You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Tristan told me to go ahead and start a new thread so long as the title was Shakespearean in nature.
So I did

Last imponderables thread is here: http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=22436&m=345190#345190

So... discuss.

Wheee! First post!

Lol, Rose, I'm not usually up this late, but packing at the last minute is sort of an art form, it's gotta be done right.

Btw what play is that from? It's a great choice. Sounds like Romeo n' Juliet to me, party scene perchance? Just a guess.

Hmmm... should we be pondering stuff? Actually, screw that, I have a question... Why do all the posts happen early in the morning? On my summer schedule I sleep from around 11pm to 9am-ish, PST, and somehow I always miss most of the posting. What's with that I wonder?

It says it is from "Twelfth Night". The full quote is actually a little depressing, but this little piece of it I like.

Everyone is going somewhere except me! *pout*
Sorry, my bestest friend left town yesterday for a week. It's not a really vacation vacation, but she's still going somewhere and I'm stuck here working. Bother.

Yeah, we should probably be impondering. I got nothin'. I'm at work, I can't think, and I've asked a lot lately. I'm sure some shiny folk'll be up soon to ask the shiny questions.

...I hope.

Sorry, missed this. Strange, because I find the posts kind of explode when I get home from work, which is around 7am my time (Mountain) and I end up staying up late posting, then miss all the posts I sleep through and make up for it with page-long responses.
I am of course on this time of night/morning because of the night shift thing. A lot of people feel they miss a lot while they sleep, though, because this board is almost always active. Except at about 4am my time. Then it is dead.

Now?

Kinda dead.

Oh no, not the dead jokes. Just watched the first 4 eps of Tru Calling, more dead person jokes than you can... um.... something about stick shaking. They did it as a joke on morgue jokes tho.

Dont worry about missing stuff, I tend to edit my post when it is the bottom of the thread, which with the two of us seems likely.

So night shift one of them reasons you your job?

Yeah, kind of like now. It's 3am my time right now, and things are slowing down. But at least the thread list is moving in some way, even if it's slowly. At 4am, if the threads move, I'm more than likely the one moving them.

I still have no impondering. With as much picking apart of things we do, though, I think it's okay for this to turn into a chatty thread every once in awhile. We're at least sort of talking about our own habits. Sort of. And you're male and I'm female so...
Yeah, I'm reaching. Oh well.

I used to love night shift; thought I was naturally nocturnal. It worked well for awhile, now I'm tired of it because I'm so out of step with the rest of the world. That was ok when I had a somewhat regular social schedule. Getting dumped threw that off a little, and now I want to meet people, which is hard when I work nights.
But other reasons exist. There aren't any benifits, the pay isn't far above living wage, and new accounts are being added all the time that I don't know about. Most of the time they don't ring in at night, but if they do I have major freak outs. Blah.
Plus it just isn't a creative job. I'm wasted here.

See, it works fine. And if folk have a problem with chatty threads, well they'll have to reclaim it with something all meaningful n stuff.

Still cant think of anything! Grrrrr....

Hmm, male aggression manifesting itself in primitive grunting noises? Grrr... that's reaching too.

It just occured to me... if I'm gonna be 8 hours ahead, maybe that means I can join in the conversations! Cause when folks in the states have morning, folks in UK have.... afternoons! That could be handy.

Ok, lets get MEANINGFUL!!! What is the meaning of life!?

Oh, I'm certain it's a picture of a real sign, because I've seen the picture before, but saying something different. It has simply been PhotoShopped. Quite skillfully, too, I admire whoever managed it. I can make elaborate things in PhotoShop, but it's those simple-looking things that usually trip me up.

If happiness is one of those songs from Charlie Brown do I get Xander doing his Snoopy dance??

I actually meant the actual musical by that name, "you're a good man charlie brown"... no snoopy dance for you! But I'll throw in a yellow crayon for free!

Lol, it seems like the imponderables thread sorta boils down to a bunch of lonely folk looking for company and a bunch of married folk cheering us up! Bah!

