wow-
i just wrote this huge post about how i hope that when Firefly:the Movie gets made and starts cracking skulls at the box office and how i hope that the series is revived by anyone but the SciFi channel because of how craptastic Sliders turned out after moving there from the 'F' word

i just am hoping that if it is indeed revived, that it lives up to the near legendary status of the original eps(and assuming the entire team is back,writers-directors-producers-composers,hell,bring back the camera guys too)it will...but i cut my post down to this...i tend to ramble on and off topic, and with little creative editing, bam, leaner post...
thanks for readin'

I'll be in my bunk.-Jayne

I like long posts. But yeah there is always a concern that if the show ever does manage to make it back that they have to be changes and it wouldn't be the show we remembered. but it would be nice to be in a position to have to worry about this kind of stuff.

I think the SciFi chanel has improved a little since the mistake it made with Sliders.

They seem to have handled the Stargate stuff all right. I was REALLY impressed with the Battlestar Galactica miniseries they did (can you say Firefly tech crew?)

I think if they concidered and made Firefly a core piece of the network programing (and you know it would get decent respect from them) it could lead a very productive and happy life there.

Not saying I know for sure, just something to concider.

The Scifi channel has done an excellent job with Stargate SG-1 (which is one of my favorite scifi series). I believe they didn't change anything when they moved to the SciFi channel, i believe they still film in Vancouver and have the same team.

Don't squat with your spurs on.

You're right SciFi is doing a good job with Stargate. If Firefly could get the same treatment it would be great.

Heres some... other concerns...

I am betting you all loved Farscape? Well farscape was bring in the ratings, but someone over at sci-fi canned it cause of 'lack of imporvement in the ratings' and 'we want to go in another direction'.

Now those aren't real quotes, just what I remember from when farscape was canceled (they could be a lil broken in fact, so if they are please tell me :P).

Now, I know the people over at Sci-Fi want to cover all the sci-fi aspects. They might, however, be a lil iffy on bringing in another space-advture.

You have to look at it this way, they have Stargate SG-1, and soon the spin-off (Bad with spelling.. errrrggg so I won't try :P), and theres hope for a Battle Star Galactica series as well. I don't know how much Sci-Fi will want to have three shows (even with the slightess of difference :P).

Oh I want them too.. I just got to say my two cents on the subject.

Oh, and for those of you that haven't seen "tripping in the Rift" net movie, I suggest you check it out.

WARNING... THIS IS MORE OR LESS A MATURE SHOW SO IF YOU ARe TOO YOUNG, GET YOUR PARENT'S PERMISSON FIRST!!

Nope. Not really. It was okay, but if I missed an episode it was no biggie. It just never grabbed my interest.

Not really sure why they would not want Firefly since it has proven it can make money in DVD sales, and if the movie racked in money, I could see no reason to pass on the show. Sci Fi has been putting out a lot of programming that doesn't seem too Sci Fi to me. Like last nights "Dark Waters" w/ Lorenzo Lamas. What the heck was that garbage? Octopus II? Seems they are scrounging for programming that is remotely "sci fi" just to fill out time slots.

The spin off is Stargate Atlantis, which Adam Baldwin has said he is up for one of two roles on the show. If it is done as well as Stargate: SG1, I am certain I will like it. The important thing is it is actual Sci Fi, unlike some of the more questionable stuff Sci Fi has been airing of late.

I liked the Battlestar Galactica mini series Sci Fi ran, though I admit I watched it w/ some reservations due to some of the sex swapping of some of the main characters. I am hoping it gets picked up as a regular series.

