Hi everyone,

Well I'm sort of new to this site so maybe I already missed a thread on this, but anyway, it's bugged me ever since I first saw the Serenity DVD cover--doesn't River not really look like herself in that picture? She looks nice and all, but she looks older and to me, almost like a different person... Can't put my finger on it--but it doesn't look at all like her!

What's with that?

Ah, the great DVD cover art topic. There have been countless threads discussing not only how sub-par the US version cover art looks (I'm assuming that's the DVD you're referring to) but also custom covers, and even a llama. Personally, I don't get the whole llama thing...

Anyways, I suggest you get some custom cover art, and there are some really great ones. I printed one off, cut it, slipped it in, and I was set (just make sure you print it on legal sized paper). Here's a lot in one place:

http://www.serenityverse.com/images/thumbnails.php?album=21

And 11th Hour's newest one (I think)

http://srt.art.home.att.net/

I tweaked one for Region 1 (US) and I like it. I'm NOT taking credit for the original artwork, as someone far more artistic than I created it. I just added the proper sound options, rating, etc. PM me if you want the full-res version.

Oh, I almost forgot...welcome to FFF.net!

As you can see by comparing the original to the DVD cover, the geniuses at Universal airbrushed the hell out of Summer Glau's photograph. (If you doubt that they're the same shot, compare the strands of hair around her head and across her chest.)

Not content to puff out her bust (her back strategically placed behind a planet to hide her true size), they proceeded to edit the lighting on her face until she resembled a cross between Jessica Alba and a raccoon.

And yet, for all that, I still think she's cute. Oh, I've got it bad.

Instead she says it is an alpaca, because she has an alpaca obsession. Can anyone loan me 15,000 dollars so I can buy her an alpaca?

Q: What's the difference between alpacas and llamas?

A: Size and fiber quality. Llamas were primarily bred to be a beast of burden, and alpacas were bred primarily as fiber producers. An average alpaca standing 34"-36" at the withers, where llamas stand 42"-48" at the withers. An adult alpaca will generally produce 5-8 pounds of high quality exotic uniformly crimped fiber in a single fiber fleece, each year.

Beats me!

A: Alpacas are cuter! Sorry, but I saw a couple at the Calgary Zoo a couple years ago and I just have to say...awwwwwww. Sorry, I've got a slight obsession with cute animals, to supplement my obsession with Firefly. I guess it helps because I'm a sucker for any episodes with cows or horses. Llamas are cute too though!

Personally I see both a llama and an alpaca. I also see a rooster and an emu. There's an entire petting zoo right on the front cover of the DVD.

What really bugs me the most is that they changed her eye color for the DVD cover. When I met Summer, the first thing that struck me was her absolutely gorgeous big brown eyes. Then on the DVD they're blue. Is blue proven to increase sales or something?

It does not look like Summer at all. On the llama cover, where does that big crowd come from? Was that in the film?
I also resent the fact that on the promotion material, all the BDH's have guns. Ok, Mal, Zoe and Jayne, But everyone else? I can count the times I've seen Wash with a gun on one hand, and Kaylee doesn't even like everyone else having them. I found a dvd cover, once that someone had labelled, and that captured it perfectly, but I can't find it now.

I had never even heard of the series before the movie. After FOX cancelled Dark Angel, I just kinda boycotted them. When I saw the preview for the movie, it showed River hanging from the ceiling, and I thought "Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon." Then that image you were talking on the cover looked like the girl from "The Ring" that crawled out of the tv. And when it said "From the creator of Buffy and Angel" I was just confused. It was only because of a friend that I ever saw it. Needless to say I was hooked after that.

This is only one of so *many* similar stories I've
read here and elsewhere. There should be an
archive made for presentation to the

marketing a follow-on SereniFly project should

Let me just say, the poster was an abomination (well let me resay it, it's been said before). When my family goes to see a movie, we usually walk around the theater and look at the posters for movies coming up, Serenity was no exception. First of all, Nathan doesn't look half as handsome as he normally does, and the man is damn good looking. The poster made me think it would be a corny movie like "Doom" or some other piece of movie. (a la Battlefield Earth) There was no appeal, nothing that would make me want to see it. Of course now I realize how wrong I was and regret full-heartedly never seeing it in the theaters. Crappy marketers, the only realistic possibility is that they're Reavers, hating all of human kind.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I remember when I went out to buy the movie, and I saw it was just going "Is that supposed to be River?" I was with my then-boyfriend, and he was saying "Wow! She looks sexy there!" And I was just going "It doesn't look like her at all!" which to me made it much less sexy. Then I saw the original shot used and said to myself "Oh see, now that is sexy! It looks similar, too..." Then I looked close and, like many others, noticed a few lighting a color changes.
Whatever. No one knows how to handle this property, it seems.

Add my story to the pile. I don't own a TV, so Firefly was never even a blip on my screen.(commodore 64 monitor hooked to DVD and VCR before you ask. We also run a Mac.) Judging from the chat at work we aren't missing anything by not getting a dish and living too far out for cable.

My hubby said "I heard about this Sci-Fi movie that someone said was actually pretty good", so I rented Serenity. Looked at that cover and said "ooooh..posessed goth chick, this looks like a real stinker, but if he insists..."
Next thing you know I've bought the series and the movie. Maybe if they'd spent less money airbrushing River's bust and more on advertizing I would actually have heard of the movie and seen it in the theater.
For Firefly I would consider getting a proper TV, and whatever enhancements needed for reception. The show's that good. We've been considering moving closer in to work anyway. Me:"They got it back on the air!" Him:"Start packing, we're going where they've got cable." Not having to use a dial up modem would also be really really nice.

I was looking around the site (thataway)and found the summer crossover challenge. Anybody tried a Blue's Clues yet? Blue paw prints (blue hands, anyone? there must be a link)all over the place, the notepad that Joe/Steve (whoever the hump it is hosting now)draws the clues in could be picture paper, comments like "any male who wears that much eye makeup has issues". Lots of fun with the theme song "you just figured out blue's clues please don't kill me with your brain".
Sorry, I'm happy to be out of that age grouping.
