Anyway reading the sad story of Firefly canceletion but good reviews of the movie was asking myself if there are real chances of continuation .Coming down to conclusion its the money that matters checked boxoffice result for serenity and it doesnt look so good:(:(

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/movies/?id=serenity.htm

just check out joss's latest post on whedonesque don't give up hope.

http://www.fireflyfans.net/thread.asp?b=2&t=24456

The only way for continuation is if the movie sells ridiciolously well on DVD... so show your friends family, get other people interested in the movie and tv show. That is the fan thing to do.

When enough people will buy the dvds(and Joss's name gets more well known because of Wonder Woman and Goners), and Nathan Fillion gets more well known because of guest appearance on Lost(and hopefully become more permanent), then Serenity 2 will seem like a good investment for Universal.

They are accurate enough as far as they go. They don't include DVD sales which appear to have been brisk. Brisk enough for a sequel? Well the suits haven't said; which makes it a bit of an uphill struggle. But we've brought this 'verse back from the ashes once and we can do it again. With perseverence we can show Universal that Serenity is worth more celuloid. It'll just take a bit of time.

Yes. Disagree on this one point "The only way for continuation is if the movie sells ridiciolously well on DVD... "

In addition to

1. Serenity DVDs sales.

2. More Box office. If you know 25 or more Browncoats, you can ask a theater to screen Serenity for your next shindig. Midnight or off days or time are a better bet. The theater has to be confident that they will make a profit. And remember theaters make most of their money from food and drink. That is why beer and pizza theaters love screening Serenity for Browncoats. We know how to Shindig!

Browncoats can also arrange charity screenings of Serenity see http://www.cantstoptheserenity.com
Last year Browncoats arranged 47 Serenity Screenings around Joss Whedon's Birthday (June 23) and raised over $65,900.24 (Est.) for charity.

Organizers already listed for Minneapolis MN,
Charlotte, NC, Dallas, TX

3. Sale of Official Universal Serenity merchandise. See list below.

Yes. Nathan (Our Captain) Fillion's recent movie SLiTHER is being released to DVD October 24, 2006. Lots of Nathan extras on the DVD. Nathan's next movie White Noise: The Light is being released in theaters January 5th, 2007. If the Lost episodes are show before then, they will be able to use "starring Nathan Fillion from Lost" in the ads. Part of Serenity's problem was that people did not know the actors in the movie. Hopefully, Nathan's other movie Waitress will get a distributor theater or DVD.

You were busy trying to get yourself lit on fire. It happens.

You can't be giving up hope now, Earthan. I mean, just look at this site - a huge collection of people who love the show (and will do just about anything to get another movie or series or anything). There's plenty of things to do to recruit people - gather a few friends over to your house and have a Firefly party, or use of the guerilla marketing tactics mentioned here ( http://fireflyfans.net/threadlist.asp?b=20). And, if nothing else, what we do have in Firefly and Serenity is more than we could ask for - we got a lovely show, and a big family!

So, welcome to our corner of the 'verse, and enjoy your stay!

in terms of screenings... Universal does make a bit of money(ie charging the cost for the rental of the reel or dvd showing rights) but since it was for charity, those rates were relatively low. if it was just for fun and not charity, I do not know if 250 US would be the standard rate. Plus the proceeds from the ticket sales went to charity.

Don't get me wrong its a lot of fun and creates a lot of good will... but I think if you want to make Universal happy, buy more dvds, and all that other merchandise. I got a serenity novel(someone got it for me :)) amd i have the visual companion as well as the magazine. Oh and the Serenity comics... basically anything with the name serenity on it(except for the adult diapers) some of that money(I think) goes back to Universal.

The main thing is still DVD sales, because with the DVDs you can show many many other people how awesome the verse is and get them to buy the dvd as well(goes for both firefly and serenity).

As I remember the info on Universal's take from screenings:

Charity screenings. $250 fee.
Regular screenings. WHICHEVER IS HIGHER of $250 or standard percentage of ticket sales for the venue for a movie that has been out for a while.
Maybe 50% of ticket price. I think that was the lowest percentage I've heard.

And don't forget ipod sales and future Amazon unbox sales.

Serenity has a page for Amazon unbox sales...but is not available yet.

You can also buy the Serenity DVD direct from Universal. I ordered the Full screen and backordered the Widescreen for the anniversary.

$14.98

LWAVES

To anonymous1:

If I heard right Lost is having a break after the first 6 episodes are shown and they won't be showing any more until Feb.
I believe Nathan's Lost episodes are at the end of the season so are more likely to be shown around April or May so they won't make the White Noise release so they won't have 'Starring Nathan Fillion from Lost' on it.

Not to be negative or anything, just realistic from what I've heard.
That fact that he's in Lost will be a big plus because it is a HUGE mainstream show. Some people will see him and then find out what else he's done and that will mean more exposure for our show/movie.

As for a sequel?
Who knows. In my opinion it could go either way right now. It's nice to have hope (and I do have a lot of hope) but you have to be prepared in case it never comes. Saying that it has to happen and latching onto every rumour that is out there is no way to go.

But at the end it's all down to the PTB.
