There are covers I have heard that suck, and then there are those that transcend the original. A case in point is Disturbed's version of Land of Confusion. I liked the original, but love this one. I can't think of any more really good ones at the moment (very busy today, brain stuck on business)...

i've got boxes of old cameras - brownie hawk eyes, old mat cameras - even an odd 3D one - plus various film equipment, b&w darkroom stuff - and lots of things that should be junked - and i'm not a pack-rat, just likes the old stuff - also i have a few comics that i've held on to - like an R.Crumb ZAP - #1, some Fabulous Furry Freak Brothers.... old stuff you can't find anymore....

usually, i just try to collect my thoughts.... (hence the fortress of solitute...)

What else ya got RUGBUG. I'm such a fool for music. Can't help it. Like to play a wide range of things, especially when my nephew is in the truck. NVG, I also hate the French. Which is ok with the Quebecois inside me...they hate everyone. Trust me, it's not worth getting involved with a French woman...they will suck your soul dry and leave you an empty, rotting husk. Then, it takes the love of a good woman to make you live again. Um...where was I going with this...oh, yes, the French. I like the wine, some of the foodstuffs, but the people, culture, and ideals...naw, they can keep 'em.

That can't be true. Another good thing: We kicked your asses and gained independence. Please, take no offense to this. Look how America turned out. Self indulgent, greedy, and uncaring of the poor and weak around them. I have to be held guilty for being just that. I threw money at problems and hoped they'd get better. My hands have been dirtied and my own self righteousness has condoned those things. Bad ia bad. No matter how good the cause. I know so many Americans who justify things on account they are free to do so.
And one more thing, New York. It is not the center of the Gorram 'verse. Peek your heads out of the sand New York. There are things you could never even dream of in this world. I have kids coming from reservations deep in the Nevada desert who are less ignorant than alot on New Yorkers.

Hey Half french here:) Actually I agree with you french women are manipulative and evil..I LOVE THAT I AM WATCHING FIREFLY ON SCI FI RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!
Anyway, womens clothes...I don't really dress for anyone but me. I don't actually care what anyone thinks of my outfit. I do have to be mega careful of what I wear at school since I am very busty and it can create some problems with my mostly male teenaged students...but generally I just wear whatever I want to be comfy and happy ( usually flippy skirt, tightish shirt, strappy sandals or jeans, same kind of shirt, and boots)
I don't usually ask my husband's opinion, but I don't mind if he warns me of something that's odd or wrong about the outfit:)
NV- you are in fine form this morning and umm darlin we've seen you I side with Tristan I'm pretty sure you could take us all and I'm suprisingly tough:)

RugBug, I can only partially agree with you. While The Cure and Alien Ant Farm do trump 311 and Michael Jackson respectively, Orgy was way better than New Order, in my opinion. And by the way, the artist you're looking for is Frente. She did a cover of Bizarre Love Triangle in around 1994, I think. I haven't heard the original, so I can't really give an opinion on that one, except to say that Frente's version was really good.

EDIT: There's another Cake fan here, NV. The Distance has to be one of the coolest songs on the planet.

Gotta disagree here. America didn't turn out bad, certain Americans did. (I also suspect we'd disagree on the definition of "bad.")

As for "I have to be held guilty for being just that," under no circumstances are the actions of one person responsible for the moral stature of another.

(EDIT - I think I read that wrong. I thought you meant that you were guilty by virtue of being an American, seeing as there are Americans who do bad things. Re-reading it, I see that you meant something else, so never mind about that bit.)

yeah and has anyone noticed that the minimum wage hasn't been raised in 10 years while in the same time congress has had 6 raises? That has developed the largest gap between minimum wage workers and average wage workers since the depression. I am also painfully ashamed of our current foreign policy, but I digress...ponderable time:)

So after we've discussed women's fashions and such and what guys should say about them.... Guys/Girls what is your favorite outfit to see on a person of the SO? Is there a particular thing that gets you going? or is it a style of dress ( feminine, tomboy, etc.) that gets you going?

NVG, I agree with you on the Britain thing. Although the small part of me that is Irish has a bit of a problem, I have a great deal of love and respect for that grand Island. My wife's former roommate's husband is English, and he and I affectionately call each other "Limey" and "Potatohead".

I have vistied England, Wales, Scotland, and Ireland; walked through the cities and countryside, talked to the people, and I miss it every now and then. Hail, Brittania; Nemo me impune lacessit; Erin go Bragh; Cymru am byth!

Thats what your kids need. A large open classroom to further distract and excite them. Plenty of room for the wonderful things kids like ours tend to get themselves into. On the goodside: easier to seperate them and plenty of room for creative desk arrangement and colorful decoration.

