And this one was really great, though not GIR related:

He is Gir, of the short-lived show Invader Zim, which was brilliant and hilarious and died because it was on Nickelodian instead of Comedy Central, where it should have been.

And it takes me ten minutes to load this thread. I am tenacious.

Hello Magdalena:

That is a wonderful happy place you have there.
That is one thing our two countries have in common, is the landscape we have. I love mountains the most. I enjoy driving through them. The mists in the valleys and the cool air when you crest a pass. You look up and see the rocks jutting out over your head and then you turn and look down and see a stream ragging through a gorge. Must be morning where you are. It is night here. Got a cold spell already. Early for this time of year. Got snow in the east. But Wisconsin was spared that. Do you get snow in Melbourne?

Hello Phoenixrose:

It takes so long to post pictures on this thread I'm just writing to people for a while.

So his name is Gir and it is from a show called Invader Zim. Will look for DVD's in hopes of buying them. He was one of the first pictures I posted when I learned how. Gir was mixed in with a bunch of emoticons and caught my eye. His dancing worked well with the subject of the thread, which was some kind of lunacy we usually have here. It is nice to know he has a name and may be able to find the show.

Here it is Friday the thirteenth and I back out of my parking space and hit a post with my sideview mirror. Breaking a mirror on Friday the thirteenth is about my speed. It puts a nice period on the end of my glorious week.

But I have high hopes in finding this Invader Zim. I am always looking for off the wall shows. This one sounds good.

When I was over at serenitymovie.org the last time the site crashed, I saw a thread much like this one, and it had 400 some responses. I was looking at that going 'They can do that here becasue their threads split up. No thread over at Fireflyfans could get that big; everyone's computers would blow up!'
Looks like I was wrong. Dead wrong. The wrongest of the wrong. And as we are getting up to 1000 posts, I bet this one is longer than the other one.

I have had quite a morning. I polished all my blades earlier without any trouble; then I dropped and sliced open my fingers on a soap bottle in the shower, fell down the stairs, nearly had a contact pop out while I was driving to the store, and dropped a half gallon of juice on my toe. Does that seem right to you?

Oh yeah, and my virus protection freaked out over something that was slinking around somewhere. I'm not sure where, though I suspect photobucket, which makes me a sad panda.

I should go to bed. I should have gone to bed awhile ago, but I thought I'd try to salvage the day and use the cable 'net while it was open

Wow! Thank you Penguin & Traveler!! I love my wombats!!

Yes, it does snow in Australia - but only in small areas and only up high! We don't get snow in the cities at all - though I think it has snowed in Hobart (southernmost state capital, Tasmania) a few times, it never remains on the ground! Any city that gets snow makes the headlines! We do get lots of rain and chilly winds though! ... though not enough rain this year - we are facing the toughest water restrictions in history... starting today!

This isn't from my own collection (I will take photos though when my folks come back from the UK with their digital camera!) but it is still cute...

The wombat looks like minature brown bear. As cute as they appear, I suspect you don't walk up to one and start petting it.

Oh, how I wish we did not get snow in the cities up this way. We can get buried in twelve inches in just a few hours. It is nice for the children, but driving is impossible. We won't see any real snow fall until late December. But this year western New York state got a heavy snow fall just a few days ago. That was a surprise. Its these huge lakes in this area. A storm goes over them and picks up extra moisture and then dumps it when it get back over land. I just love living in the north.

It sounds amazing Traveler! We have to drive for about 3 - 4 hours to get to the snow fields - though I won't complain about that! I only saw snow for the first timein my life when I was 20 & actually saw it snowing when I was about to turn 34! It still looks like magic to me!

Wombats will generally ignore you, but if they feel threatened they do have very strong teeth! I can vouch for that!! I was bitten when I was 19 and had a sub-dermal bruise for months! I was lucky that I had on strong, new jeans, because the same wombat took a chunk the size of a golf ball out of a ranger's arm the folowing week - that's when they moved him away from the camp-sites... but he was feeling threatened by a group of kids who were chasing him, and he was old, and I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time! That's how I came to collect them... You really notice them after something like that!

So, you live near the Great Lakes? I saw the snow falls on the news last night - we are having record hot spells and you are having record snow falls... and they tell us the world is doing fine?

...another corner of my paradise!

We have our assorted creatures in Wisconsin. Raccoons and skunks love to turn over garbage cans. We have black bears, but they are few and shy. But once when we were camping in northern Wisconsin we drove out to the local dump, at night, and waited in the dark for an hour and when we heard a noise we turned on the car lights and there was a black bear searching in the garbage. But deer are everywhere. We have to many. They follow the rivers right into the city. Can you imagine a deer jumping out into traffic when everyone is going home from work.

You have such beautiful scenery. I have to travel hundreds of miles to see sites like that. Wisconsin isn't to bad. We have rolling hills and forests in the northern half of our state. But to see mountains and canyons you have to cross the prairies. Either through the Dakotas or Nebraska. Those are some long flat states. Ask anyone who has passed through them. My family came out of Nebraska. When your driving down the highway you know you're nearing a town because you can see the trees from miles away. That is Nebraska. Small towns and corn.

We have had summers when we were not allowed to water our lawns because it was so dry and the city wells were getting low. This was a good year. So our farmers must have done well.

I love this... I have read and re-read the books of Laura Ingalls Wilder more times than I can count... and I did count until I'd read each of them 11 times by the age of 12!! I read her version of traveling from Wisconsin through Dakota and on...

Australia does have it's less picturesque vistas too... but where I live, in Melbourne, there are low mountains (some of my friends overseas scoff that we even call them mountains) on the horizon, there are reasonably safe beaches in the bay & surf beaches just 1-2 hours down the road... there's bush and clean air and wildlife just 20 mins away from my home... Then there's the city with its river, cafes, trams, theatres, shopping centres, book shops and historic, Neo-Gothic buildings from our boom era - the gold rush lasting from the 1850s - 1890s!

The Nullabore Plain literally translates as 'No Trees Plain' - it is totally flat and at night you can see the lights of an oncoming vehicle for ages before you actually pass them...