My own yellow crayon!!... it's more than I ever hoped for! Now I can have yellow crayon stories of my own to add to Willow and Xanders...!

Philosophy? I'm on my way to dinner, remember? It will involve drinking certain substances and lots of food etc... so if I disappear suddenly and then reappear (sometime later) in a slightly less-than-philosophical mood.. you'll understand I hope!

P.S. - You are right - the original quote is from "Twelvth Night" - another favourite of Willy Shakes works, but one I have never appeared in or workshopped myself...

I think it's something like - 'if music is food for love then let me pig out until I die or at least lose my appetite!'

Yeah - actually it's pretty depressing ... I think I need you guys to sort me out on the poetic stuff sometimes!

Still - when I do get home (once I've been there that is) I will hop back on line to say goodnight at least!

BTW - you know you told me about those sites/threads how to post cute little dancing thingies - I get way too caught up in the posting to just stop and read them! Still I have some time off soon so I might get around to it then! You will be the first to know when I have managed to learn that trick!! - promise!!

Just so you know I appreciated it an all!

Happy to, Tristan!

Killing time... That's a good question. I will kill time in about any way available to me, I don't tend to be picky. Unless I hate something But I think as there tends to be a lot of differing interests from person to person, it would be hard to tell if their gender had anything to do with such a broad range of choices.
Or maybe I'm babbling to kill time.

Yeah - same here - it's the art of procrastination that gets me! I will do anything as long as it prevents me from doing something else!! (like I watched 4 episodes of Firefly today instead of putting the washing out to dry!)

Might be that being on this site is a form of killing time for me sometimes... but when it's 1am and I'm tired and have to get up in the morning I think it's really loyalty & procrastination in equal measures (though it might be madness pure and simple!)

well that's more what i was thinking, not so much what we do in our spare time, but what we do when we've got, say, an hour to kill before going somewhere, and nothing particular to do, just thought it'd be interesting to see if there were any patterns or trends like.

i tend to browse forums, but then in this context that's a no-brainer and fairly surely non-gender specific, so i guess i'd have to say either reading, or doodling somewhere, or if it's a long enough time to kill (week on annual leave for example) spend my afternoons either reading or doodling, but in nice coffee shops (or nice chocolate shops, found one specialising in chocolate, and more chocolate, if a cup or (gorgeous) tea and death by chocolate is your thing, this is the place )or like now, rambling very vaguely about a specific subject without saying anything of substance

Yeah - I love a good coffee shop and fortunately Melbourne (sorry... 'New Melbourne') has oodles of them!!!

I also found a gorgeous shop specialising in chocolate - both the eatin' & the drinkin' kind! Their chilli hot chocolate is to die for on a cold winters day! I just don't get to go there often enough!

Reading has always been a popular passtime for me - as has sleeping (I can nap anywhere - even on a bumpy, unpadded jeepney, crossing the mountains in the Philippines! True!) Writing - I keep several diaries intermittently! - and uh - watching DVDs ... have 'seen' (or had on in the background) all 3 'Back to the Future' films, 'I Robot', 'Pride and Prejudice', 'Serenity' (dur!), 'War Games' (matthew Broderick was a baby!!) and 'Pirates of the Carribean' in the last week alone! ... sad isn't it?

Anyway - I have put it off long enough - I love you all but I must leave you - "Good night, good night, parting is such sweet sorrow...."

m'm, this place does chili hot chocolate too, my flatmate's taken to keeping it around the place at all times ^^

can appreciate the sleeping anywhere thing, managed to fall asleep in the back of a four-ton truck going over a mountain when i was in cadets but mostly just tend to zone out and daydream, but can get pretty close to actual sleep when i'm doing that i've got to confess.

can't say as i do the same with films though, i mean i love films, but i don't tend to watch them in the background, either i'm watching a film or i'm not (not good with interuptions when i am come to that).

damn, no trend at all so far

Rose, sorry about abandoning you! Sleep is important for us non-night shift folk.