I usually go with the original as opposed to the cover version 87% of the time (ok, that's just a fake number). So I will list a few instances that I like a cover MORE than the original artist:

Girl You'll Be A Woman Soon-Urge Overkill (maybe just because of it's Pulp Fiction involvement)
Take On Me-Reel Big Fish
Helter Skelter-U2 (I love the Beatles, but I gotta give this one to Bono and Co....Rattle and Hum baby!)
Hurt-Johnny Cash (not a big NIN fan...)
(this is all that's coming to mind right now)

And pretty much any Bob Dylan song that's been covered (Guns N' Roses, Clapton, Hendrix, U2, Dave Matthews Band) is usally on par with the original because Dylan sure can write a song. I also think that the Goo Goo Dolls did a great job with Supertramp's "Give A Little Bit."

sorry about your parade NV:)So what exactly was the parade for??
..trust me more space better than no space. I had a large classroom for the first 6 years I taught and things were good.. Then they built the new building, ran out of money, and the resource teachers were stuffed into storage rooms. Having my kids penned in a small room is just asking for fights and problems. They need space to call their own and I need a way to separate them if there's an issue...so I am thrilled..mind you a bit less thrilled about the fact that there is a door to the outside at the back of my room ( I will have to find a way to set an alarm sound for that door, just in case)

MSG - don't get me started - i don't have the time (nor do you) to fully rant on the deplorable state of affairs of this administration....i constantly write, phone, email my congressman on issues such as the wage discrepancy in this country - i fear i am losing the battle - it's tough being very liberal in a very consertative state - all i can say is, become an active participant in your government - there are far too many complacent, apathetic people here who will believe anything they see on the tube or hear on talk/hate-radio... and i would say, anything they read... but i wonder sometimes if some of these people possess the intelligence even for that....

Nope, not the Frente version, which I think is on par with the original. There is a version out currently getting radio play. I don't think it's The Crystal Method mix, but could be.

Nevada Indian Days Pow Wow/Rodeo. Though, the rodeo was cancelled this year. Boss decided to use a facility vehicle rather my shiny pony.

Like the idea of having alarms. Ours make everyone in the buiding jump, but never alert the police. Our school district likes to lease modular buildings to pick up on the lack of space. Stupid trailers take so much to heat and cool.

I had a problem getting the ex to be interested in anything but getting married and practicing making babies. All is fair in love and war, but there has to be some opposition. Religion: There has to be some common ground for the mass of believers out there. I guess its the same with everything.

MSG- Ponderable noted, not forgotten. Anything, (and nothing) is fine with me. Though I do love the various length and styles of skirts and dresses on a woman, I really appreciate girls who make jeans and a t-shirt look good. Seeing a woman look good in casual clothing is pretty much an absolute she will be a knockout after getting all gussied up for an evening out.

Too hot outside? Our facility was the one who supplied the gate workers since we already had background checks. Taking money and stamping hands in brick huts in 108 degree heat is the best. Money. Its all about the cost of the rodeo. Just means there will be no beer stand at the fair grounds. I like to have a few beers, but drinking at the Pow Wow is wrong. Its like drinking at a church gathering.
Thought of another like. I love hanging out with a woman in pajamas. Don't know why but it is comforting.

13- Dang Canadians and your... all bein... Canadian and stuff. Stampede. Thats what they call it. I'd only been around the event most of my life and can't remember what it was called.

I've recently discovered a love for linen suits on men. Something very yummy about it. Trying to talk hubby into getting one.

On the topic of religion, how much religious commonality do you think you need with your SO? Could you be in a relationship where one of you was very religious and the other was agnostic or atheist? What about a relationship where you were both very religious, but in separate religions?

For myself, hubby and I have basically the same beliefs, but since I was raised going to church or church activities several times a week, and he was raised not even going on holidays, a religious community and a religious identity is much more important to me than it is to him. It works, but I do wish we were a bit closer on this issue.

On the issue of music
I do infact love both NO Doubt and Green day!

Lately it's mostly Sublime and last night Franz Ferdinanad was nice.

Tubring is my favorite band check them out!
They are a lot of fun and a lot more orginal then most bands these days!

The Shins are really good too!

NV: I've seen Social Distortion twice. Once in a country bar. Man, that was random, but Mike Nees' son lived in our town so they came through. I even have the guitar pick he threw into the crowd at the end of the concert.

CK: Common religious beliefs are pretty necessary for me. Level of committment to the religion is up for discussion. But I can't imagine being with someone who didn't share the same ideology. Friends, no problem. Spouse/SO? big problem.
