FIRE*FLY*GAS*M (fi er fa lie gaz im)1) The scene, moment or 'still' in Firefly that made you involuntarily go WHOOOOO! or Jump Up and Cheer or just plainly GOTCHA in some manner.

MINE
"Train Robbery" - where the bound Niska's "Oddjob" Crow (finally found the name, DOH) give Mal the "I'll hunt you down and shoot you like a duck" () and Mal seems disappointed then BOOTS Crow into the port engine!

BTW: 'Fireflygasm" coined (I believe) by 'SteveD:The Exalted of Tangency' on this site ...

Gotta go with 'Trash'.

Simon (to Jayne): Just know that when you're on this table, I'll always do my job. I'm going to trust you; I hope you'll afford me the same treatment. That's the only way this is going to work.

[exit Simon]
Then River leans in: "Also...I can kill you with my brain."

Man, was that funny...

My favorite moment in the series, though, is the very very end. Er..the end of OiS, not Firefly, heh, heh.

With the marble, and "I can win this", and "I'm hearing a lot of talk there genius..."
Then she drops it, and the camera goes down...and I love the music in the back...and then the ship flies off. If you turn the sound up high enough, it's real cool, because you can hear the engine in the backround when River and Kaylee are together, then it cuts off when the camera hits space. The -Joss Whedon- comes up, and they play that chord again...friggin' awesome. Great way for the show to end. Err...take a breif intermission, before becoming a movie, and then a television series again. Of course.

SEVENPERCENT

I have a few, but tops has got to be in War Stories- When Mal gets up off the torture table (after the crew attacks), hits the guard with the torture device, then slaps Niska- When Mal asks Niska if he wants to see the real him now, it's like I want to stand up and go "whoop his ASS!!!!!" -

Second would have to be with Patience, when Mal tells her to have fun running her little world- She stabs him in the back but he's ready for her, and tops it off by getting the last dig in at her expense with her own quote-

------------------------------------------
He looked bigger when I couldn't see him.

Eek, there's so many!

One of the ones not mentioned was in Serenity when Jayne is interrogating the Fed, Dobbes (i think that's his name).

The first bit, 'Pain is scary...'; then the end, 'Awww, you don't know nothin'... it's all over your face... don't they teach you nothin' about resisting torture in Fed school?'

Was just a great moment for Jayne.

HUMBLE

GOTCHA MOMENT-At the start of Bushwacked. When Wash went to check out a loud bang, sat down in his chair on the Bridge, and all the sudden a dead body hits the view port in front of him. He lets out a yell and I jumped in my seat, heart pounding. That's the first time I've ever been "GOTCHA'd" by a tv show.

Woah!: War Stories, River takes out 3 badguys, 3 shots, less than a second. Awesome but really creepy.

Cheering!: Serenity, Blasting off from Whitefall. I think Jayne sums it up best when he said "WOOOOHOOO!!"

Gotcha!: Heart of Gold, Inara telling Mal that she's leaving. That defintely wasn't what you expect her to say at that point.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

There are a ton of them. Here are a few, in no particular order:

- Bushwacked when the body hits the cockpit glass. That caused me to jump in my chair.

- Serenity when Mal walks into the cargo bay, draws, shoots Dobson in the head, holsters his gun & keeps walking. I laughed so hard I thought I was going to fall out of my chair.

- Our Mrs Reynolds when Book gives the "special Hell" speech.

- War Stories when Mal gets loose, jams the torture device into the flunky's back, then punches Niska and asks if he wants to "meet the real me".

For me, the moment that Firefly went from just a great TV show to the best TV show ever is the one captured in my avatar/tagline. "No power in the 'verse can stop me."

Going back to the series premiere, while I was watching The Train Job, I have to admit I almost didn't give Firefly a 2nd chance until the end, when 1) Mal kicked the guy into the engine, and 2) the exchange between Mal and the sheriff, when Mal says "I don't believe he does." Those two scenes sold the series for me.

Of course, there are many, many others, but the ones I mentioned were the ones most influential to me.

The response to this thread just proves how GREAT this show is!

So many Fireflygasm moments ... for me, there are maybe a dozen of 'em in each episode. Janyne or Wash is usually the culprits ... but everybody else has many of theirs as well.

ANOTHER FAVORITE
In "TRASH" when Jayne is on the exam table with the cervical collar on ... the speech Simon gives was one of the best monologues in the series - for me. Looks like it is going in one direction, then you learn the depth of Simon's honor and Dedication to the philisophy of his craft.

And Jayne's "spine?!" bits ... waaay too funny ... all the way to Jayne's "anybody there?" and when River reveals that it is her, Jaynes strains out "Anybody else"

The final bit and perfect coda to that scene - River "I can kill you with my brain ... and Jayne's look of fear was bee-u-t-ful.

Have fun... next fun thread we need to start ... Firefly 'In-Jokes' ... find all the referances to other shows or movies and posting yer fav's.

