Ok....I've been looking. There are san Francisco browncoats, sandiego browncoats, Texas....ETC. I cant find any Browncoat groups in Philadelphia, the Philadelphia area, Northeast...Etc. ARE THERE ANY ORGANIZED BROWNCOAT GROUPS AROUND HERE?!? If so...tell me where, If not tell me so I can start one. Ya know members, groups, calendars, events ETC.

....Unless this is something not needed, I mean I could expand it to the tristate area. I just feel kind of secluded here in Philadelphia. PLEASE let me know with yea's or nay's if this is a good idea. I have a shiny logo figured out and everything... (Philadelphia is the home of independence...) WE NEED A BROWNCOAT GROUP!!!!! ...And I wouldnt mind starting and leading it.

Grayfury,
You're not alone in Philadelphia, but it doesn't seem like there is an organized local group. I myself live in the northeastern suburbs.

Here are some groups that aren't specific to Philadelphia, but might be of some interest:
http://movies.groups.yahoo.com/group/Midatlanticbrowncoats/

http://tv.groups.yahoo.com/group/PA_browncoats/

Keep checking fireflyfans.net and http://www.brynmawrfilm.org/ for news of a midnight Serenity show in the Fall at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute. They screened it in February and supposedly may do so again around the end of September. Their manager, Ben, is a browncoat. Back in April Firefly was shown over several weeks at the Indian Valley Public Library in Telford, north of the city, and a good little group turned out for that as well. So again, at least we're not alone.

Ooooooooh, you do??? When's the next one?? (BTW, weren't you the one who came to Moonlight Rising in the Ariel paramedic get-up?)

I live in Lansdale, work in New Hope. So far as I know, there's no organised Browncoat group hereabouts, although the mini-marathons at a nearby library last spring saw an excellent turnout. And oh man, did you guys see how many people came to the SNEN screening in King of Prussia?!?!

Grayfury, whatever you've got in mind for starting an official group, count me in! I've been trying to strategise my own self, so maybe we can get the ball rolling in this thread? Love to hear some thoughts from the rest of you, too. Philly is long overdue for an official group.

If we generate any more interest here, I'll toss out a few ideas. Here's hopin'!

I'm in Exton. Earlier this year there was a midnight movie showing of Serenity at the Bryn Mawr Film Institute. One of the guys who works there is a Browncoat and set it all up. We had 120 people or something like that.

Anyway, I'd love to get a local group going.

Thanks alot Misbehavin....That rocks... I did'nt know there was a pa browncoat group, I'm joining today if they'll have me.

And as for sergeantx, steamer, slayer, kaneman and mycroftxxx.... you guys rock too. If you havnt already, join this yahoo group that Misbehavin linked... I'll be there (again, if they'll have me) I'll even host some shindigs.

I did go to the BMFI screening and met Ben (Bentor, right?) I went to the screenings in the library too ...I WANT MORE. Aside from Firefly talk, the signal, and this forum...there's not Too much to keep a browncoat active in the brainpan... It can awful lonely out here in the black.

KAELE

I'm out in Coatesville, Chester County and my mom's in Delaware County.

I'm not far from the 30 bypass/202 and my house is fairly easy to get to, so I'd offer it as a meeting place too. (Long as you guys don't mind the two rugrats. )

I met Steamer at the MR convention.

I'm a member of the PA Browncoats board but haven't checked it lately. Maybe I should go check it some more!

GrayFury, PM me and we can exchange digits and see what we can come up with!

Steamer,

Yup, that was me in the Ariel outfit...and you as Mal, right? Brothers-in-arms, we were, considering there were very few people in costume at Moonlight Rising. Ah well...

The PA Shindig in Harleysville has passed for this year (it was in June), but I can keep you updated. Drop me an email.

I can't believe I missed a screening in King of Prussia in June!!!! Any chance of a repeat in September for the anniversary. I'm from the Philly 'burbs[Wayne] and would love to join a browncoat group. Met some awesome 'coats at Moonlight Rising Con, so I know they're my kind of folk.

w00t, looks like we have more than enough 'Coats around Philly to get something going!!

