There is no single event which has more profoundly and deeply changed me than the time I've had with my son.
Heres what your husband should expect -
Pregancy isnt nearly as bad for the husband as the wife, however...
If complications should arise, he's johnnie on the spot - as happened a month before my son was born and my wife developed a severe case of preeclampsia - one of the few things that still kills women in childbirth. I was the guy making the medical decisions at that point.
The first 3 months of the kids life are hard on parents, because the child doesnt give anything back - he eats, sleeps (rarely), poops, and howls. For three months.
My boy laughed at me for the first time at the end of 3 months, and I was lost.
Teething - get a book called "The Happiest Baby on the Block". This will alow you and the baby to sleep. This is the greatest single book ever writen.
Get used to unpleasant biological things getting on pretty much every square cm of your body.
Remember that every little thing, from rolling over to talking, is a first, and should be treated as the triumph it is.
My kid is amazingly sweet tempered and kind - for a 3 year old - and the key to success:
A lot of carrot and a little stick. Praise often, punish occationally - time-outs work well for my boy. Lead by example - you want your child to say please and thank you - you gotta say it too. The rules apply to everyone; heres the logic behind no spanking - you cant tell your child "no hitting other people" and then spank him for it. And if daddy does something against the rules, he gets a time-out too.

Fatherhood is the single best thing thats ever happened to me. I love that boy more than my own life.

"Don't put your trust in revolutions. They always come around again. That's why they're called revolutions. People die, and nothing changes." -Terry Pratchett "Night Watch"

A little advice for the people with the little people from our friends at CSN&Y

ARTIST: Graham Nash
TITLE: Teach Your Children
Lyrics and Chords

You who are on the road
Must have a code that you can live by
And so become yourself
Because the past is just a good-bye

/ C - F - / C - G - / :

Teach your children well
Their father's hell did slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams
The one they pick's the one you'll know by

Don't you ever ask them why
If they told you, you would cry
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you

/ C - F - / C - / Am - F G / C - F G /

And you of tender years Can't know the fears
That your elders grew by
And so please help
Them with your youth They seek the truth
Before they can die

Teach your parents well
Their children's hell will slowly go by
And feed them on your dreams
The one they pick's the one you'll know by

Don't you ever ask them why
If they told you, you would cry
So just look at them and sigh
And know they love you

Why am i just instantly thinking of some sex ed video they might have shown teen boys in the fifties?

'..and remember chaps, a clean pickle...'

oh, and reposted, cause i had to -

Oh, SpaceAnjl - i had to laugh when you mentioned your husband and you bonding over Half Man Half Buscuit.

only my boss is one of the band, and to think of him,(the man who regales anyone whole listen with tales of his favorite movies, Zulu and The Wickerman and all of the strippers therein, and can regularly be heard singing the lyrics to very rude marching army/navy ditties) then imagine someone bonding over it is... surreal to say the least.

Last time i shared music with anyone, it was Tori Amos - and now he's hopelessly addicted, in return he got me addicted to White Rose Movement - an electropop or whatever band from london - which he sent to me not because he new i liked that kind of music, but because its his brothers band. I'm still glad.

I remember many happy hourse spent with my playlists on in the back ground - stuff like the cure, old punk bands (the clash sex pistols (thought they're not so romantic) stranglers etc) and other bands like the who, bowie elton john kate bush and echo and the bunnymen and 80's pop, mixed in with newer chillies foo's and radiohead - it was great, everysong had an association or prompted a memory, and on the rare occasions we had nothing to talk about, we had the music - plus there was the one time with the very eventful pillow fight and, ahem, stuff, set to a soundtrack of led zep and NIN.

Nothing beats good old rock for that sort of thing... apart from Massive Attacks Mezzanine album - to this day we remain convinced that they made that album from under the covers.

Now, This one had to be bought out and shown to the world.
Everybody - say thank you Arcadia.

Congrats on the decision to download a tricycle motor! Adding to the Browncoat ranks can be done by many methods, but that one has to be one of the funnest. Have good sex!

As far as the guilty pleasure TV, I have a Laserdisc player and all of the "Golden Age of Looney Tunes" sets, the "Art of Tom and Jerry" sets, several other various animated single disc sets, etc. It may be very old school, but you can't get the uncut versions of those cartoons anymore, and the non-"PC" ones will probably not ever be reissued(try getting Disney to admit they made Song of the South, even though it had the first non-animated Black actor in Disney history).

In general, if something gets enough buzz from my friends who have opinions I trust, I will go ahead and buy the DVD if I can. Lately funds have been kind of tight, though

So who is he?
He's my husband.

If you have access to a Laserdisc player, there is a disc that was released in Japan. It will play in English and only subtitles the songs. Otherwise, it is available on the PAL format in the UK. I got mine off of eBay, of course.

I read somewhere that "Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah" was Disney's most recognized or famous song. I don't know if that is still the case, but it's funny that the movie it came from can't be found in the country it was made in.

Even though the movie itself is not PC, the stories about Brer Rabbit and company are wonderful.

There's a ride in both Disneyland and Disney World (and possibly in France and Tokyo as well, honestly don't know) based entirely on the Brer Rabbit stories, complete with quite a bit of "Zippidy Doo Dah" being sung. It's called Splash Mountain, one of the more popular rides in my experience. It is a bit odd that you can't get Song of the South anymore, but the song and the stories seem to be living on in a new form.

