My most embarrassing theater moment..........hmmmmm........Kiss Me Kate - Principal Dancer and space filler (understudy to Kate) - our Director was the daughter of Don Ameche and she had invited him to the dress rehearsal and the opening night. He could only make opening night so she video'd dress. Anyway, one of the nice ladies in the cast had a big thermos of Tequilla Sunrise (and I MEAN BIG) and I weighed about 96 pounds (you start to get the picture) anyway, we were so drunk I could not remember anything and being the lovely person I am, I had not paid attention to my cues and went out when Sally my friend went out - she was drunk as well and at a crucial point between Kate and Petruchio (when they should be alone) out walk 3 "village women". We had to stay on the stage the entire scene. And it is on tape - my listing back and forth and looking around puzzled.

Yay! So many times I post, and I seem to kill the thread when I do. SpaceAnJL the thread-killer - like walking into a room, and finding the party has moved into the other room.

Remember those kind of parties? It wasn't until recently that I got the confidence to enjoy going out.

Oh, embarrassing moment on that theme...not mine. But I was in a bar (my little brother's bar, actually) in a nice little lowcut leather top - doing my Evil Willow thing, really - when this guy starts talking to my cleavage. I'm sober; he's my old form teacher from school. (We were his first post - bless.) So I let him get a good slobber on, then I say "Hello, sir, how are you enjoying my brother's cocktails?"

Imagine the expression.

Unfortunately, he was still pissed enough to snog me goodbye later, when I wasn't expecting it. Ick.

Something on the food front, mayhap?

I work in a deli, and we get a lot of food weirdos in here. The 'I can't eat *** because ***' types - not genuine food intolerances, just being wealthy enough to piss about.

So - food behaviours. Vanity or ethics? I find that more women tend to have some kind of diet thing going on, and frequently, I think it's neurotic attention seeking. (I have a friend who is coelic, so I don't mean the genuine article) Men on the whole will eat whatever can't get away from them quickly enough.

I am sometimes guilty of the "eat what can't escape", but as I aged, my innards began telling me what I could and could not eat. As far as "can't eat ***** because", I only have one thing I can't eat, and that's imitation crab meat. Just makes me violently ill. Now, there are things I prefer not to eat because I don't like the taste, but there is no food that's "below" me. Yeah, those types do bother me.

I love to eat...it's one of my favorite things and I think there is nothing more pitiful than a woman inflicting her diet on others. AS I was on one for a years, I was very careful not to comment on it and when we were out or with friends I never made a deal of what I was or wasn't eating... I also just sub out calories by eating minimal calories for breakfast and lunch when I know I am going out to dinner so I can order something decent and enjoy it...So yes I agree with you that a lot of women "diet" to draw attention to themselves and get a lot of comments of the " you are so skinny why are you dieting" variety. OK this post is quite long and rant like ( sorry diets are a big sore spot for me those were 2 very sucky years)

Well, I can truly not stand cilantro, and I've been trying not to eat too much sugar and starch, because I put on a lot of weight when I do, and I don't want to turn into some of my relatives who have weight problems and/or diabetes. Other than that, I'm good! I'll eat whatever. Sometimes that avoiding starch thing leads to weird-sounding orders and people will look at me funny, but other than that I try not to draw attention to it.
Ex of Doom was the pickiest eater. I could never get that boy to try anything new! And when eating, it was always the simplest stuff; basic hamburger with pickles, pizza without too many toppings, pork chops with very little seasoning. Really that was it, except for snacks; which also tended toward bland. I was always like "Bring it on! How many sauces and toppings can I fit on this thing?" Don't get the bland and basic thing. I don't like something to be too spicy but that doesn't mean I don't like some flavor!

Someone once tried to show me how to calculate calories. I just stared at them. I eat things on the criteria of taste alone. The one time that I was forced to endure four weeks of watching what I ate (certain things conflicted with a temporary medication I was taking) I was NASTY. No spices, no tea or coffee, no chocolate, no nuts = SpaceAnJL with no friends.

We have one customer who comes in and she clearly has an uncomfortable relationship with food. Everything has to be cut a certain way, no fat on the meat, no rind on the cheese, is that rye bread totally wheat free and stoneground, only the green olives, is there any garlic in the oil? Total attention required for five minutes or more for a couple of pounds spent.

Hitting people is a terrible way to solve a conflict. Though it is sometimes downright hilarious. Hitting people smaller and weaker than you is bullying, ergo the male/female thing. Try that one.

Sorry my posts seem a bit off/incoherent still desperately trying to wake up. You'd think after getting up, making hubby's breakfast, packing his lunch, ironing his shirt and taking out the garbage that I'd be awake enough, but just made him pissed 'cause I am super cranky of a morning and he was asking me dippy stuff and I got snotty... I just wish he'd figure out that no one can talk to me in the morning without making me nasty...or conversely that mornings didn't make me so crank/hostile and all manner of mean. My students figured this out pretty quickly, yet after 10 years he still keeps trying to converse with me in the morning...eternal optimism is bad sometimes) ok this post is rambling nonsense...IGNORE ME!

EDIT- as for the hitting thing I missed while I rambled...my thought is if you can't take it don't dish it out. There is nothing more irritating than watching a girl hit a boy knowing he won't hit back. I don't approve of hitting anyone in anger or as a way to force them to be or do something, but I think sparring between boys and girls is fine and I will say my guy friends and I have certainly sparred and they got past the don't hit a girl thing right quick after a blow to the kidney:) ( they were fine it was a controlled hit and all)

I tend to get a might picky around veggies. Yeah, I know, I'm still 8-years old and have to fight with eating them. But I am a very social eater and there is very little I won't try at least once. I don't love to eat, rather I love to go out with friends and eat. Pretty slow paced when it comes to dinning, like the French or something.

