I'd like an Australian or Antipodean one, although I'd prefer to see the Eureka flag rather than the standard aussie flag.

*goes off to find example of flag*

*returns*

ok, here's a few examples and a description.
The Eureka flag was designed by a Canadian, Lieutenant Ross. It was hand sewn by Anastasia Withers, Anne Duke and Elizabeth Hayes just before the 'monster meeting' at Bakery Hill in Ballarat on Wednesday the 29th November 1854. The flag was 12 ft by 8 ft and had five stars on a cross, sewn on a blue background. The stars have eight points because the women who sewed it were pressed for time and folded the material in four when they cut out the stars.

An eighty foot flagpole was erected for the meeting at Bakery Hill and the flag was first raised just before the meeting at around 2pm on Wednesday the 29th November. Raffello Carboni mounted the stump beneath the Southern Cross and called upon all "irrespective of nationality, religion and colour" to salute the Southern Cross "as the refuge of all the oppressed from all countries on earth".

(last one is what's left of the original flag)

If you find yourself getting too worked up about stuff that isn't real (RP Threads etc), then go outside, breathe in some fresh air and try feeding the ducks. (Because ducks don't care about your politics, religion, skin colour, choice of music or even your haircut. They like everyone, provided you bring them food.)

Yay!! May I please 2nd Nico's request? I think the Eureka flag is perfect for us Aussie Browncoats!! Well done on the examples and history Nico!! You're my hero!!

... and the men of the Eureka Stockade which was on Bakery Hill were protesting against the unfair and injust laws which forced them to pay through the nose for gold mining licenses which often cost them more than they were making with their gold findings... they "stood up to the man & they gave him what for"... Hey - that would make a good song...?

Thanks for the offer too CaptainJosh06!! You are awesome!! ... I even did a Snoopy dance for you!!

I really like it! I think Nico will be asleep though, and he should be consulted! I love the idea of being the Eureka Browncoats... I think Joss would approve! If I had photobucket open I would give you a dancing cow - but all I have is a kiss! of thanks!

The Eureka Browncoats - it has a ring to it!!

Thank you CaptainJosh06! You are way talented and very shiny!! - love, Magda x x x

P.S. I was just pondering and I wondered if it is possible to mention 'Australia' or 'Down Under' in some way - even in a sub-line or shadow - it needn't be too obvious... just to give those folk that don't know the connection an idea of where we're from?

Thank you again my dear Josh! (My gorgeous nephew is called Josh... great name!) - love, Magda x x x

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Those are pretty shiny Captain Josh.

How about one with the Virginia State flag:

I would prefer a pic of the flag rippling as if flying like in your above examble of the Union Jack.

I may be a group of one, here, but an "Expat Browncoat" banner - just like the UK one, but with the US flag on the other side - would be very shiny :)

Gosh I love Virginia. There's a picture of a dead man with his aggressor resting a foot on the cadavor. I know the Latin translates to "Thus always to tyrants", but it might as well just say "Don't fuck with us".

On the subject of FireFly, I don't think any other flag could capture the sentiments of the show half as well. God bless the commonwealth!

That would be Athena resting her foot on a tyrant king. I find it to be a great flag, showing how Virginia has always fought tyranny and despot kings.

*Sighs*

Yes, and all of that was what, 140 + years ago? Hindsight is 20-20 they say, and it is easy to look back now and pass judgement, but that was a different time with different perceptions and beliefs.

Virginia is a Commonwealth, as is I believe Kentucky. I was not aware that Mass referred to itself as a Commonwealth.

And that seems to imply that only southern states used slaves. New York City was the second largest slave market behind Charleston and considered seceding along with the South. You mentioned Massachusets, the first colony in New England to have slaves (the 1620's) and which was the leader of slave trade in New England. There was a long history of slavery in both the North and the South that can't be simply wiped away.

If I recall correctly Georgia was the only colony that forbade slavery at its inception. The colony's governor was eventually forced out by the landowners because they couldn't compete with all of the colonies that used slaves, including the northern colonies. I find it bizarre that such an enlightened viewpoint as the colony's founder had is not heralded more.

Wow! That is great CaptainJosh.

I hate to ask, but is there any way you could remove the word "state" and replace it with "Browncoats"? It wouldn't be too much trouble would it?
