"Yes, it is too bad that we were captured by the fine crew of Serenity. If not for that, we would have engaged in many illegal exploits and continue to defy the Alliance."

(I'll handle the map backstory.)

(Alright, John, as you probably know, 13 is a robot. The man who created him is a funny Gepetto type named Wesley Lu Greham. Wesley was 'coerced' by Blue Sun to create 13 for the sole purpose of kidnapping River, once he returned to Serenity. That did happen, and was the cause of one of 13's two (or was it three?) deaths. Then, a letter from Mr. Greham was delivered, containing a map, with a shiny little poem on it, which I'll have to search for later.)

(Anyway, the map was of Osiris, and Blue Sun HQ. And then something happened, and we went on a different adventure.)

Ertia kisses Pain, losing herself in the feel of his body against hers. She knows they have things to do, but at that moment it doesn't matter. At that moment all she wants is...

"Ertia, You might want to come up to the Bridge and see this." Wash's voice comes over the com.

She sighs and hits the com button, "Is it life or death?"

"You could say that." But the pilots voice is laced with humor. "Just get up here!"

She kisses Pain again, "Be right back, babes."

Sprinting onto the bridge, she finds Wash leaning over watching the cortex screen.

"Heya, Wash. The shuttle-pod blew? Right on schedule?"

Wash nodded, "Looks like. It's all over the Fed-Wave. They've already got results back on the debris."

He spun in his chair and grinned, "I give it just a minute or so before the Feds are announcing they caught the Infamous Blue Kitten and her Cohort Criminal 13, and reporting your ignomious deaths."

Ertia stares at the blond pilot in shock. "How'd you know that? They don't even put that on my warrants!"

Wash shrugs, "Couple years back we were doing a job near Philas Moon. Hacker name of Blue Kitten was workin' the job on the inside. Never seen anything like that hack job. Not until you came onboard. You know, you always answered a voice-wave with "Heya, Wash."

Ertia just stares. "Totally forgot that was you!"

"Hey look!" Wash pulls up the Cortex Feed.

OoC: OK, here goes.....

It waited. A huge, hulking black metal mass, hiding behind an enormous stationary asteroid. Waiting, like a spider at the fringe of its web, waiting for a fly. But this web is almost twenty kilometers across.

Seven different spinning asteroids anchor this "web", each rock creating different gravitational fields, and three of them generating enormous electro-magnetic pulses, dangerous to ships passing between them, especially ships without sophisticated monitoring equipment. A few of those ships are now drifting just outside the web, decimated by the spider.

The Alliance had not yet come to this section of space, and the shipping lanes did not indicate any hazards.

But the spider was patient. It was in no danger of being detected, the closest planet being Three Hills, over a day's journey away. And it was always at the ready, with weapons extended, from small lasers to big cannons, able to pick apart any ship or crew. The captain had modified his ship to the point where it was just as well-armed as almost any Alliance boat.

The glowing red exhaust ports only added to the menacing look. But, they also give away its position. For, despite the spider's best hiding tricks, a fly had come looking for it.

"That's the go se pirate ship that I've been searching for, the ship that took away my Lizbeth. Sybil, honey, we don't have to go any further, we wouldn't stand a chance against it." Sybil says, "J.R., dear, we haven't come this far just to turn and run. That pirate and my father's company also have some bad blood between them, plus I want to help you heal those old wounds you've been carrying for so long." J.R.'s eyes start to tear up. "Thank you, Sybil."

Sybil says, with a touch of glee in her voice, "Mac, Laci, power up, we're going to be doing the same thing we did to the Alliance cruiser. Try to take out any sensor arrays that are radiating any kind of signal. We have only four HARM missiles which we can use up close. J.R., activate the HARM's please, and power up our Gatling gun." J.R's console's light up, with "WEAPONS READY" lights blinking on and off.

Sybil says, "In ten seconds, lasers fire at will. J.R., HARM's at the two forward and two aft main sensors NOW!" With the coordinates fed to the computers in each missile, all four drop from the weapons bay toward the pirate. "Birds are away," J.R. says.

At the exact moment the four explosions are seen on The Black, thin beams of light shoot from the mystery ship, and smaller secondary explosions erupt from the starboard side.

Sybil says, "Now, cease-fire, we have not been detected. Going to the port side, where her fighter bay doors are located." Just as the mystery ship clears The Black, the weapons from the pirate ship explode in unison, firing wildly at the unseen attacker, but firing from the starboard side.

Now on the port side, the mystery ship has situated itself between the asteroid and The Black. J.R. says, "We're down to eighty percent mag load on the Gatling Sybil." "Thank you, dear. Bay doors are still closed, but not for long," Sybil says. "Target the doors as they open, and fire on the first fighter that comes thru. She's got only two fighters, but we don't want to worry about those two also, do we?"

Before the doors open, the red exhaust ports start to glow brighter. J.R. says, "She's trying to make a run for it. Now the doors are opening!" The large bay doors have cracked open, with a smaller fighter hovering just inside, itching to get out into the fray. Sybil says, "There's your target. Gunners, target any fuel lines you see on The Black."

The lasers have started to cut fuel lines, pipes, anything that would slow down the escape of the pirate ship. Tho The Black was armed to the teeth, she was not built for speed. She starts lumbering away, then the bay doors open wider. The Gatling gun does it's job, better than expected. The 20mm shells tear thru the smaller ship, then, unexpectedly, start to raze the other fighter just behind and below the first. The two fighters, weapons and missiles always loaded, suddenly explode inside The Black.

"YES!!" cries out J.R. "Got you, you sons-a-bitches, I GOT YOU!!" But, his excitement is short-lived. The double kill has caused massive explosions inside the fighter bay, what with all the ammunition and fuel lying about. And then, the main magazine, just underneath the bay, which is just underneath the bridge, erupts.

"Sybil, pull up, she gonna ex...", J.R. doesn't finish his sentence. A massive fireball and shock wave tear thru space, throwing the mystery ship up and over the nearby asteroid.

The Black has been swallowed by her own explosion, chunks of metal screaming to the asteroid below and into space, flying past the mystery ship, which is almost crumpled like a tin can.

On board the mystery ship, sparks fly from every conduit and control panel, and she loses power, unable to control her flight. The two laser cannons have been torn off their turrents. Inside, all is black, except for the small fires burning.

The crew of four is unconscious, and one of the gunners, Laci, is mortally wounded, a large metal beam crushing her chest.

J.R. regains consciousness and unstraps himself, looks to Sybil, who has no obvious signs of trama. J.R. is not so lucky, bleeding from a large cut on the side of his head. He trys to activate the power for life support and communications, but neither works, at first. The communication array has been damaged, with very limited functional ability. He locates a half-charged power cell, tho it will work with the comm equipment, it is not strong enough for life support.

"We're gonna be mighty cold in here in a couple of hours," he says thru the blood dripping down over his mouth. He passes out again, but not before connecting the cell to the comm unit. When he comes to, he remembers where they are, and of the last friendly ship he saw.

He reaches for the comm mike. "Serenity...... Wash .... Mal, come in. Serenity ..... mayday."
