I was reading the "First Album bought" thread and realized I couldn't remember. But I do remember my first concert!

I was 13, it was 1977 and my older brother took me to see Aerosmith. Golden Earring opened for them. Aerosmith was FANTASTIC and I have had a passion for the "Get your WIngs" album ever since. The lead singer for Golden Earring was so msessed up, he couldn't remember the words, let alone that they were on stage and at one point started to drop trou and do his business - he was quickly removed.

My first concert was Yes during the 90125 tour. I was 16, I think. It was in August, so I might have been on the verge of 17. I know I was going to be a senior in High School...

Anyway, my next oldest sister took me and we had lawn seats initially, but friends that went with us bought tickets from people on the way in. One was a 2nd row aisle seat the other was 50 rows back from the stage.

We all took turns using the "floor" seats and when it was my turn, I got to use the 2nd row aisle seat (what a treat for a first time concert goer!) and as luck would have it, they played my favorite song from the album when I was there (City of Love).

I had a moment of panic when I went to take the seat because security was getting tired of the revolving door on that seat and were going to make me sit there! Well, I had to explain that I might get left there if I stayed, so they let me go back and give the rest of my party the message that one person was to come back and just stay there.

I saw Yes during the Drama tour - 9/11/80 at the Capital Center in Md. I remember that one of my friends plugged her ears through the whole thing because the high frequencies were hurting her ears. Somewhere I still have the t-shirt.

I saw ALOT of concerts from 1977 to 1986. Have only seen 1 since :(

Wow. First concert I went to was in 1979...KISS, in Phoenix, AZ! My mother and stepfather-to-be took me...it was a blast! Granted, I was only 8 at the time, but I still loved it!

Jars Of Clay,(A Christian rock band, for anyone who doesn't know.) I believe I was in sixth grade, It was a good concert, not as good as Aerosmith or anyone like that. I honestly don't remember much about it, just that I was there really. Apparently it was a very unmemorable concert.

To the members of Jars Of Clay, if you read this, Sorry guys, it just really wasn't my kind of music.

my first concert was the beach boys reunion tour my friends parents took us we were 8 I think.

My first real ( purchased tickets and drove self) was with my then boyfriend now husband and it was the Page and Plant tour in like 1994 ( I've only been to those 2 I really don't like concerts)

My first concert was in 2000. My brother and some of his friends took me to see Iron Maiden at Earl's Court in London. Entomed and Slayer were the support bands but we didn't see much of them, we made our way through the crowd at the end of Slayers set. Maiden were outstanding - no surprises there - and put on an excellent stage show.

Interesting side note (for those interested), Iron Maiden actually covered a Golden Earring track in 1990 called Kill Me Ce Soir.

After Aerosmith, my brother took me to the Fleetwood Mac Rumors concert. After they left the stage, people left the venue, we had been told to stay for a surprise. We walked down to the stage with maybe 50 other people and Christine McVie came out and sang "Songbird". It was beautiful.

I am listing in my head all the concerts I saw and I am trying to figure out where the hell I got the money! I do know that I went and got a Hecht Co credit card, cause the ticket master was in the Hecht CO store at Tysons Corner.

Penguin - Barry Manilow Rocks! My brother and I took my mom to Neil Diamond for her birthday - probably 1980 - it was AWESOME! (Though he and I told NONE of our friends)

I've always preferred the shows in small clubs to the big concerts. And even when talking about big names. I've seen REM at giant concerts and I've seen REM at the 40 Watt Club in Athens (the old one, back when fitting more than 150 people in it meant group sex) and I like the 40 Watt more.

My first concert was Alice Cooper when I was 7. It was a small club show in Vancouver and my stepfather sat me on the side of the stage next to the speaker. There was a point in the show where Cooper tears the leg off a doll and blood comes gushing out -- well he did this as he started walking towards me and I started screaming hysterically. Cooper stopped the show and showed me it was a doll and all pretend. I ran into him in 1994 and all I had to mention was the year and the club and he remembered me, right down to what I was wearing. LOL

The first concert ticket I bought for myself was Rick Springfield in 1981.

