Example, please? Not agreeing or disagreeing with you, but I have a personal
theory about Joss. However, other than Firefly commentary I've never heard
anything he has to say. Need data...

Actually, I tend to think that he *is* a nerd (like many of us? ). I know I've had the experience of something sounding cool in my head but coming out sounding really nerdy once I say it. Maybe Joss really is one of those artistically gifted by interpersonally nerdy people?

Really! I love Joss interviews. I always giggle my head off. I get very uncomfortable when other people are in awkward situations. Which is why I don't watch any reality tv and rarely watch interview-oriented shows (Today, GMA, daytime talk shows etc) because I feel so uncomfy. I worry about the persons involved feeling or doing something awkward or stupid or... yeah it's just painful to watch for me personally. It makes me squirm and avert my eyes and promptly remove myself from that particular viewing displeasure. So that gives you an idea of how I normally feel watching most interviews-nothing but love for Joss interviews though. What about them usually bother you? I find him funny and relatable, (Don't you totally want to have dinner and drinks and TALK with him?) and uncompromising(for lack of a better word) in his manner, humor, and "nerdiness". It seems that unlike most interviewees Joss doesn't pretend and he's comfortable in his own skin. What you see is what you get. That's refreshing to me.

Could it be that if you don't enjoy Whedon's interviews, you haven't really understood his work? Not to worry - there are folks who think that Firefly is a Libertarian tract, that Jayne has sex with girls ... the list grows daily

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

I've only seen the "interview with Joss who is Joss but not really Joss" interview; the youtube one, you know, where the guy is acting like it's a costume and Joss is playing along and being very funny. I thought that was great. Also there was his "Equality Now" speech that was one of the more brillaint things I've ever seen.
I think it's just you. Joss is cool.

I think Joss does an amazing interview -- smart, self-deprecating, funny and way fast on his feet. He does much better off-the-cuff interviews and speeches than do professional actors (who are used to having their lines written for them), and speaks better than most writers do, too (probably because he's also around performers so much).

And consider -- he must run into fans all the time who are so star-struck all they can manage to say is, "You! -- Buffy! -- Love your shows! -- Aw, man!--" and yet I've never heard him to say, "Please, you moron, get out of my way, I've had a lousy day..." :)

Yea im with everyone else, he is a nerd, which i relate to. he's also very clever and witty, but i guess some people don't quite get his humor. but anyway ive never seen him in anything where i though he was lame or awkward or anything like that.

John Sweden! I luurrvveedd that "interview with Joss who is Joss but not really Joss" interview. Beyond shiny. That's one fan/interviewer who can think on his feet too. Another cool thing that I absolutely love, go to Whedonesque and click on Joss posts, reading his hi-larious posts are always a giggle fest.

Joss is never lame, it's just you, clearly just you. Naw, I don't mean that, but I agree with most people here that he embraces his nerdiness and isn't too full of himself, even with his amount of fame. I loved that interview where it's him pretending to not be him as well. That's some funny stuff. Maybe I just love Joss a little too much for creating Firefly, but don't we all?

PurpleBelly delurks and fires a well-placed multi-warhead pho-torp into the bulkhead of USS FireflyFans-C, set on timed delay. He then quickly goes back to lurk mode and beats feet for The Neutral Zone...

Hey man, nice shot. What a good shot, man...

Appreciatively,

Joss does that little snort-exhale-through-the nose thing, along with a quick multiple blink, and a pursing of the lips, as a pause between quips. I get the distinct impression that's a maternal affectation, and more than casually nerdy.

It doesn't bother me much, but it is noticeable. I guess we all have our little 'tells' and physical quirks...

Parenthetically,

I saw Joss being interviewed in Edinburgh and he was funny and informative but there's a definite toughness there. Not in a mean spirited way but there's a side of him which I really wouldn't want to piss off. I probably wouldn't want him as my boss either.

Ah, who am I kidding - working for Joss would be awesome!

^ I'm not sure that Whedon as lone-auteur is the way to go. Some of us just need to work with other strong personalities if our talent is not to be swamped by self-indulgence. My hope is that the circumstances around Firefly made Serenity a special case.

But then, I'm just a mean old man ...

Purp':

Well, I still enjoyed "Serenity", 'though I must admit, not as much as the collaborative efforts on display in Firefly. As highly regarded as he may be, it's possible that Minear does not get the full credit he deserves, if only for reining Whedon in a bit. So, your point is taken.

I'm having a hard time seeing Wonder Woman as a better idea than Elektra (or Buffy). There's bound to be a deeply symbiotic relationship with CGI/SFX in this movie that perhaps distracts Joss from the story and characters (his forte) a little bit. (NB: As with "Serenity"? He 'apologizes' for not having enough time to get deeply into each character, yet still has plenty of time for a 'car chase' featuring his drooled-over hovercraft, et cetera...)

Sorry about the length, and I'd agree Whedon can get ego-struck a little, and may not be as clever as he thinks he is...

Distantly,

zoid

I must admit that I know even less about Wonder Woman than the characters of the 'Verse - I suppose I just meant Joss' next thing and got carried away with the Caribbean alliteration.

Good one. I ain't about to take that bet; I'm too attached to my creditors to just give the stuff away. But I might have a waggle on whether there's a WW-as-a-teenager kickass scene somewhere near the beginning of the film...

I've always loved watching Joss interviews. He really is a nerd, which means that us nerdy people understand him. He always seems to be himself, comfortable in his skin and not afraid to show it and I find that really admirable. Huzzah for Joss!
