TUNNEL

I was watching Out of Gas the other day and got to the scene where the used spaceship salesman was showing Mal the vertical yellow ship, and I could help think what kind of deck plan would this thing have.

Would gravity always be toward the back of the ship, would it even have atificial gravity?

Would the pilot face toward the nose-top of the ship?

What do you all think?

Interesting question. It seems to me that the way the ship was oriented on the ground would have to be how it's oriented as far as the grav drive... unless it's like the space shuttle where everything's bolted down. However, a vertical orientation would make things awkward for the pilot, unless the cockpit has its own grav drive rotated 90 degrees from the rest of the ship. Also, vertical orientation means you have several small rooms stacked on top of one another, meaning lots of ladders. Either way, it can't be too comfortable.

From the pan by I think it's like a side loader with tanker options. Get spaceborn and float inside. As a graved interior it may be in one of two landing options, upright being the way you see it there. The strutted high drives (that's what I call them.) only show it's direction at full speed. I fugure that the gravs weld you to the floor just before you pop off. I think that ship is setting on the driver too.
From what I figure the gravity depletes after a field is created or it pops once opposed. (see Out Of Gas) Like with basic magnetics you have the stronger field prevail every time, and once you stop generating a field it's patern remains in the mater until taken out. Like making a patern in iron filings and turning off the magnet, you have the alignments set until it vibrates out. It can be anything that takes it out though, including another ship.

Just the way I see it. Science is objective until you get hurt. Then it an objective lesson. :p

You can't tell how fast a rig is when it's parked.
It is better to teach a lesson than to be left as an example.

GUNRUNNER

Maybe the spaceship salesman put the ship on its stern to save space in his lot so he can have more nice ships where costomers would see them. Serenity was twards the back of the lot and not designed to be on its stern so it was normal.
