Greetings all,

This is my first post, and I plan to stick around.

What I primarily want to talk to you about today is the lack of decent MUD's about Firefly and the 'verse. I have seen some MUX's, which aren't really a game, but a place for god modders to gather... it's really uncontrolled.

I am trying to create a GOOD system of combat, economics, and just plain fun. If you are interested in helping a MUD start up in the 'verse, then stop on by the site, game, or even email me. Not sure what a MUD is? No problem. If you can give insight on how you think a certain planet might look, its citizens act, or even some strange plot you might think about based off of the 'verse.

What is a MUD?
A MUD (Multiple User Dimension, Multiple User Dungeon, or Multiple User Dialogue) is a computer program which users can log into and explore. Each user takes control of a computerized persona/avatar/incarnation/character. You can walk around, chat with other characters, explore dangerous monster-infested areas, solve puzzles, and even create your very own rooms, descriptions and items

Thanks, I have been around to this site for a while, love the series and movie, might get into the comics, although comics were never my thing.

Also, for the one with a good definition of a MUD, where did you get that? That is a great analytical definition of a MUD.

A MU* is really a program that people can log into with your average telnet program or you can download programs such as MudMaster 2000 (mmgui.com) or zMUD/cMUD (zuggsoft.com). Programs other than telnet will make your life on a MUD easier, but I suggest using telnet first, to learn of MUD's.

Yes, that is a MUD is, but in my mind it is SO MUCH MORE. Currently there are 3, if memory serves me right, Firefly MUX's... What's a MUX and is it a MUD? A MUX is a type of MU* (can you tell? lol) Anyhow, a MUX allows a system of combat that is more like your paper and pencil type games. You say what you do, you find out what rolls you need to do, you use the programs dice rolling "subroutine" or function, and it announces who wins. I plan on taking it so much higher. Instead of a paper-and-pencil approach, I'm approaching it like Doom, Morrowind, Oblivion, or Halo 2. Combat system is in place, the dice rolling behind the scenes. However this will allow me to do SO much more. I can program systems for space travel, ship creation (you design it, the system builds it), object creation, and many many combat types, ie melee, ranged, and just plain CHAOTIC.

As in a paper-and-pencil game, RolePlay (RP) is going to be available. Or if you just want to own your own ship and dominate the universe, take over the Alliance and erradicate them, you can try. This is the ultimate game. No limitations except the imagination, which you need to substitute the text with graphics.

That's why a MUD is so great. You can have anything, and not have to look at a limited pixel picture.

Obviously a project like this needs a lot of help, building (creating areas to explore, kill, or take over), player "patrol" to keep players from ruining the fun, quest running, et cetera.

PowerMUD (somewhat dead, hard to learn on your
own, but worth the time for many
unique aspects)
Aetolia/Imperian
(Highly customized MUD's to show what
is possible in a fantasy type MUD.
Anywhere from player run governments
to guilds. Great player helpers,
newbie friendly)

Mudconnect.com has listings of THOUSANDS of MUD's. You can look based on how many players are on the MUD at once, or what you want to do, to the RP. Mudconnect.com also has a lot of tutorials and resources for players and administrators alike.

That was much longer than I intended, please forgive me, but lots of good information in there.

I never get this excited about a project, so I do hope I get some help to get this off the ground.

BTW: There are free MUD's, and pay-2-play. Often, it's not worth paying to playing.

Well there would also be issues with pay-to-play, for this MUD, right? In that you don't have the legal license to make a commercial product off the Firefly/Serenity Intellectual Property? (I'm assuming, since I think it would have been a big announcement if that license had been given out.)

I'm sorry if I gave off the intention of making this MUD a pay to play MUD... I will never make a pay to play MUD, ever!

All MUD's/Simple games will be free and supported by those that wish to donate. This is read as NON-PROFIT. All donations would go to server upkeep, domain name, and other services.

I debate going to rewarding those that donate, as that gives the upper hand to those that can afford it and taking the fun from those that can't. This isn't a likely path for me to follow. It's a long way away before I choose that anyhow.
