Following in the great footsteps of Phoenix Rose's ode to boredom "Exciting Adventures in Sitting", I bring you..."Ennui."

Sitting at my desk. Phone hasn't rung in over 2 hours. Everyone I deal with in Italy ( 6 hours ahead of me here in Maryland )and Norway ( 5 hours ahead ) are home enjoying their loved ones. Boss has mandated that even though most of my work is completed by 10:30 am EST every morning, I must sit here until 4 PM EST every day to get my 8 hours, and "Just in case." There is only so much web browsing one can do.

Share with me, fellow browncoats, your exciting tales of boredom.

Ennui
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ennui (Pronunciation: /?n?i/) is a feeling of weariness and dissatisfaction.
The phrase mihi in odi est, meaning “I hate or dislike,” gave rise to the Vulgar Latin verb inodire, “to make odious,” the source of the Old French verb ennuyer or anoier, “to annoy, bore.” This was borrowed into English by around 1275 as anoien, our annoy. From the Old French verb a noun meaning “worry, boredom” was derived, which became ennui in modern French. This noun, with the sense “boredom,” was borrowed into English in the 18th century, perhaps filling a need in polite, upper class society.
Ennui is different from boredom in that ennui describes weariness or annoyance over a long period of time; boredom is relieved easily, while ennui is constant.

My job is frustrating, no pleasure and a lot of headaches. I seem to have too much or nothing to do - no in between. All the women here hate me, and there are no men.

I can only surf so much because my back is to the enitre room and I get really bored.

Lets all move to a tropical isle and set up a Browncoat retreat.

I've done some housecleaning & laundry & grocery shopping...
and even more time on the internet!

I recommend fan fic for boredom you can kill hours reading online...and if you love the story you can use up the office paper & ink printing it out!.
Have you printed out your own copy of the un-made extra episode?

Frank Sinatra used to sing about fighting the old ennui....
but his song didn't have any really suggestions for it.

I'm rather flattered

Ah, here I am at work again, with the ordering system down so if the phone does ring I get to say "I'm sorry, you need to call back tomorrow as the system is down for maintenance" at least half the time.
Joy I hate my job.
I have decided, though, that I am going to apply at every FedEx Kinko's I can find in the area, see if they want a graphic artist who can work graveyard. Or even better, a graphic artist that they won't make work graveyard anymore! Also, every bank, because I'm accurate with money and they pay well. Wish me luck, 'coats! Job searches, while not boring per se, can be frustrating, mind-numbing, and highly unpleasant.
So there's my story. One of many. The most recent, anyway.

Talk about dissatisfaction.

oh MSG you do NOT want to miss out on any of the goodies...
most of which are listed in this old thread:
http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=15816

specifically 'Dead or Alive' (a finished script which was never filmed) is here:
http://www.fireflyfans.net/feature.asp?f=45
and let us thank Haken for allowing the kind of space which has made this script available at this site ever since 'Firefly' was cancelled.

enjoy!

I think it would be pretty shiny for someone with good narrative skills to adapt the "Dead or Alive" script into novella form.

I'm on a dramatic fly-hunting mission! The flies want to spoil my leisure time and my food! Going after them with a Fly Killer swatter; and this time, it's personal.

Hehe, put a fly swatter in this guy's hand and that's about right:

You want boring? Friday the temp hit 95 degres, so the bosses decide to move me into the air conditioned offices (Superman has kryptonite, I have high heat and humidity) and have me do work they hate doing: going through the shipping invoices for the past month and stapling them to the sales invoices. Took me two hours to get that done, then the rest of the day I put the office furniture together for the new office employee (she's cute but she drives hyndai-strike one )

Ahhh, someone should revive the lightbulb thread...it was oh so much fun to read in between bouts of ennui!

Ok, I'm going to be a complete bummer on this thread and say if you have down time in between work.. and you have bored time in between more bored time... volunteer to help out the FFF.net Event Team.

We still have openings on the Forum Crew. It isn't much to do, just post an announcement for FFF.net once or twice a month on a forum of your choosing ( you just have to tell us your choosing, so's as we don't have too many folks havin' the same choosin's). Easy peasy as our own Ms. PR says.

Wanna?

And on a similar note; contact me with any special photoshops you want done for posting (banners, sigs, whatever) and check out what I already have in my blue sun room
Sorry, I'd post on other forums, but this is the only forum I love; others I've been to I really could't stand. But I can contribute artwork