But yes, green stuff isn't my bag. I just now got over my fear of lettuce. Very few veggies that I can eat. But, like PR, the only thing that has helped on those fronts are the different ways to prepare them. I love spices and herbs and marinades and all kinds of other taste enriching items.

Oh, but fruit I love. For some reason I can eat stuff from a tree but not from the ground. Funny story about that, I never eaten (et) a raw strawberry before until Firefly, and that's cause someone said it would be funny.

Dayve, you are the only other person I've run across who doesn't like it. It's not a staple up here, but in certain resaurants it's on everything and I get such odd looks when I ask if it can be made without it.
It's not just overwhelming, I truly hate the taste. I can't even describe what it tastes like to me; waxy, ashy, brussel sprouts is about the closest I can come. And that nasty taste/aftertaste just stays in my mouth. GAH!
Yeah, most people I know love it. Gick. I've toyed with the idea of claiming to be allergic, but I always forget. I just say I don't like it.
I do, however, love red meat. Tuna and tomatoes are also very good

Ooooh, and I love fruit. Some veggies, mostly the non-greens. Fruit, though... Mmmmmmm.

Hitting, yeah, sorry, got sidetracked. I think a light slap on the arm in jest is okay, but actually belting someone is not okay. Striking in anger is not going to solve anything. It's not okay for a woman to hit a man any more than it is okay for a man to hit a woman (for all that they... might... do slightly less damage.)

Regarding hitting: If you're in an honest-to-goodness fight and the other person, male or female, intends to do you bodily harm, then I say by all means fight back. I am somewhat picky, and have been since I was little. For me, anything with onions or mayonaise gets thrown out the window. There are also some foods I have to go easy on, because I have gastric reflux. Which unfortunately means slacking off on lemonade and italian, which I love.

EDIT: Have you guys met people that like really weird food combinations, like ketchup and mayonaise or barbecue sauce and honey mustard? That always has grossed me out.

SpaceAnJL- ok cilantro is nothing like coriander sweety. Cilantro is a flat leaf green herb that looks a lot like parsley, but has a spicy/bitter taste and is used in a lot of mexican and fusion cuisine...does that help:)

I've never hit anyone. But I did have occasion to have to deal with a large man who wished to make my acquaintance. Having removed his arm politely a few times, with a quiet and girlish murmur, I got a little narked at his persistance. So I got him in a wrist and elbow lock, which enabled me to bring his face down to my eye level. "Go away or I will hurt you." made the point. Didn't need to hit him. All in the leverage. And the eye contact.

MSG Brits don't have the subtleties you guys do, I guess. Coriander is the translation we got for cilantro over here. And it fits the description.

that's so odd SpaceAnJL- coriander is a round seed that can be ground and is frequently used in indian cuisine kind of spicey with mildly smokey flavor I have ground it myself for use in Masala so hmmm I wonder why cilantro is coriander for you? When I've watched Jaime Oliver he uses the seed form...hmm wonder if it's the same plant and just differs in use of leaves vs seeds...OK just checked they are different but coriander leaves look a lot like cilantro so that must be what you are seeing...they must use the leaves in indian cooking too:) AH mystery solved:) Cilantro is a sharper cleaner taste than Coriander co that may be why people would like Coriander, but not cilantro:)

As to the hitting. Well, I hit a woman on a regular basis. With weapons, no less. And not only does she enjoy it, she loves me. Ok, fun's over...I am sure all of you know about the fighting that happens at our house about once a week...just thought it would be a bit funny to say all that...
In seriousness, though, I don't think it's ok for anyone to hit anyone unless life, limb, or property are threatened and all other avenues have been explored and abandoned. This may sound odd coming from me, but violence should be a last resort. I do agree with those that posted they dislike seeing someone hit someone else and they know the strikee won't respond. Grr.

MsG That's the deal - I make my own curries from scratch, so I have coriander (whole seed and ground), plus fresh leaves when I need them.

I have so many odd cookbooks, I had to source some American cups for cooking. But how does a stick of butter translate?

(I grew up with pounds and ounces. Grammes confuse me. Mind you, so do lots of things.)

Mornings - bleh! The man knows to bring me a cup of tea if he wants anything resembling conversation. Otherwise I lie there like beached wreckage - I can even sleep through the cat doing his 'tuna-deprived' howl.

PR and CK - I totally hadn't thought of it as 'wanting an equal', but you're so right! I'm too old and busy to wait for a shy guy to come out of his little shell, I want someone who's figured himself out to some extent. Mid 30s, it's time! Maybe that makes me evil and I'll be single forever...

OK, must keep up with new topics. I eat everything, and I prefer things that easy and fast to prepare (chips and salsa) or things that other people cook (restaurants) because I don't like waiting when I'm hungry. I have a pretty crazy high metabolism.

Lord and Lady but I hope having high standards doesn't mean I'm forever single! Yeah, I want the same thing.
Seriously, I'm writing one. It's not very long; I'm not all that complicated, but apparently stil hard to figure out. I have a section on what not to argue with me about, what to do if I worry and/or freak out, what it means to be bi, and how to effectively make love to me. I'm still working on it a little, but I think I've got a lot of it. I want my bestest friend to beta-read (parts) of it, just to make sure I'm not missing anything.
Another of my friends said it was a good idea, but doesn't think anyone can actually be self-aware enough to write one. This is because she isn't herself. Poor girl.
I'm also impatient when I'm hungry.
