Puro flipped some switches, pressed some buttons and replied back to Darren through the com "Shiny everything's running smooth. Thank you Darren."

"No problem Puro just doin' my job." Darren said into the com. He clicked off the com satisfied with his work. Darren wiped off his hands and headed for the cargo bay.

Puro activated the shipwide com "Darren's got us up and running Captain. Awaiting your orders sir."

The Captain looked at the man from the past and lept toward him. He grabbed his neck and threw him across the galley in an instant the doctor was up and delivering a punch to Faolin's stomach while shooting a tranq at Banner. The fight continued back and forward until both we're tired and bloody. We'll meet again Faolin the man disappeared with a brigth flash of light. the captain had barely enough time to page Dr. Luap before colapsing

Darren made it to the cargo bay at the same time as Dr. Luap. "What happened in here Doc?"

Dr. Luap shrugged "I don't know Darren but go check on the others while I check on the Captain."

Darren nodded and stepped over Banner's tranqed body. Darren grinned and thought about kicking Banner in the crotch, but stopped thinking that as he noticed Shanti slumped underneath the stairs. He ran over to her, knelt down, and checked her pulse.

"Oh good yer alive." Darren said to himself. He propped Shanti's head on his lap and said as shook her gently "Shanti it's Darren! Please wake up!"

Roughly yanking the dart from his neck, Banner uneasily stood to his feet, swaying slightly. Darren shot a quick look to the merc, then back to the prone cook.

"'Ello, Darren. Hey, Shanti get tranqed too? Sh'ain't quite got my constitution."

Squatting beside the unconcious Shanti, Banner quickly draws a small silver flask from his hip pocket.

"Hell are you doing?" Darren shouts, raising his fist.

"Try'n hit me again, I'll put ya down so hard your neck'll snap," Banner replies calmly, unscrewing the flask. "Wake-up juice, my own blend. Quite handy back'n in the war."

Are ya comin' on ta me Banner? Cause if'n ya are I only like womenfolk." Darren replied with a smile. Before Banner could reply, Shanti spitted and sputtered. She blinked opened her eyes and looked around "Ugh what was that?"

"It'd be best if'n ya didn't ask." Darren said as he looked at Banner. He lifted Shanti up gently as Banner put away his flask. Shanti smiled at Darren "Thank you for helping me up."

"Eh it was nothin' Shanti." Darren replied.

"Aw get a room ya two." replied Banner with a disgusted look on his face.

Shanti spun around to face Banner "And just what do you mean by that Banner?"

Shanti pauses, a thoughtful look on her face. "How old are you, Banner?"

"Fifty-one," he replies coolly, ramming a cigar into his mouth. "What 'bout you, Darren? Didn't bother to ask, what with your antagonism and all."

Shanti shakes her head, still dizzy.

"Captain? Can I ask what just happened, or is that something I'm better off not knowing as well?" The acrid taste of Banner's patented wake-up juice stuck to her tongue and throat like oil and she made her way into the kitchen and dug in the cooler for some not-quite-orange-juice.

Turning, she caught Banner watching her with a strange look on his face. What was it? Sympathy? Concern? It didn't look quite like the burly merc, whatever it was.

Puro's voice brought her out of her musings, "How the hell did he get onboard. I didn't open any airlocks for hell-bent strangers!"

Darren felt his stomach rumble. After all that happened in the cargo bay, he was hungry. Darren shrugged and left the engine room. He saw everyone in the galley as he walked in and made his way to the pantry.

Banner spotted Darren and said "Oy I thought ya was gonna stay in the engine room like a good greasemonkey."

Darren turned around, saw Banner and smiled "I changed my mind Gramps. My stomach was rumblin' so's I came here for somethin' ta eat. Savvy?"

"Ya best watch what ya say ta me boy or else?" Banner spat out.

"What are ya goin' ta do, break a hip?"

"ENOUGH!" shouted Faolin. "You two stop this bickering or you two will find yourselves out of a job and thrown out an airlock."

"Yes sir!" both Banner and Darren had managed to say. Darren grabbed a couple of granola bars and sat down at the table across from another. Banner was about to reach for one when he caught the Captain looking at him. Banner retracted his hand and gave Darren a wicked grin. Darren gave Banner an unfazed look and bit into his granola bar.

By that time everyone had stopped talking and were looking at the two men. Captain Faolin spoke up "Well if you two are finished with your childish banter, can we please get back to how that man got onto my ship?"

"In this sort o' business, yeah. Think about it; you an' Shanti become best o' friends, practically inseparable, right? Then, once one of ya gets killed, the rest of us would have a useless unit."

Ignoring that comment, Banner continues with his impromptu lecture.

"Love is highly dangerous for a mercenary of any sort, even if it's love for someone outside the business. Jus' heaps on a whole buncha worry and anticipation, and, once again, when one of ya dies.." Banner shrugs non-committadely. "Ya can't function without half of yerself."