Kaele, what fond memories I still have of Moonlight Rising and all the shiny folk we shared our fun with. Do you and your mom have any of the videos you took at the Shindigs perchance? What grand old times I wish to relive!

Say, here's an idea...if you live in Coatesville, p'raps we can set up a base of operations there and call it...BROWNCOATESVILLE!!! (No matter what you said, I'm sure we all saw that one coming.)

Slayer730, yup, I was Mal. You know, we missed doing a photo shoot with your husband. He was a terrific Jayne, I'm here to tell you. Now what's this 'happening' you're having on the 28th?

Dalilaba, you went to Moonlight Rising?? Shininess! Did you come to either of the Shindigs or did our paths otherwise cross? I was the guy in the Mal outfit. And still I couldn't catch my breath from laughing at Nathan's antics.

AutumnLeaf, definitely looks like there's a fair lot of us, enough to form a group and start turning the entire tri-state area to the Brown Side!!!

GrayFury, congrats on your imminent marriage! Whenever you get a chance, I think we definitely have the ball rolling fast enough in here to get something started. Not only the posters here, but the folk who came to the Serenity Saturdays at the library in Telford (sab39 can bear me out on that ;)), aaaaaand...

http://community.livejournal.com/fireflyfans/779831.html

Get a load of the turnout in that top pic. Does that tell you anything???

Fellow Philly 'Coats, I have but two words to impart to our worthy cause:

SERENITY NOW!!!!!!

I gotta tell ya people....My cockles are warmed....This is all very shiny. My fiance loves sci-fi and really enjoys Firefly/Serenity, but shes not bat-shit crazy like I am, and of my 3 best friends only 1 likes sci-fi....but his brain is so addled from narcotics that he doesnt "get it" ....he thinks its low budget, and says that Nathan reminds him of brendan frasier ( I almost vomited in my mouth ) So to see so many fellow Browncoats nearby gladens me more than a might. I dont feel so alone anymore. (remember when Mal sees the lights of the other ship come into Serenity's windows in Out Of Gas? ... Kinda like that)

Those shots of the King Of Prussia screening....I think I can see myself on the far right. That was Ginny dressed up as Jayne right?... I dont remember Adams stomach looking that good.

I have no problem at all using the established Yahoo site or sites to get the wheels turning, we can use their calenders to organize some crap. and if anyone else from the yahoo site wants to come to one of my shindigs, I'll be tickled. My place is a might small and my tv not the biggest in the world, but the food would be delicious, the chairs comfortable and the surround sound booming.

*snicker*

Say, weren't you the one I threatened with my plastic pistol, a la Mal vs. Patience?

By the by, here's a point of interest for all you Philly-area BCs: The Firefly showings will be happening again next spring at the Indian Valley Library in Telford. No info on the website as of yet, but I do believe they'll be holding one per month starting in March. Further bulletins as events warrant. Would be ultra shininess to see you all there!

Yes, there surely were a lot of shiny folks there. A mighty fine shindig!

And Steamer made a hell of an entrance the one day as I recall ("Get these bodies together! Put Book front and center...")

I have all intentions of being at the Bryn Mawr showing on the Saturday - I can't make the Friday, unfortunately. Based on what people have said about the turnout last year, though, I'm wondering - anyone have any clue how early to show up to be sure of actually getting a ticket?

Stuart.

I remember the last BMFI screenings ....I was going to go to both shows, however the Saturday show was happening during the blizzard of the decade. So i just went on Friday... It was Rad. Ben was a gracious host and I won some trivia. I remeber the Bodies entrance at the last telford screening. I didnt know that was you Steamer. (Its good to put a face to these posts) I was the one who showed up a little late and had to sit in the back, I disturbed the peace with my ringing cell phone, but not too much, my ringtone is the ballad of Serenity... i'm looking forward to more telford screenings. and as for BMFI's 2 showings, I'll be there.
