PR, oddly enough, my favorite pistol is a .380ACP. Not too much stopping power, but the recoil is low enough to allow you to drive nails. And rifles...yes, I love rifles. Not so much the more modern ones with all the lights, etc. I like historical rifles.

Hmm. We seem to have gotten off the Imponderable trail a bit...

Umm. It's still too early for me to form one...anyone else?

I should have added that we all wore the correct safety gear. Nobody put a blade up without a helmet check, etc. We had a bloke at college who got thrown out of the club there - his nickname was 'Flymo' - which is a type of rotary mower, so you can get the idea of his fighting technique. I have actually coached beginners, and I've seen the welts idiocy can leave even through a padded jacket.

It's all great fun, until somebody loses an eye...

Yeah, good therapists will tell someone if they're just being a drama queen, but bad ones seem to actually encourage it. Really, there have been people who've said "My therapist said I should let this kind of thing out. They support me. Nothing is my fault."
That made me sick.
And IMO, a good friend will act the same way. I've had friends who didn't agree, and wanted to be told nothing was their fault. Sometimes they worked through that, sometimes they stopped talking to me. Oh well.

Only kind I've shot. My grandpa takes very good care of his guns.

I actually saw some statistics on it awhile ago; women are responsible for more fender-benders and men are responsible for more accidents where there was serious injury/death/totalled car. That would drive up their rates a bit, ya?

SpaceAnJL, I apologize. I should have known you wore safety equipment. You mentioned the college groups, and my immediate thoughts were of unarmored amateurs swinging wildly about. "Flymo"...yep, that's funny! (And a bit scary, too)

Funny story about losing an eye...I didn't actually lose one, but came close. This one time, at Ren Faire (yes, I was channeling Mrs. Hannigan), I was hit in the face with an axe during a performance. It was a huge battle axe we had had made by a metal shop for our production; heavy but dull. My opponent messed up his choreography, reversed a swing, and caught me across the right side of my face, from jaw to eyebrow, with the edge of the axe. Knocked me down, cut me up a bit, and left my eye all nice and red for a week or so. It was after that fight that I decided safety should become a major concern when fighting. There were no other serious injuries from then until I quit doing Ren Faires. So, I hope that explains my obsession with safety?

As for friendly advice, I do my best. I listen to people, but then I usually tell them something they don't want to hear and they'll ignore my advice and try the next friend. I'm kinda use to it.

Hey, most men don't like to do things small. Why have a fender-bender when you can really mess things up?

Yes, male insurance is higher until they reach a certain age. It is assumed we mature then, and will be less likely to cause problems on the road. Women, on the other hand, are usually consistent in their driving habits. I have no problem with female drivers at all. I do, like PR, have issues of not being in control in an automobile, though. Something I am working on, though.

I find that if I give advice, it tends to be practical. Apparently, this is supposed to be a more 'masculine' trait. Weirdly enough, although I have a real Wednesday Addams/scary cat stare going on, I also seem to be the kind of person people bring their problems to.

Did anyone else spend their teens being told to be more like they 'should' be? I'm not gender dysmorphic or anything, but I was never a 'girly' girl. More into sci-fi

and the like. I'm the one in our house who owns the kickass dvds and the really loud rock.

Some people had their opinions of my attitude/behavior, but my parents didn't mind that I wasn't the girliest of girls. My dad's mind did seem to catch a bit on the whole "liking girls" thing, but he got over that. I rebelled against being too girly because all the girls I couldn't stand were all "pink is great and skirts are great and I'm going to spend an hour on my hair tee hee." Gag me. Now I do like skirts, but still don't wear makeup often, nor do I like pink anymore. I have always loved sci-fi and action movies. Put me in front of a horror movie, though, and I go total girl. I can throw and bat decently, I can kick the crap out of a heavy bag, and I can knock folk out in a low-cut top. I like bing a girl, so obviously I don't have gender dysphoria either, but I don't think I should be kept away from weapons

Morning all...just woke up and holy smack!!! OK so I really shouldn't sleep in and this is yet another reason why:)

PR- just google singles functions or do it on city search. I don't know about where you are, but here there are tons of social activities ( not involving religion or bars) and many of them are designated singles only...

Tristan_ such a cute little safty monster you are:) Live steel isn't that bad ( been afew years mind, but I can still manage) I do have some scars on arms and hands from it, bit with facemask and full gear it's not all that bad:)

Emma- oh just post it before Tristan and PR's imagination go through the roof and they looose their jobs from lack of attention:)

Cars- I can and have driven a stick and it's fun. That said, my car now is an automatic ( Inferno Red Jeep Liberty) My brother in law owns a dealership so our whole family is all Jeep/Chrysler all the time... it's so funny to pull up at my parents house during a big get together and it looks like a Jeep car lot:)

ooh that's a good idea kenobius. Theater would help you meet tons of people..many of whom have access to eligible ladies... and gentlemen and theater people are a lot less biased toward those who aren't middle of the road!

That goes for all our shy guys...you don't have to be the actor to volunteer or join local theater. People who can make/build props, work lights or sound, help with costumes, or even just crew ( move sets/props on and off stage) are always welcome and I doubt you'd find nicer or more accepting people anywhere...just a thought

I've been doing theater now for a couple of years and I can say that it's like one big support group. We all help each other out. The whole show kinda takes a backseat to all the friendships and going-ons behind the stage. And speaking from experience, we need more young adult ladies

As for your question msg, I really don't have an answer. I guess females makes our innards go all fuzzy and wobbly, making it very difficult to think properly. I know I am guiltily as charged. I could learn a billion lines and do the most embarrassing things on stage, but I can't talk to a girl without it turning sour real fast.