There are too many to choose from, but I've narrowed it down to my top 3 (hopefully I wont remember any I like better than this after I post). In no particular order:

1) The moment in Bushwacked when Mal turns and sees River looking up, then it panns up to the bodies.

2) The second time Book says "The Special Hell" with just his head around the corner.

3) 8 words: No power in the 'verse can stop me.

Those who restrain desire, do so because theirs is weak enough to be restrained.

I'm going to go with Out Of Gas and Mal suggesting to Wash to divert more power from one technical thing to another, and then Wash, still kinda stubborn about it but already realizing Mal is right, goes, "Well, I'll go and do that then!"

Way too many to choose from.

So, i'll go with the one that hooked me to FF in the first place. The beginning of the Train Job, when Cap, Zoe and Jayne are standing on the edge of the ravine and Serenity "whooshes" into the scence, up behind them...I just felt this rush in my stomach telling me I was going to love everything about this show.

Creepy moment: Bushwhacked, When the "survivor" suddenly appears behind Jayne.....aaaah!

It's the small moments that really bowl me over in this show.

The exchange between Mal asks Jayne why he didn;t turn on him and Jayne (forgive me if I'm not verbatim here)replies:

"I guess the money just wasn;t good enough" and Mal says "What happens when it is"

Jayne: "That'll be an interesting day"

----

The moment that got me hooked from Train Job when I first watched it on Fox was in the bar fight when Zoe calls for Jayne's help.

His reply "I wasn't in no war, best of luck though..."

I knew the entire tone right from there and was ... As they say suckered in.

Two moments for me:

1. In 'Serenity' when Mal tells Simon that Kayle has died. He finds her and she gives him this really cute wave.

2. This may be a bit lame but the bit in the dogfight at the end of 'Serenity' when the camera zooms in on the Reever ship. Best special effect ever and it feels so real and original.

Mal: "Say that to my face."
Ugly Alliance Dude: "I said you're a coward and a piss-pot. What're you gonna do about it?"

Ugly dude turns to meet the butt of Zoe's rifle across the face.

Oh let me count the ways...Mal shooting the Fed while walking back onto Serenity. No pause, no hesitation. Just---BAM!---let's go people.
Mal & Wash in "War Stories": Wash tells Mal to name one time Zoe disobeyed an order and without missing a beat Mal says "She married YOU!"
Jayne's "Chain of command" line.
There are lots of little moments that shine.

But my favourite, the one that gets me every time I see it, is at the end of "Ariel", when Simon is about to give River some medicine he hopes will help bring her back to her old self. River says, "Time to go to sleep." and Simon tenderly says "No, Mei-mei...it's time to wake up."
That wasn't a "Woooh-hooo!" moment.
It was an "Ah..."
It gives me goose-bumps even typing it.

I love the "bastard" line, but the one that did it for me was,

"You wanna meet the real me, now?"

Because it sums up Mal SO well. This is a man who isn't empty on the inside - he's full of emotions that he refuses to show. He went from being an idealistic person, to a man who is bitter and cynical and just tired of fighting...he's willing to just get by. That moment, in my opinion, is the closest we come to seeing all of Mal's anger and resentment coming to the surface. We finally see what he is truly capable of, and it's a little scary. Alan Tudyk owned that episode, but Nathan Fillion brought so much to it with just that line.

Yet another of my favorites too!

That is a GOTCHA moment, not a surprise/shock but a great scene or delevery of a line that invokes a strong feeling in a person just by watching it.

There are so many i dunno which to pick - i really like the "no its not!" in war stories, most of the scene at the end of trash where mal is casually talking to everyone about a job well done (naked), and the one where he shoots the fed.

When he sees Saffron in 'Trash', and they both pull guns on each other, and the guy sez "You, uh, know each other?" is a great one i'm suprised no one picked.

I think one of the best scenes (no particular moment) is when Mal smacks jayne then has that whole betrayal speech - you see a lot about both of them.

And of course, i hang on everything in every part of what River says, cause, gorrammit!, I wanna know more about her!

And how they planned to have Inara change her mind back to stay (i hope that was in the plan, cause dumping her would be inexcusable).

PS, i like how the little icons have the "i'm with stupid" sign pointing up to the guy hitting his head on the wall on the side of this reply screen here. *yay off topic*

I could almost include the moment in "War Stories" when Zoe chooses Wash before Niska finishes talking, but I saw that coming. That's a classic Whedon cliche-breaker. It was still good, though.

Kicking Crow into the turbine! And then the next guy "Oh we're right there with you... best for everyone!" I was SO there for that scene! YES, FINALLY some intelligent characters on TV!

My tagline--
"... and if your hand touches metal, I swear by my pretty floral bonnet I will end you."

Saffron giving Mal the "plow" speech and his response, "Whoa, good bible." And Book and "The Special Hell."

"No power in the 'verse can stop me!"

"You wanna go, little man?" "Only if it's someplace with candlelight."

"She's in congress with the Beast." "She's in congress?"

How about ALL of EVERY episode.

It's all good.