Def Leppard in 1987... their "comeback" tour after drummer Rick Allen lost his arm. His drumming - using his left foot on drum pads instead of his arm - was much better live than on record, giving it more "what for".

Last big name band I saw was Rammstein about a year ago. Lots of OTT German language flame-thrower sturm-und-drang! [img]

I love this thread! My first concert was yesterday (isn't this convenient)!!! I went to see Ringo Starr and his All Star Band, it was the most amazing experience ever. Ringo is such a funny/adorable/nice guy. And Edgar Winter was in his band and he has this cut elittle way of walking around the stage and sort of punching the air. And their drummer, (besides Ringo), was Sheila E. and she did these amazing drum solos and then Ringo told her to do another so she did. All the classics were played like Yellow Submarine, Photograph, With a Little Help From My Friends, Act Naturally, etc... And then Edgar Winter played Frankenstein and Free Ride, there were other amazing people but I won't go over EVERY song. The stage was beautiful as well, three huge stars in the background. Ringo's so cute, at one point he said, "I love the lighting people, they make me look like I'm 21" It was just an amazing concert, and even more amazing because it was my first, I even got a t-shirt! (My inner Beatles fan comes through, ah well)

Friends and I had floor seats waaay in the back, but when we got there found that our seats were taken away by a whole bunch of A/V equipment. We got relocated by guest services to the 12th row. I will never, ever forget staring up at Simon LeBon and being certain of our impending marriage!

School trip. La Traviata at the Royal Lyceum, Edinburgh.

Real old-style burgundy velvet and gold-leaf job.

Lights go down, and the opening of the overture was dead quiet and sounded exactly like burgundy velvet too. Pure Magic.

As for popular music, I'm ashamed to say Rick Wakeman in the 6 Wives of Henry VIII. Quite good actually, but he always had utterly rubbish singers. Pre-punk, we used to be impressed by stcks of keyboards ans manual dexterity, as opposed to, you know... stuff that was actually good.

Seen lots since those dark days.

I took my son to his first concert last year, it was Duran Duran. I had friends come over from the UK to see go to the concert, too. They bought the tickets in the UK online got 9th row at the Palace (Detroit)!! I live here and couldn't have gotten those tickets. I told my son not to get used to sitting so close to the band at a big concert like that. It was a great show!

The James Brown Revue, in the old Atlanta stadium, in about 1966. Full orchestra, girl singers, dancers, quite a show. Thing I remember most is when James went into "Say It Out Loud! I'm Black and I'm Proud!". 20,000 or so proud Blacks were on their feet singing and dancing, and I and my buddy were the two nervious white guys sitting there trying to look cool. But it was cool, and we all had a great time.

First real concert: Chris LeDoux at the Reno rodeo ... can't remeber when. One hell of a country performer. Etched in my mind forever: In the middle of For Your Love, Mr. LeDoux rode a mechanical bull surrounded by fireworks. Few years later I saw the Scorpions open for Motley Crue. Scorpions played despite a thunderstorm at sunset. Greatest ever!

Unfortunately, Merriweather has fallen on hard times since a gi-normous outdoor venue in Northern Virginia called Nissan Pavillion. However, several "old timers" have said they will only play Merriweather for sentimental reasons. Most notably, Paul Simon.

LOVE old bay. It is amazing what you can put it in and on! I miss Chesapeake Seafood House. In high school I briefly dated the son of the owner. We would go there and eat all we wanted for free. The hush puppies! I miss the hush puppies!

Mine was the Anglia for Africa concert, 1985, in Eaton Park, Norwich, Norfolk, UK. This was a local effort in support of the first Live Aid concert.

Things I remember:

1. Underground Zero (a band I had never heard of and still know nothing about) coming on stage while I was foolishly standing right in front of it. I was instantly surrounded by manically moshing (did people mosh back then?)fans with their hands in the air doing the devils horns symbol. I spent their set with the safety barrier digging painfully and rhythmically into my gut.
2. The Farmers Boys singing 'Down in the country.' rather faster than normal because their backing tape got messed up.(Hands up who remembers the Farmers Boys... No?)
3. Hawkwind (I think) finishing off the night with fireworks and a woman of generous proportions dancing about in silver lame.

