Lucasfilm and FOX have inked a deal for a live action TV series that follows the beginnings of the rebellion and it's struggle against the Empire. Lucsafilm executives report that the series will be set between Episodes III and IV. There was no official word as to which original trilogy characters would return to the small screen, but one unnamed official was confident that a "certain Dark Lord would play a large role during the series".

Fox representatives discussed their scheduling strategy for the series.

"Our plan for the series is simple yet effective. We plan to broadcast each episode out of order and air them in different time slots on a different day each week. The series will be expensive due to the number of special effects shots so we plan to offset the cost by foregoing any advertising whatsoever."

When asked how this strategy would create a fan base, Fox reps responded by saying,"Well, it worked pretty well for Firefly!"

Yep. That went well.

I'm a Star Wars fan (even like the latest two movies, but not as much as the originals) but I'm thinking that this sounds like a really really bad idea....

scratching my head here .. how can one offset a huge pricetag on Special FX by not having outside revenue coming in ... is Lucasfilm ponying up all the dough and/ or Fox ?

Sounds like this idea should have been a mini-series and not a series.

just my 3 cents

Ummmmmmm. . .I'm forced to agree. . .this has 'bad idea' written all over it . . .

HOWEVER. . .Star Wars has for a long time been a bit of a "Flagship" for the movie-studio side of the FOX house. . .perhaps if the movie guys actually witness the TV guys COMPLETELY SLAUGHTER what would otherwise probably be a very successful and popular series, maybe they'll FIRE THE BASTARDS!!!!

Yawn. Last two films were poor. Loads of money, loads of effects, nothing else. Should have left it gathering dust on a shelf.

Should have left it to the books. Which, unlike the most recent movies, have actually been very good recently, for the most part.

I would say so.

I think this is meant as a joke Folks. RonaldRayGun is poking fun at Fox and their poor plan for handling Firefly.

the last 2 star wars films stank, but saying that the 3rd movie has a darker tone to it . Lets hope Star Wars : the tv show dosent go ahead.
If they must make star wars tv just do a mini series that continues after return of the jedi?

You know, there actually have been rumors like these floating around for quite a while. The success of the expanded Star Wars universe in books have not gone unnoticed. I wouldn't put it past them to do a live action TV series just yet.

ROTFLMAO!
As soon as I saw Lucasfilm and FOX listed together, I got EXACTLY the same notion. So they better have everything wrapped up around ep 11 'cause they ain't goin' no farther. Not if FOX has anything to do with it.

If they did a SW tv series the best direction they could go in is either 4,000 years before the films like the Knights of the Old Republic game or 1,000 years before the film and chronicling the downfall of the Sith. Either way, the base of the show would have to be a Jedi vs. Sith concept (the most interesting aspect of the films, IMHO) and would have to take place far enough away from the timeline of the films so that fresh characters could be put into place.

As long George Lucas doesn't write or direct, I think a SW tv series would work.

So there is a rumor there might be a show, possibly, but they don't know if it will be live action or anime.

Sounds pretty ify to me.

I agree. Fox seems to have a certain habit of either cancelling good shows long before they are stale, or just taking a good idea and ruining it. Although...if the show was about a group of rebels (aout 9 or so) in the early Empire smuggling slightly less than legal cargo around in their old cargo ship...that could be effective.

I actually think a better and more interest concept might be to follow a Han Solo like character - a smuggler or such who is trying to make his way while flying under the radar of the newly minted Empire and trying to survive among gangsters like the Hutts.....

Hmmmmm.... Does it sound familiar?

Sounds hauntingly familiar. Sure would be a great premise for a show.

One problem: Every minute of Han Solo's life before Episode 4, from his earliest memory to a few seconds before he meets Luke, is covered by Anne Crispin's Han Solo Trilogy, which I thought was awesome.

I dunno, I always preffered smugglers, rebels, imps, and aliens to jedis. Ever since Episode I came out, I've been thinking, "There's no way they can cram all the Star Wars history in to 2 movies." Hopefully it'll deal with the start of the Rebellion, etc. Because in Ep. 3 they'll just be creating the Empire and having Anakin become Darth.

actually what I said was a Han Solo like character - not actually Han Solo, as no one but Harrison could step into that role anyway - c'mon!

Anyway, I just meant a rogue smuggler type would be much more interesting with the background machinations of the formation of the Empire etc...

Personally I would love to see a series following the rebellion vs empire. The Star Wars universe has such a rich tapestry for storytelling that I don't think it could fail. Unless George Lucas decides to pen the entire series. As for the movies, they are not too bad. If you really follow the story of how the Emperor gains control of the Republic it's really interesting. Of course there is the over-use of CGI and one helluva corny love story to spoil the rest of the tale.

Yep. That went well.
