Ok, this might seem a little hurried and over-thought about, but that's just because I've been waiting 2 days to be able to get online and post here. If the movie isn't made, fails, or doesn't do well enough to convince the networks that a TV show would be profitable, then there are two ways we could still have Firefly.

Idea # 1: A Firefly comic book. Joss would write it, and he'd get a bunch of pencilers, inkers, and colorers to draw it for him. They would be the kind who make really lifelike, non-cartoonish images, like in the adult Batman comics. It could either be done on a month-to-month basis (Issue 15: Return to Serenity Valley, part three of four) or it could be a series of 80-page graphic novels that would come out every so often (Return to Serenity Valley: A Firefly graphic novel.)

Idea # 2: A Firefly cartoon show. While it sounds like a perfect recipe for a travesty, the show would be exactly the same as it is now except animated. That would save tons of money, as there would be no need for cameras, sets, special effects, etc. Of course, the original actors might not agree to be the voices, prefering to actually act. But voices are pretty easy to approximate, and we'd probably get some of the original cast. The show would probably go straight to DVD.

Of course, I know nothing about how easy it is to publish/produce things. But I still think that these are the next best alternatives to a renewed live action TV show. They would certainly beat a radio drama.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

I would read or watch anything Firefly that Joss put out.

Comics would be cool, and might be a way of generating interest in more people. Cartoons would be okay, if you could get a network to run it in a good time slot and day.

Actually a good webcomic would be a nice fan submission kind of thing rather than official Canon.

I've seen some good art out of a few people here, mabey somebody would do something like that.

NIGHTMARCHER

i've actually been thinking about putting together a comic. only thing is that i don't write. so someone else would have to do the storyline. i don't really have too many samples as of yet, so you guys will just have to take my word for it that i'm pretty okay. i am a strict penciler. i don't usually ink my stuff. so either i would have to start, or someone else would have to do it for me. then again, i'd be happy if it was left in graphite. but that's just me.

if there are others like me out there just waiting to do something productive with their spare time, this may work. maybe the stories could be broken down by artists. one person doing one issue and such. publishing on the web would be fine with me. if anyone is interested, we can talk more. just give me a week or two to put some samples togther. i wanna make sure i do something current for all the world to gawk at.

i'm glad i am not the only one who's had an idea like this!

I'm familiar with the whole comic book scene. What you would run into right off is a heep of copyright troubles.

As in... no you can't make a Firefly comic!

So if you're thinking of getting published (and you happen to NOT be an old friend of Joss Whedons') you haven't any chance at all.

Besides, Joss is writing comics himself more and more. I've noticed how many writers from Hollywoodland are now writing comics instead of just stealing scripts from comics. A nice change in my opinion!

That's the pro end. No reason you can't do a 'fan-fic' thing - even online. I know, I know, FOX lawyers will still send you rude letters demanding you take down your website. I find replying with a firm 'sue me ya goram bastard' works just fine. Hey, it worked on my old X-Files fan site.

And ya GOTTA ink that. Go get some 'pigment markers' (go to the art shop and ask for staedler black pigment markers) if the crowquill scares ya.

Well, if we wrote an online comic than it'd just be fan fiction in comic form. If Joss wrote it than it would be the TV show in comic form. So if the TV show isn't renewed than I'll probably write to Joss and tell him to make a Firefly comic, though he could probably think of the idea himself. Because comics need a lot fewer viewers than TV shows, and they cost a lot less.

Yeah, make it a fan site deriveing no profit, and you can claim all kinds of fair use stuff. Sprite comics get away with it all the time.

Don't squat with your spurs on.

I think an illustrated fanfic would be a good idea.
