GWEK

Greetings, folks! The latest Virtual Firefly episode, 2x09: “Open Wounds,” is now available at www.stillflying.net.

Those of you who read our last episode, “Haven,” will be happy to know that we’re picking up right where we left off. If you haven’t read “Haven” yet – shame on you! Go here ( http://www.stillflying.net/Scripts/s2/208.pdf) right now and read it!

“Open Wounds” is a very important episode, because it’s our 16th one. Why is that so important, you ask? Because The Big Damned Series ran 15 episodes. Sure, we don’t have to worry about producing anything more than a script, and certainly don’t have to deal with networks, but I think it’s a huge accomplishment that a group of fans have come together and produced (in the span of less than 10 months) more episodes than the original show.

If I can be allowed a moment of cockiness: we’ve done the impossible, and that makes us… well, if not mighty, at least kinda cool.

I’d like to thank the fans who’ve supported us by letting themselves be known on our forum, or simply by continuing to read our efforts. Spread the word. The war is far from over, and we will hold the line until Joss comes back… Well, until then, or we get to the Season Seven finale ourselves.

Lest you think we got here by magic, I also want to acknowledge the hard work of the two dozen or so people who participate in this project on a regular basis, as well as the few “fallen heroes” who aren’t members of the crew any more. We’ve got a very talented staff working to keep this boat afloat (and we’re doing it out of love, not for coin, remember).

So, head on over to www.stillflying.net, read the new episode, and, if you haven’t already done so, join the forum. We recently hit 200 members (since the forum has been up, we’ve increased approximately 50 members per month), but always want to hear more feedback. Come on in, take a load off, talk about our projects and general Firefly-related topics, and, as a bonus, poke some fun at the crew who’s putting this all together.

We’ll be back next week with episode 2x10: “Letters to Home.”

What is Virtual Firefly?

For those who are unfamiliar with our project, Virtual Firefly is a fan-based effort to continue the adventures in the Serenity’s crew as they might have had the show not been cancelled. We started with 7 episodes to finish out Season One (culminating in a season finale adapted from Joss Whedon’s own Serenity comic, “Those Left Behind”). Season Two tells the same story as the motion picture… but how it might have been told over 22 episodes rather than 2 hours. We’re going to get to the same destination as the movie, and there are many familiar stops, but there are also a lot of new bumps on the way!

Pure... Firefly... Goodness. Some awesome reads - one of the best things along with the excellant writing is (like reading the unfilmed Dead or Alive script) all their eps "star" the same great cast

I must say, I am really proud of “Open Wounds”. It was probably one of the most debated episodes behind the scenes, but it ended up coming together amazingly. Matt and George did an excellent job writing the episode, but all of the staff writers got a chance to help out during revision, which was just cool for me (though occasionally annoying, lol, when we were reading through version 129…). Plus, it seems kind of fitting that for the 16th episode of vff, the episode that makes our run officially longer than that of the original series (for now, at least), we all got to work to work on the episode together. So its really cool to read through it go, “yes, there’s a Tom change… and some Darren… and, wait, did I write those two words?...”

But enough about me rambling….

Go check out 2x09 Open Wounds!

YANCY

The Virtual Firefly Project is fantastic. It's been a lot of fun to read all along, but the group has seemed to have found its footing in season 2 generally, and two of the last three episodes would be on my list of favorites even including the Big Damn Original Series.

Well done to every one who worked on this episode! Even if you don't think that you would enjoy script based fan fiction, you don't know till you try!

Daaaaaaamn.

This was a hell of an episode. I think, though, I found it all the more appealing since I read it right after watching...ah...the first-season episode that more-or-less preceded it. A hearty well-done to all!
