It happens every day..you go about your business & suddenly Firefly pops in your head.

I was talking to a fellow who was way too technical, and I wanted to say, "I need that in captain dummy talk."

I know how that is. I was trying to explain to a friend (who refuses to watch Firefly ) about another friend doing something weird, and I added, "Some people juggle geese." She didn't get it.

"What'd you all order a dead guy for?"

I think I just live and breathe Firefly anymore, and here's why:

1. I started spouting Chinese for no apparent reason.
2. My husband, roommates and I have all started speaking to each other in Firefly quotes.
3. I'm on FFF.net everyday, without fail.

I'm starting to think it's about "when do I NOT think of Firefly?"

Why is this thread in honour of Channain? I already told her my dream, but maybe someone else wants to hear it:

My subconscious re-wrote Out of Gas for me two nights ago. Mal was waiting alone in the ship for someone to rescue him. Someone did come, but they weren't men.

The Reavers boarded the helpless Serenity. When Zoe came back with the shuttle, she didn't dare try to dock - they had to run.

In the end Mal wouldn't die, but his mind was gone. I woke up with a start when he glanced down a dimly lit corridor in my direction, looking more than a little like Stitch Hissein with his wild, whitening hair and beard, shattered and bent teeth, and wild piercing eyes.

Of course, I never did actually see the Reavers.

Probably because I've started a lot of these, SJ - one of the veterans once called it the "happy thread."

Saw Lawrence Fishburne in that commercial for sattelite TV (I think?) and thought, "Look, Zoe's real-life husband!

Okay. . .here's how much Firefly has ingrained itself into this little Attack company in Afghanistan. All of these are dead true --

Special Forces ground commander and his team were pinned down. Called my crew in for close air support. His radio call was, "Aces Three-Five, this is Saber Six. . .we've got some local color happening. A grand entrance would not go amiss."

A young mechanic was trying to complain about something he didn't fully understand. Our First Sergeant turns to him and says, "Clint! Your mouth is talkin'. . .you might want to look to that."

Our Company Commander was telling us about packing some stuff for our trip home which will be in about three months. . .he said, "We'll be flying back light, so 'THEM AS CAN' should start mailing extra stuff home right away."

How's that?

Yeah, thats a big one for me too. Ain't also seems to be guest starring in my daily vocabulary more and more.

My darling fiancee, was the best though (I've told this story here before, but I love it so much I'm gonna do it again) when he was helping me with a post for one of my online courses. Someone had said something powerful (!!) stupid. He ranted for a minute, then looked right at the screen and said "your patient should be dead". First I nearly died of shock because he is a fan but not prone to random quoting as I am, then nearly died of laughter. It was beautiful.

That ranks up there with some of the shiniest stuff I've I've ever seen on one of these so far. Static, did you convert your entire company with the DVD or did ya'll go over in Firefly mode?

I mean I was just sitting in "The Missing" last night thinking that if this were Firefly, the crew could just swoop in and shoot the bad buys. I could very clearly see Serenity landing in the open area behind Cate Blanchett's house. And what kind of brain twisting could River do to the creepy black shaman? Now THAT I would like to see!

Or he was in a hurry to get it posted and got a little heavy-handed on the mouse. Last I heard, he was gonna get to go fly today and was fairly pumped about it.

I'm trying to chase the tumbleweeds out of this post, but I don't think I succeeded very well. Sorry, all.

Incidentally, to get back on topic, someone on being interviewed on the radio used the word "Folks" three times. Yes, I counted.

There was a line in the movie last night about how a man who's spirit is unsettled will forever remain unhappy. It brought Mal to mind.

The reason that posted three times is because our connection here is tenuous at times. I hit the 'post' button and then get the "page cannot be found" message. . .so I hit 'back' and 'post' again, to make sure it gets through. Sorry if it is irritating.

Static, as long as you keep sending reports of you quiet and methodical conversion of your company in Afghanistan, nothing you could write would be the slightest bit irritating.

I tag logged this yesterday, but I thought I'd put it here toay. I think I know EXACTLY what it feels like to be pushed out of an airlock into the black. Yesterday the temp here was -9F, and the windchill was -34F. My place of business is on a small hill with no windbreaks, and the second I step out it feels like all the flesh on my face is beeing frozen or peeled of my face.

The fact that I heard Jayne's maniacal chuckle in my head was purely coincidental, I'm sure.

Channain -
It feels good, don't it? Nothing like walking out of a too frelling hot office building and having the breath sucked right out of you by the cold! It's like being reborn - or, well, so I imagine. Yeah - I'm in Minnesota, too. (Work in Hopkins, live in Shakopee)

I always think of Firefly when I see my car - it reminds me of Serenity, not real purty, but oh-so reliable! Actually, Serenity's a whole lot purtier then my car!