SPECTRE

I was pondering this at work today.
I don't want to see Firefly revived. I mean as it stands now it is perfect. Everything in it was honed to a razor sharp finish, and all of the energy put into it makes it stands out technically, and artisticly. Every ep was made as if it were going to be the lst one and there were no compromises.
If it were to come back I am concerned what would have to give to be brought back into production. I am sure Joss would pretect it as much as he could but something somewhere would have to give.
Relying on SciFi to do it would be an abohernt mistake. The have done all right by Stargate but that is about it. Ever since Vivendi the parent orgaisation that owns USA, then by trickle the SFC,went int Chpater 11 it seems that everything that has been done has been to drive away fans and bury the network. There is a clause in the Vivendi ownership rights that who ever buys the company has to maintain USA and SciFi.
I am working off of memory here because it was in the Wall Street Journal article I read last year.
BS Galactica was horrible. Re-Imagining something is in my own taste demostrates a lack of imagination, or getting the chance and/or budget to see to fruitaiton the "If I could have done it this way..."
Farscape after it was brought back had lost the ensamble joy that it had before it was saved. When it came back it was the John Criton Story, and that is what I am afraid of most that would happen to Firefly.
Firefly will never be gone as long as I have the DVD's clutched firmly in my grasp.

There's no way Joss would sign with a network unless they gave him exclusive creative control.

OOOOOH NOOOOOOOOO...

Bonnie Hammer (SciFi Prez) is a yutz! She wants to make SciFi more of a fantasy/horror channel.

'Scuse me, Bonnie, the title of the channel is SciFi ... not SciFiFanHor.

Firefly would wilt under her 'tender care' or Joss would commit murder/death/kill.

Farscape???? HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHA. Whoo, thats a good one. The idea at the very start was good, I got a few episodes in and then was completely bored out of my skull. Muppets in space. Thats all it boiled down to for me. I tuned in two years later and what did I see? A loony toons combo episode of the show. I rest my case.

Farscape is not in the same league or ballpark as Firefly. I can kind of understand now why Joss wanted only humans, but I do miss the occasional alien, but not to the extent that I want muppets on floating chairs in my sci fi. Whoooooo, man, gotta stop laughing.

SHADOWKATE

*Steps on to Soapbox*

I enjoyed Farscape, but I happen to agree that I would rather have Firefly not brought back then brought back to Scifi.

Farscape is only one of couple of Scifi mismanagement. Another one was First Wave (one of the few shows on Scifi that wasn't anything in space/trying to get home/b-rated horror/b-rated sci-fi/remaking another show or movie), SciFi waited so long to commit that the European backers backed out.

Farscape was canceled to free up the budget for Tremors and BS Galattica (or at least that is what the rumor is). This was after a media blitz to promote the 5th season.

The other issue is that Scifi rarly markets there stuff anywhere else then on the scifi channel. Which means very low ratings (almost nothing gets more then a 3.0 or so and most barily hit 1.0) which opens the door for cancelation *again*

I wasn't big on Farscape. It's OK, but the aliens were beyond silly and the stories often went for weird and impact rather than plot. I wasn't terribly upset when it went away other than the fact that it was replaced with luh se.

Battlestar Galactica should have proven that SciFi can revive a real science fiction series and do a good job with updating it. Gender swapping? I was more ticked off that Boomer is a Cylon than I was about Starbuck and Boomer being women. Stargate SG-1 is another example, and is a rare case where the series is MUCH better than the original flick. (Buffy is another such case.)

So long as Jos retains creative and executive control I don't care on what network a revived Firefly airs, so long as the story continues where it left off.

I saw the pilot ep of Farscape, and watched a couple from the first season. Struck me as being a bit Star Trek-y.

See, I'm not a big fan of science fiction, only becuase I don't consider it a genre. It takes more than cool futuristic shit to entertain me. 'Firefly' had action, comedy, and drama; shows like 'Star Trek' lack all three.

What is up w/ the reality garbage on Sci Fi?!?

First off, we have that Scare Tactics garbage w/ Shannen "I can't act and will take any job for food" Doherty. I can't believe this waste of air time is still on Sci Fi. It is horrible. Notice how you never heard anything more about the lawsuit the tirl from the very first episode filed against Sci Fi channel? Guess they paid out of court and swept it under the rug.

