So if any one is interested you can see an independent film staring Nathan Fillion and Daniel Baldwin. And allthough Daniel is related to the famous Baldwin family our man who plays Jayne isn't.

Word of advice if you try to rent it since it is an independant film look hard there might only be one copy on the wall or ask the cashier cause this thing is obscure.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Cool!

I will have to swing by the local Blockbuster to see if they have a copy of it in stock.

Well, I went to my local Blockbuster and found they had 3 copies with 2 already out. Hmmm must be more Browncoats around than I thought. Unfortunately, NF isn't featured on the cover which is funny since he's the main character, whatever.

Anyway, I wish that I could say it was a great movie - but I don't like to lie. It was a suspense film with some cool moments, great performance from NF and beautiful BC scenery but, sadly, plot holes you could drive a truck through. For example, in one scene NF says that the cops'll be there any minute and they've gotta go ... but in the next scene he's started a campfire and is burning his latest novel. Ummmm, what? That happened a few times where the script was amped up to increase the dramatic tension but then the next scene totally blew it. It was like they added dialog without considering what happens in the next scene. Too bad really, I wanted to love it.

I would give NF's acting a solid 8 maybe 9 - there were some extremely moving scenes (he's bereaved - not a spoiler - if you didn't figure that out in the first 2 min you're not watching too closely). And he can cry in a very manly yet affecting way - an interesting emotion we never got to see from Mal.

Anyway, that's my 2 cents. It was great to see NF and the acting was generally solid but the plot was pretty weak. Also, they used quite a few cliches and that telegraphed a lot of what was about to happen. Still, I enjoyed it.

I just watched this movie tonight and thought it was rather good. On a scale of F- to A+ I give it a B.Yes there are plot holes but I really didn't notice them until the end. I found the first two thirds of the movie to be nearly perfect but the end third well it lost some of it's realism. But big deal compared to the the plot of most hollywood films the plot held up great because most hollywood films have little plot. And compared to most independent films this is fun most indepenent films are anything but fun. In fact I believe it was Eric Cartman who once said independent films are allways about gay cowboys eating pudding. This of course isn't true, but then again thats exactly how it is! That is if you catch my meaning. This independent film thankfully isn't one of those.

Anyway if you enjoy dark inky human dramas you should enjoy this film. If you don't avoid this film like the plague.

Since I never saw Nathan Fillion in anything else other than this and Firefly I can't be sure. But I suspect Nathan Fillion may have a limited range as an actor. Even though he played a different guy with a different backround he played it just like he played Mal. Not that thats a bad thing Jack Nickleson has made a career of playing the same sort of guy his genius comes from his intensity and passion as an actor not in his range as an actor and I suspect Nathan and Jack may have that in common.

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but I finally got around to ordering in this movie from America and I just wanted to see what everyone else thought.

I thought Nathan Fillion was really good in it but didn't really enjoy the film as it was a bit graphic in places for my taste (but what was I expecting?).

Does anyone know if this was filmed after firefly?

I haven't seen Nathan in much either but I think his character in Two Guys and a girl was played pretty differently - although I agree Mal and his Water's edge character were played similarly (maybe that was what the director wanted/chose him for?). I personally reckon he has a range we haven't seen yet.
Edited: to add Caleb was pretty different too

He was sweet, funny, but slightly dim in Two Guys and a Girl, just brilliant as the wrong Private Ryan, smooth, smug and self satisfied as Adam in Miss Match and totally horrific as Calab (and to my eternal shame I still fancied his socks off!)

HEB "Does anyone know if this was filmed after Firefly?"

It was filmed right after.