That and the pshyco slayer kept giving us flashbacks of River.

Think of it .."River the futuristic vampire slayer"

After dumpiing soup in her hair she stakes some poor vamp & says, "He looks better in dust."

WOOT WOOT! Another Minnesotan!! Man it's been lonesome, now there's three of us who hang out here.

Being reborn is a good way to put it - I could do without my nose hairs freezing, though.

Drove to work like Wash today. Both hands on the wheel, focused on the road, trying to avoid getting smished by two big semis...a cross between his determined look in "The Train Job," and his wild and crazy ride in "The Message."

I always think of Wash when I drive two-handed. I was taught how to drive by men (Dad, brother, boyfriend), which means it's natural for me to guide my car down the road with only one hand. Now two-handed - 8 and 4, not 10 and 2 - is somehow cooler than one-handed.

I am sooo a Wash driver - two hands all the way, and total focus. Except I tend to sing while I'm doing it...so maybe not total focus I never really thought of it in relation to Wash, though. Wish I could get up and leave things on auto once in a while! Especially when everybody's doing 360's into the ditch. That aint so cool.

Okay, early this morning we had a "QRF" call, which stands for "Quick Reaction Force". . .turns out we had some of our guys in contact with the bad guys and it wasn't going well for our guys. My craft and the other gunship come screaming in to unleash some misery onto the bad guys and I say over the radio to my wingman, "Looks like we got here just in time. What does that make us?"

My wingman in the other bird says, "Big damn heroes, sir."

To which I naturally reply, "Ain't we just?"

It's getting to the point now that I can't hear some words without them being said the way they were on Firefly - for example:

'Skimp' always reminds me of 'I know the accommodations would be lavish, Atherton doesn't skimp'

And the one that's been running through my mind today is 'standard' - from Shindig, Banning Miller's friend to Kaylee:
'Last year's was better'
'Really, what did they have then?'
'Standards'

Still, it gets me through the day with a smile on my face

Yeah, me too. Ever wonder what you'd be doing in the Firefly 'verse? Now that would be a shiny thread to start - where you would like to be versus where you would likely be in the Firefly 'verse. Great alias, by the way

Just last night, a song came on during the local sportscast that MY SISTER said sounded like Firefly. I only wish I could tell you which one it was.

I used the word "shiny" to described my sister's proposed path from where we live to Rochester, MN, taking every back route she knows to avoid gridlock. Sounded like a course Wash would set up to avoid the Feds.

The idea of military folk using Fireflyisms is a comfortable one.

I remember back in the day, jobbing out on an airplane and being the second-to-last specialist packing up a toolbox and turning to the last unfortunate who was either burning up or freezing their tuckus off and saying "... Ensign, you have the con."

Any situation involving something that you'd never touched before demanded a "... Dammit Jim, I'm a doctor - not a slurpy machine mechanic!"

Gotta love good writing. And I'm using fireflyisms every day. This morning on the phone with a customer it was, "Gorramit! I'll call my installer and see where he is." Imagine my delight when the customer said, "Calm down, Jayne." (my name is Barbara)

We're everywhere!

I've eaten Chinese chicken salad using chopsticks twice in two weeks. Have to get a set I can keep at work. I'd bring my stainless steel set, but with my luck they'd vanish, get used as stir sticks in the kitchen or something.

Every year about this time, the Today show runs a series called "Where in the world is Matt Lauer." Matt travels around the world and makes the Today show staff guess where he is. Today he was on camera and said something like "We'll be right back with Where in the World." I could tell he wasn't too keen on adding his name to it, but in my mind I really wanted him to say...

"Where in the world is MEEEEEEEE."

I was watching a detective TV show today, á la CSI. There was a crime scene in it that the police had to investigate. The camera panned into a room where you saw the usual yellow and black tape, people walking around taking pictures etc. In the middle of all this I started laughing uncontrollably.

EVERY person in that room had a pair of blue plastic gloves on.

I'll never look at a pair of blue plastic gloves the same way again, will I?

THREAD RESURECTED BECAUSE I MISSED IT....

Last week, I woke up one morning and everything that could not go smooth, did. So by the time I was ready to leave, I was spitting fire in fury.

Now, things have not been pretty at work lately. A lot of tempers flaring, and a very ugly place it has been.

So my husband's standing inside the garage to see me off (he works closer/leaves later than I do), and he says something to the effect of:

"I hope everyone gets along today and you have a good day."

So me, in truly dramatic style, shouts:

"Oh, I'm sure there'll be choirs of angels singing!!!"

So...just reminded me of Firefly

So he said:

I NEVER expected that from him in a million years!!!