It was a strange experience all in all.

After that it was Billy Joel at Webely Stadium and the Pougues at the University of Eat Anglia in the same week I think.

Like MSG, my first concert was The Beach Boys Renunion when I was a wee one. It was at the county fair.

The first stadium concert I made a choice to go to was I think Lenny Kravitz with Blind Melon opening...although there may have been someone else before that. I can't seem to remember but the aforementioned concert was my freshman year in college and I am positive I went to see someone before that.

Best concert was Dave Matthews Band with Los Lobos opening.

Best big name band (BNB) club show: Tie between Social Distortion and They Might Be Giants

Best little-known band club show: Skankin' Pickle. Went twice in two days.

First CD: Voice of the Beehive, Honey Lingers. I got into CDs late in the game.

It was incredible.

Shane McGowan was swaying gently through every song out of sync with the music but in sync with the beer.

Favorite bits:

When they played 'Fiesta' and the bloke playing the accordian just went ape all over the stage and it was the most alive/exultant thing I've ever seen. Everybody in the audience leaped about along with him.

The 'Irish Rover' because it's fun and everybody sung along.

'The band played Waltzing Matilda' because it tears out my insides.

Wish I could have seen that tour! I kept missing it!

I did see Def Leppard (now my favorite band) twice for Adrenalize, (kept missing the tours until more recently) then twice for X, then twice for Rock of Ages, and this year I'll only get to see them once (that I know of, anyway).

MAVOURNEEN, there is no shame in seeing Duran Duran. I would have loved to see them!!! Still would, really...

Well this will just prove how young I am compared to everyone else...

My first concert was *NSYNC in 4th Grade. We had lawn seats and I had a horrible time because even though I was pretty tall for a 4th Grader, I was still short and the girls in front of us would not stop jumping up and down, so I didn't get to see much of the boys until the end when they were on wires.

My first Rock Concert was Green Day last August. I had one of my worst weeks of school the week before and the worst day ever the day before and it came just at the right time. I don't think I've ever had such an awesome time. And I have Mike Dirnt's pick to prove it...

My first local show was a couple of months ago. I went to see my favorite Local band Kenotia and saw Cruiserweight and Feable Weiner. They were great! Then it got all Hardcore and I left...My ears were ringing for 3 days because of the volume of the speakers and how small the space was...

I've been quite boring. I've only been to 3 concerts here in Atlanta with LONG breaks between.

1st was Phil Collins at Lakewood Amphitheater on his Seriously Live tour. That was a really fun show.

2nd was a 5 band show lead by Midnight Oil also at Lakewood. I had no idea that there would be 5 bands and was horribly dissapointed when the Oil only played for maybe 30-45 minutes. Seemed like seconds and it was over, although I was shocked how much I like the Hothouse Flowers who played before them.

3rd and last was Sarah McLaughlin at the Fox theater. That was an amazingly good show. I was only going with my wife really but after that I was a big big fan.

My first concert was Incubus, in about 2001. They were playing at Cobo in Detroit. I was way in the back, because I didn't have the forethought to get floor seats. The real irony was when I on my way out. A then little-known band called 30 Seconds To Mars was opening for Incubus, and they were signing autographs out front. I was so busy navigating the crowd that I failed to notice Jared Leto less than ten feet away for me. *sigh*

My favorite concert was the Midland County Fair (don't laugh). Shinedown, Seether, Our Lady Peace, and Three Doors Down was playing. Three Doors Down was actually the headliner, but I was really there to see Our Lady Peace. Raine Maida singing "Starseed" has to be one of the coolest experiences I've ever had.

The worst concert I've been to was Ra, Powerman 5000, and Stone Sour at Harpo's in Detroit. Ra and Powerman were great (especially Ra, that guy has the most amazing voice). Stone Sour on the other hand, was terrible. They had these blinding lights that were more appropriate for a stadium than a club, and Corey, the lead singer, is more than a bit of a hundan.
