with Gina!

Oh I would LOVE to meet Gina!
why oh why is she doing one day on Dec 3rd
instead of joining the rest of the BDHs for Flanvention 2?!?!?!
I can't possible go to LA twice, particularly two trips so close together.

what a disappointment!

Embers, I beleive that Gina wasn't available during the dates the Flan 2 and she wanted to be involved in some way so the organizers tried to get the next best thing - have her there a week earlier for the NANO CON. Some people are going to be staying the week between the two events.

I'm glad they're still adding people to the Con lineup.

Now, if they'd just add Sean Maher . . .

Steamer, you are just NOT reading the right posts. We just had a HUGE con over Labor Day weekend in Atlanta, GA. I'd say that's pretty east coast, wouldn't you? Start saving for next year, you will NOT be sorry. www.dragoncon.org. Alan and Summer were there. Adam is usually there but had to cancel last minute for a job.

Bigbadman and I are coming all the way from backwoods North Carolina. Married thirteen years and never had a honeymoon, and we decided we finally found something important enough to bite the bullet for. Oh yeah!

Are any other Tarheels attending Flan II?

As for the age thing, Browncoats come in all ages, shapes and sizes. We're 41 and 53. Age has nothing to do with it, friends. It's all about the spirit of the thing.

For us it a rare opportunity to meet our BDHs, connect with other Browncoats (a rarity in the middle of No and Where) and for me to meet other fanfic writers I've become cyber-friends with.

Another Tarheel here, but I unfortunately won't be able to make to Flan2.

My cousin and one of our buddies have plans to eventually make it to the West Coast for various Browncoat events (Dragon*Con just isn't enough for us!), but we're all on that notorious college budget that keeps us from cross-country treks.

However, we're hoping to maybe make it to ComicCon next summer, and if we can do that, there's hope for a Flanvention.

By the way, what part of NC are you from? We'd love to have you join the Piedmont Browncoats. We've just started the group and hope to do something cool at StellarCon in High Point, probably in league with FireflyNC, since they're already planning some things.

Comic Con in San Diego is the biggest Con you'll ever attend. It's huge! I think there were 120,000 people there last year. You'll find all kinds of things to do.

As for Flan, they've said this is the last year for it.

I hope they get an invite too! A friend who went to S3 and spoke to Sean said he told her he hasn't even been invited yet!

I'm scratching my head wondering why. Anyone else have any light to shed on this development?

I do wonder if maybe he just said that so he didn't look like the bad guy to the fan if he doesn't really want to go.

The BE folks continue to say that the guest list for Flan 2 is not yet complete. I hope that means that more cast members are going to sign on, not just more of the supporting players.

Not that I won't be going, whatever way that plays out...

I'm arriving from St. Petersburg, Florida on Thursday Dec 7 into LAX at 9:10am. Just found out Burbank is like 40 minutes away by car. That's 3 trains and a bus and probably 2 hours. Any other Browncoat coming in at that time want to share a cab? Or any local Browncoat have a kindness to share their ride, I'll spring for gas?

You can get a shuttle ride at LAX that'll get you there. You don't even need a reservation.

The one I used last year was called Red Van (or something like that). I just stepped out of the terminal to the "vans and shuttles" lane and asked one of the folks stationed there to hook me up. Tell them you need to get to the Burbank Hilton (assuming you're staying at the con hotel) and they'll put you on the right shuttle.

It's not free (I'm remembering it to be around $30) but that's much less than a cab.

Probably right about the cab, even with 3, it's liable to be just as much as the shuttle. I guess I'll do that if there's no one local that might be heading in that direction.

By popular request, fan favorite Jonathan Woodward has been added to the Flan 2 lineup. Jonathan is a member of the Whedon hat trick club, having appeared in Buffy, Angel and Firefly. An extremely limited number of passes are still available for this December event.

If I was not already going to NC for some much needed personal leave, I would totally be there, would it be terrible of me to ask one of my fellow browncoats to possibly snag some autographs for me? If anyone is going, and willing to do that for me, please e-mail me!

So I'm pretty sure I looked ahead and just discovered that I have this weekend off of work.

And a free flight on delta.

This could be just the break I need . . .

if I were to show up, is there anyone with extra space in their room that would be willing to share space?

You might want to check out the room-sharing thread on the Booster board. I'm sure there are people who still need a roommate.

yup - it's right by the airport - & The Daily Grille that's in it serves the finest omelet ever, namely the Cobb Omelet... well... I get it without blue cheese & wth extra avocado but I AM a Californiac.

Also, for any sci-fi nut I recommend the Fry's Electronics just across the street because it's a theme-store wherein it's embedded with all kinds of movie props so that it looks like you're inside some 1950's giant bug invasion sci-fi movie, complete with a drive-in theater cafeteria where the tables are old, 1950's cars - actual ones - with tables inside...

...guess ya hadda be there...

ENJOY!!

If at all possible, fly into Burbank and avoid LAX at all costs. Believe me, you'll have far less headaches.

Yes, there is only one Hilton in Burbank and it is right across the street from the airport.

LAX, not so close.

"No power in the 'verse can stop me!"

Well I wish I could come - but since none of the planks I've been tapping on and making wishes to don't appear to be 'magic wishing planks'... I won't be... and the really bad news?

I contacted the organisers about dates for next year because I'm thinking of saving up and coming to the US for a convention and this sounded like the bery best one... only this will be the last one! There are no plans to have another 'Flanvention' as such - though they assure me they'll continue to have Firefly/Serenity focus at their general conventions in the future!

So... sad now... I guess I'll have to try for Dragon Con or one of those...

For those going to Flan-2, and even those not going...

Check the thread "Flanvention Forum Name Buttons". PinkishBrowncoat has offered to make 2" buttons with our FFF.net nicknames on them to help us find each other. The cost is $2.00 for those going, maybe a bit more if you want a special delivery (especially outside the US).

I did a design that several folks seem to think is pretty nice. It reflects the yellow-on-black theme of FFF.net and has the Chinese "serenity" characters in the background.
