During the run that the show had,a very short time, everyone interacted with each other, but there were some that seemed, if the show had gone on, would have made for very interesting dynamics.

For instance, say, Simon and Inara. They really don't fit in well with the crew, and their conversations were few, and it seemed their manners were a good bridge for them. I would have liked seeing if their relationship would have deepened, not in a romantic way of course, but to a very trusting bond. A couple of points, it seemed she could have almost been to him like he is to River. Sometimes even the big brother needs a big sister.

Course, could just be me.
Interested to hear if anybody else thinks other characters needed more time together.

You look better in red.

Inara in general seemed to establish herself as the kinda "big sister" role to everyone on the ship, almost a maternal relationship. You see it first in serenity when she lays her hands on book to calm him, and again when she is brushing kaylee's hair. I think thats where part of the conflict between Mal and Inara stems from...that both have almost parental positions on the ship, but opposite methods. Mal is ever the motivating commander...gruff at times but no question he'd die for his crew. Inara is the motherly, understanding comforter, but her love is as deep as Mal's for the Serenity.

Sorry for the rant :) any comments appreciated.

Great observations, Rekka, about the father/mother dynamic going on with Mal & Inara.

I would have loved to see more screentime with Jayne and "little Kaylee". It would have been cool to see it evolve from an adolescent crush (which I think Jayne has for her) to a protective brother/sister kind of thing. It would have been cool to see that relationship go the way of the Spike/Dawn dynamic they had on Buffy S5.

I liked the Jayne/Book friendship. Two guys, working out,one a merc, the other a preacher. Definately Odd Couple material (and I DON'T mean slash - nasty stuff, that)

yeah Ive got to agree I thought the jayne/book pairing was the strangest and potentially one of the most interesting.

That is an interesting pairing, although I am still haunted by what River saw in Book during OiS...

You know, the relationship that I keep wondering about is the one that I'm not even sure IS a relationship, sorta - Inara and Zoe. I mean to re-watch my DVDs in the upcoming weeks, and watch specifically for Inara/Zoe interaction - I can't think of too many instances where they even talk to each other, unless it's a total group thing - like when Zoe shows everyone Mal's ear.

Anyone remember any instances where those two ever had a real conversation?

That's true...they don't seem to have a relationship at all. The only instance I recall is in Trash.

Gotta go with the Book/Jayne thing as my favorite. It seems like such an unlikely match, yet their being together feels so natural. They're both single men, the only two on the ship, really. They work out a lot...and, uh...Jayne likes to eat & Book likes to cook. So, I guess it kinda makes sence...

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I was really starting to find the Jayne/Book thing interesting myself. Very cool how they were working out together, and during OiS they were sitting in the dining room talking to one another like old friends.

The Mal/Inara thing would be interesting to follow to see where it leads, as would the Simon/Kaylee relationship.

I would also like to see more of the Kaylee/River relationship and how it would be affected by Kaylee's seeing River in action during War Stories. They seemed okay at the end of OiS, but I don't think Kaylee dismissed her fear and concern so easily.

There is still ground to explore between Mal & Wash. After what they went through together in War Stories, I think that Mal & Wash would have a new respect for one another, and a foundation for a friendship.

The great thing about Firefly is that /every/ relationship still has so much ground to cover, so much history to reveal, and so much future to develop. There's not a single one that has been 'done.'

In particular, I'd like to see how Wash fits with most the crew. We really only see him with Zoe and Mal and in group scenes (can anyone recall another?). Though he does go out of his way to mock Jayne in said scenes. But I'd love to see how he interacts with Inara, Kaylee, and the newcomers, beyond the surface information we get.

I definately agree with those wanting to see more Jayne-Book and Jayne-Kaylee. We had a lot of little moments that hint at something really cool.

Every time I type one up, I think of three more I want to list, so I'm gonna stop here - mostly, I just want MORE. More Firefly, more development, more building of that family. MORE, you hear, MORE!