Kill time... well... basically I kill time all the time playing stupid computer games with no meaning that I only occassionally find fun. Meh. My sisters tended to read a ton instead, it's a debate (ok, I'm the only one on my side) which is worse. Stupid computer games.

Oh my! I have never seen a thread so short! I must jump in headfirst and take advantage of this oppurtunity!!
I finished school yesterday for 6 whole weeks! WHOO! *Victory dance* and Munkyfest is coming up soon! (mental note to self: must buy tickets)

Killing time: depends on how long I have to kill. I can do this weird thing where I sit don't think about anything, then I'll sart agin, like two hours later, and be like: "woah, where did all time go?" I read a loads, or if its a long time, I'll watch a dvd.
I watched Serenity the other day, and as always, cried, and my sister, who was watching too, made fun of me, then laughed at poor Wash, so I told her she was dead inside and an insult fest ensued! Then I watched Serenity the pilot and came up with a great idea for a sort of sequel to my Operative fic.

Speaking of books, what book are you reading at the moment? Or, if you can think that far back, what are the last 3 books you read?
I read loads, when I'm on holiday, we're talking at least one adult book per day, and 2 teenage ones.

I love that sign! Pity It's not real, though I'm not sure if this one is or not...

Read it awhile back.

While some of it is a bit outdated (Espenson has to restrain herself from talking about the movie, lol.) it's no less interesting. My favorite quote in a sick way is from the end of one of the essays, and goes something like this.

"If FOX hadn't canceled the show, we would not be eagerly awaiting the Firefly movie. Because the show would be beginning its fourth season."

Not exactly insightful, but damnit that one hurt.

P.S. Lol, never got where the "space hooker" phrase came from, but as it turns out, F** coined it in their trailers. Bastards.

WHITEFALL

I'll be out of the world for a spell, in about half an hour. Somehow I cant get FFFnet when 30,000 feet up!

"But, these strong women characters?"

"Why aren't you asking 100 other guys why they don't write strong women characters?" -Joss Whedon

Oh you totally could, Whitefall, it'd just cost a bundle in in-flight dial-up fees. And require a laptop. So yeah, it'd cost a ton. So we'll forgive you.

Anyhow, just checkin in, since I'm killing time and all, lol. For killing time, I come here, play video games, read fanfiction, watch Firefly, watch shows recorded on the DVR, knit, and work. What can I say, I've got work on the brain. Just finished a bit, gunna go do a bit more (but it's fun stuff), while waiting for hubby to finish up his WoW stint. When he's done, I think we're going to the beach. Woohoo!

I would believe headbanging, but moshing lobsters? I don't think it would look like much of anything.

STINKINGROSE

(Jumping in unexpectedly)
Nah, just open up the claw really wide and flail their antennae. Oh wait, they do that all the time...

I'm painting my kitchen to amuse myself. Okay I'm doing it because we've been here for almost 3 years and the cabinets are peeling, but it's quite amusing to realize you don't have adequate ventilation and your pupils are constricting in time with your headache. Let's hear it for box fans set to maximum!

As for entertainment US vs. UK, we've got plenty of reality shows over here too. If things haven't changed too much since I spent a semester in London you've definitely got better commercials.

If anyone is in Oxfordshire or thereabouts over the next 8 days and you see a group of Morris Men with American accents you've probably just met my hubby. No, you can't escape it no matter how far you move. The Morris will follow. Mine is an evil jingly laugh!

PHOENIXROSE

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Actually, I think Inara was referred to as a cosmic hooker in the F** trailer, but that's ok.
I mostly really enjoyed Finding Serenity, though there was one or two essays that made me scream "Did you actually WATCH the show you ?!?!" One in particular. But mostly it was very good. And I think it has a Chinese index in the back. Not that you can't find all the chinese translations online (several sites) but it's nice to have it in hard copy.

I expected to miss a bit more than that. That's ok, though
Hey, there's a new one! StinkingRose. Huh. Not sure if I like your handle or am offended by it