What is with this new "reality" series they have coming out, "Mad, Mad House". What has this got to do w/ science fiction? A vampire wannabe, a self proclaimed Wiccan, a masochist w/ hooks in his body, a so called "voodoo priestess", and a nudist??? What the heck is wrong w/ the execs at Sci Fi?

Well that would certainly explain things. What with the "reality" -dren- "tv". And the not so much creative and very irritating Tremors. Again MAKE IT STOP!!! PLEASE DEAR GOD!!!

Other than SGC I can't watch SciFi any more. It just pains me too much. Batelstar was the exception. then again they sucked you in with the hope that there would be somthing good then they crushed you under their heal when they made the gorramme thing so short. They do that a lot over there.

Perhaps it is all an experiment to see how many times they can lure you in with the hope of good SciFi, (or at least somthing that is remotly entertaining) take it all away from you then do it all over again before we all crack and are hauled off to teh funny farm.

Well... I'll admit I'm getting a fair bit tired of Stargate SG-1 because it's getting a fair bit repetitive. I'm hoping Stargate Atlantis breathes some life into it, and I will give that a try.

Battlestar Galactica was a four hour pilot. If it did well (which it did) it would surely become a series. If not, no. Remember the original Babylon 5 movie? Same plan. When the series comes to SciFi I will surely give it a chance. Maybe if it gets good ratings and the current crop of luh se doesn't SciFi will change directions again. The best way to see that Tremors and Scare Tactics get sent to reclamation is to ignore them and watch what's worth watching.

For Firefly to come back some greedy meh tah mah duh hwoon dahn network exec will have to have visions of dollar signs floating in front of him (or her) and have to figure that bringing back Firefly will deliver the goods.

Yeah, we all hate Fox. We think SciFi is awful. You know what? I don't care which network brings back Firefly as long as Jos has creative and executive control.

Now, how do we make them see dollar signs? Assume they are all as mercenary and ruthless as Niska (hence my choice of Chinese quotes). The only good news is that they won't torture Jos to death if Firefly fails again.

I used to watch the old Battlestar Galactica when I was a kid. Looking back, though...they weren't very good. The promos for the miniseries looked pretty cool - the miniseries itself was merely alright. It had a few cool bits, like when the 'president' ditched the no-FTL-drive ships, just before they all blew up...that was pretty cool. The guy that sees that woman...kinda strange, but could be interesting.

I'll give the show a chance.

OK, I'm going to give away my age here, but...

I was at university when Battlestar: Galactica came out. We used to gather around in the commons where they had the big color TV sets and watch it and make fun of it every week. There was just so much to make fun of, don't ya know?

The original Battlestar had some good ideas and a handful of really good episodes. It also had a lot of high camp.

True story: we were watching the premier, the movie, when it was interrupted to announce the Camp David peace agreement between Egypt and Israel. The folks watching booed the news coverage because it interrupted Galactica. I couldn't believe it. History was being made and these supposedly very bright kids at a very expensive and well regarded university booed because they'd rather watch escapist science fiction.

I don't know why Battlestar: Galactica has such a loyal and devoted following. Seems to me that I buy 1960s Doctor Who episodes in glorious black and white on DVD so who am I to judge? Nobody is ever going to say the flying saucers in "Dalek Invasion of Earth" are convincing, are they?

The only point being, Farscape lasted several years, and turned out some real quality episodes year on year. Sure, I can't think of a series that has hit the ground running quite so well as Firefly (scratch that, West Wing springs to mind), but who knows whether it would have lasted (how many Heart of Golds would have turned up?).

In response to other posts, I recall that part of the reason for Farscape's cancellation was the huge cost - it looked fantastic, but the cost must have been huge. Stargate SG1 somehow survives, proving that life is unfair, because it is cheap compared to what it brings in.

Hey - I'd have never gotten to see a fifth season of B5 if they didn't keep it on budget year in year out (I think sometimes we forget that Buffy, Angel et al don't bring in the viewers of CSI and the like, but because of the effects may cost as much or more - at least until ego and salary begin their exponential curve)
