college, that is. Can't really be shy and be in Drama, you know? I am also a bit of a wise-crack, and humor was often used as my "in"...if they weren't amused, I went on my merry way. I have dated cheerleaders to bookworms, and enjoyed the time I spent with each one. Not all were classic beauties, but all were beautiful to me. I just always felt lucky that they had chosen to date me rather than anyone else.

Another thing, I never make assumptions regarding anyone until I have spent time talking with them. Some of the best friends I ever had were the ones everyone else called weird, silent, or the killer-in-waiting types.

Penguin, thank you for the sign!

okay, rapid change of subject, and not sure to what extent it constitutes an imponderable, but would be interesting to see what people think. Thunderstorms:

now, i love 'em, and most of the people i know who share this love are male. just realised i'm gonna have to walk from here to work in pouring rain and thunder'n'lightning and i could barely stop myself grinning.

so, how does anyone else feel about 'em?

Yeah, Austin is about a three, three and a half hour drive south, depending on where in Dallas you live. Not too bad if you're going for an event or whatever, but maybe a bit too far a distance for a relationship.

If you're at all into such things, you should definitely check out the Scarborough Renaissance Festival next spring. http://www.scarboroughrenfest.com/ I've been out of Texas for a couple of years now, and I *still* miss that faire. Sigh.

Lol, SBDB, that's what my family calls "being zappy". We were all in "talented and gifted" type programs growing up, but we can have the strangest dumb blonde moments (despite the fact that three of the six of us are naturally blonde). My youngest sister, for example, got 112% in her chem class this past semester, and straight As in everything else, and yet can still sometimes bust out with things like "Cows don't give off mayonnaise!" We just look at her and go "Zappy!"

Oh, and thunderstorms: Love em! If it's a warm, humid thunderstorm, I love being out in it. If it's a cold and windy thunderstorm, I love being snuggled up inside, watching and listening to it.

SBD- Hey I can tell you what I found:) My husband is really smart, funny, sarcastic, and silly. He's tall with broad shoulders and big muscular arms. He's strong enough to go toe to toe with me in an arguement and not let me walk on him, but nice enough to give me my way sometimes too. HE's thoughtful at odd moments ( like randomly bringing flowers home or buying me a dvd I wanted) and wise enough to ask what I want and mean it. He's good with managing money, but not stingy about spending it.he loves animals almost as much as I do and is great with little kids. He never needs me to dress a certain way and thinks I'm darling even in sweats. He doesn't have a lot of my same interests, but he has no problem with me doing my own thing.
Now not that he's perfect or anything, or that we don't fight or have problems, but he's pretty dang great far as I'm concerned.

EDIT- I love thunderstorms...they have a very "stimulating" effect on me.

Techy geek gamer girl!

But seriously, a nice girl (damn, I'm so verbose and descriptive). Someone who I can talk with, who shares similar interests with me, and someone independent. I tend not to date republicans because of ideological differences - and in TX, well that's kind of hard to find.

Lol Ged, get thee to Austin! It's Texas's Berkeley! The one blue point on a completely red map. It's a great little town, with a happening bar & nightclub district known as 6th Street (because it *actually* only takes up the one street, for a few blocks -- I know, shocking, once you've lived in LA ;) ). And while I'm pushing you into fun Texas events, if you're interested in games and tech and such, you might want to check out this one: http://www.gameconference.com/

Damn work...it's distracting me today.

I love thunderstorms but there just haven't been many in CA for the last few years. We'll get maybe 10 thunderclaps all winter long. That makes me sad. Thunder just sooooo cool. Lightning is even cooler and rarer. I might need to travel some.

FMF: I sit here thinking I am so happy that you are out of that awful relationship. OMG, what an asshat. He deserves an asshat medal. Bronze in the very least. Possibly gold.

Again with the work distraction. I may not get to imponder with y'all until Monday. If not...have fantastic weekends!

Edited: Dayve: tractors are sexy, dontcha know?

What am I looking for:

28-45ish (would have to be a young 45), responsible, funny, caring, kind, honest, independent man who knows how to take care of himself and wants a partner for good times and bad. Oh, and he must be a non-smoker. Yep, that's about does it.

What's this about Austin? It's a pretty decent city I must admit. I really like the general laid back attitude of everyone around. The only time I see people showing any sort of dissaproval for another person is when they're wearing OU gear or if they're extremly pro-Bush. Even then it takes a lot to get people worked up. It's a generally accepting place. Granted I don't much care for the nightlife. Just not my thing. Though I love the drafthouse. Plus when Nathan and Ron showed up for the Serenity pre-screening I was in heaven. I don't think I'll ever forget that night. Hooray Austin!

All of my friends in Dallas tell me that I need to go to Austin and that I would love it. However, my company's corporate office is here in Dallas so, Austin is somewhat of a trek.

Oh I love Austin. Great little town, one of the few places in Texas where I feel like you can be casually Democrat and not have to worry about getting into a fist fight in the grocery store, lol. Some of the liberal politics in Austin are a little over the top for my taste, but not enough to make me sour on Austin in general. (And that's all I'll say on politics, I promise.) I love, love, LOVE the Drafthouse, I want one out here sooooo bad. I saw Return of the King there opening night, in costume, and couldn't have asked for a better crowd. Unfortunately I moved back to CA before Serenity started making the rounds.

If I have any complaints about Austin, it's that it's too small and doesn't have a big city nearby. I've gotten used to living within proximity of a large city (LA and San Fran mostly), so living in Austin was a little odd for me sometimes. Can't really "go into the city" to catch a show or go to a museum or anything.

But back to imponderables... We were discussing considering ourselves pretty earlier, and I think no matter how much you like your body, there's always something you'd like to change. So if you could change one thing about your physical appearance, what would it be?

For me, I'd get rid of the dark circles under my eyes. They're genetic, I've had them my whole life, and they bug the hell out of me.

Oh man...I am so jealous right now. Tell him Rugbug thinks he's the bomb-diggety. Or maybe don't...because then you'd look a bit crazy. (Sidenote: having met in real life some people from another board I frequent, it's really strange introducing yourself as "Rugbug". I read it and think it's cute...plus it has some meaning, but speaking it is just...odd. )

Parts of me to change: I would trade in my legs in a nanosecond. I HATE them. Got the family ones, unfortunately. They work just fine for my bro b/c boys are allowed to have big strong legs. Not so much for girls. In one of my college classes we had to do some statistical analysis of muscle loads and strength. We collected the data from our classmates, which was interesting in and of itself. When they measured me, they had to move from the women's charts to the men's.

Now that's how you make penguins even cuter than they already are.

Oh baby, watch who you're showing that tractor too, it gets crazy in this thread sometimes...

I spent a summer in northern Dallas, which had fabulous lightening storms but the political/social situation nearly killed me. Visited Austin a few times - what a great place!!

CK - I hear you about the dark circles. I've got them too! Dark circles and bad teeth, blah!

If we're getting into personal ads, anyone wanna see my match.com page? Actually, I don't think you can without signing up, or I would show you! It's so cheesy.