Btw, where did you get the Tom and Jerry episodes? Hubby is a huge fan of the old (non PC) T&Js.

CK, I got most of my discs off of eBay. The Tom and Jerry ones are unedited (in other words, sometimes the ladies legs are brown and she talks with an exaggerated dialect). Set one is on eBay more often than set two, and I have only seen Set three out there when I bought it.

When Ted Turner bought the rights to the cartoons, they went through them and recolored the legs Caucasian and dubbed over the dialogue. Of course, this is the same group of people who won't show "Speedy Gonzales" cartoons, either.

Um, what about this Song of the South? I know Uncle Remus, I know the song, but I can't say I've seen anything about "Song of the South"...
Oh wait; it bothered people because of the portrayal of slavery not being so bad, right? Or something.
Yes, I've always known the song, never knew what it was from. And I have a book of Uncle Remus stories and I've seen animated versions of them somewhere or other.

Fellow imponderers, answer me this; How should I respond to someone on a dating site who messages me with "You and I should run off together and get married!"? My off-the-cuff response would be "I don't believe in marriage." He doesn't sound like a bad guy (his age isn't accurate, though, and he lives pretty far away. I've done the "dating in Denver" thing too many times...) but I'm just not sure how or if I should even respond.

What pisses me off is that these sites don't generally have "Pagan" as an option when selecting your religion, so my profile just says "other" which is really kinda stupid and lame. I could have said "Buddhist" but I'm only a little bit Buddhist and would honestly come off as almost ignorant if a lifelong, hard-core Buddhist started talking about it. I'm pretty sure I'm wearing a pentacle in my picture, but maybe it's hard to tell what it is.

Yummy but heavy. I had a craving for "pigs in a blanket" (hot dogs wrapped in biscuit dough and baked) and tomato soup, which is something my mom used to make when I was a kid. So I went online and found a simple recipe for biscuit dough that I had all the ingredients for, and started making it. When I was mixing the milk in, I realized that if I put hot dogs with the dough, it wouldn't be kosher (no meat and dairy at the same time). I've been working on keeping kosher, and I'm generally pretty good about it at home (not so good outside of the home, but I'm working on it), so bah, no hot dogs. So I made four gloppy biscuits instead (the recipe made more than I thought it would!) and cooked them up. They were yummy, and with the tomato soup more or less fulfilled my craving.

And that's fairly lame for them not to have a Pagan option. A picture of you with your pentacle would probably be a fairly clear hint to those who know.

So what's happening with Sushi Boy?

Well, my picture on this particular site looks like this:

Don't know if someone not in the know can tell what the thing around my neck is.

Right now I'm giving Sushi Boy some tips on how to make his website a little less eye-searing. We've gone back to talking about graphics, you see. He's now asked what I've done so I told him about my photobucket account since that's basically the only place all (or most of) my graphic art is. We'll see if he thinks I have skillz. No sushi as of yet.

Hmmm, yeah, since I know what it is I can tell what it is, if that makes sense, but I don't think it would clue most people in. At most you might get a question about it, I think. If you cropped that picture closer on your head and shoulders, would the pentacle be more visible?

So does Sushi Boy seem to have a soul? So many of the guys on dating sites are just so... odd. It'd be awesome if you found one who is actually human -- and who likes sushi and graphic design!

Would you ever consider asking him out to sushi? Or are you more of a traditionalist?

I don't know i i could cope with keeping kosher - from what i've read, they way they treat the animals, and slaughter them, is way better than standard western practices, but no meat with dairy? Could'nt do that.

Of course, now all my favorite meals that are non kosher are sitting on the edge of my brain going 'haha, you ain't remembering what we are..' but nevermind.

Its just a good thing i'm allergic to religion.

MsG, MisterG, you will make wonderful parents, but i can hear the cries for the next four years no - Bregan (is that the name?) put down the brulee torch! mommys best pans are not toys! Put down the toast and step away from daddy's stereo equipment! no sweetie, daddy doesn't want to listen to the tweenies album again, can't you put some Slayer on?

ah, domestic bliss. And take heart, i can't do children, but myu neice turned out great despite close and prolonged contact with me, so you will be great!

Fancy another lodger? Infact, think you could maybe put another wing on the house and we'd all move in and pay you rent?

My best friend, did i tell that story? Just got intouch, after years, and wants to talk again.
i'm still a little annoyed at her, but the fact that she got in touch with me helps enourmously.

should i drop the issues and carry on as we were before?

i'm thinking 'hell yes' but hmmmm.

Oh, i think my interview went ok. i'll tell you all tonight, it was quite amusing actually, or i'll blog it and you can laugh. (a wee bit)

Well, that's a good question. I might at some point say "We should go get some sushi!" but there are two concerns I have about that. The first is, if I ask, do I have to pay for the whole thing? The other is, if I ask too soon, do I come off as really desperate? (maybe that's his concern, too...)
Yes, many guys on these sites are odd. And I've found some truly enraging and disgusting ads (My favorite was "seeking clean, disease-free girl for sex behind my girlfriend's back" ) but so far he does seem to have a soul. Probably. He talks about his website a lot, so I wonder if he just wants to talk about that or actually meet people. It can be so hard to tell.
I might try cropping my picture. I just didn't want anyone thinking I had something to hide in the waist area, ya know?

Also I am really not fond of my chin. I think it's too big and looks strange in pictures. So I don't know if I want to zoom in on that area...
