In the BDM, after Mal so "rudely" interrupted the operative, he was going tell Mal what his sin was. What do you think it would have been had he been able to say it?

I'd have to agree with Mal and say wrath. He carries a lot of anger inside of him, and some of that has given way to hatred, especially of the Alliance.

I think several of them could fit...

But, if I had to pick one, I think the Operative would have said his sin was pride, just like the other guy. I think he sees Mal as endlessly proud of himself and his fellow Browncoats (despite their losses) for standing up to the Alliance, proud of himself and his crew for escaping and defying the Alliance so often, proud of the crew for uncovering the Miranda secret and working so hard to broadcast it everywhere... and so on. I think he would tell him that he's too proud of the whole independence movement when he shouldn't be (in the Operative's view).

Awesome question idea! I can't wait to see everyone's response to this.

Definately pride. Thinking you are capable of the impossible has a lot to do with pride.

And listen to the commentary. According to Joss, it's always pride. The Operative sees it everywhere.

Op: You're fighting a war you've already lost.
Mal: Yeah, well I'm known for that.

I can't pinpoint any of the typical seven. But let's stretch the list...how about stubbornness, not in general from our point of view, but from the Operative's point of view - Mal is stubborn about keeping River away from the Alliance, and as a result people die. Kind of stretched, but from the Operative's point of view, that could be a sin of Mal's.

Besides all the others anyway.

Hi MSG,
I agree with you about anger being Mal's sin. He is angry with God for letting all of his soldiers die, he is angry with the Alliance for winning when they weren't the "right" cause, he was angry at Jayne for attacking "him" when he attacked his crew. He was angry at the Operative for holding Inara hostage and for his relentless pursuit of River. I think in a way he is angry with Inara because her being a whore (excuse me a companion) places her out of his reach. Have a shiny day! Elaine
