Alright folks, why is this place so dead. Been considering writting a fic for another board I frquent about disappearing posters/chatters online. Kind of a scary thought.

Anyways, I keep getting intel on the whole Ms Indelible situation and it seems like a whole gamit of info has evaded me for some time. I figure if this thing goes off then I will have the chance to tell her to smother me or leave me the F alone. And I mean quite literally I will say that.
I will not be a fall guy or backup plan or last resort. Gettin' a little angry here.

Jonny- thought I should explain that I and a few others were here for the first round of Ms. Indelibles treatment of NV. Her oh I like ... you no I don't... OH I'm ignoring you now... oh wait other women are with you well then I'm interested ... Hey wait around for me to call and maybe I'll be nice and ( at least for me) I don't really trust her. She's already proven her willingness to jerk him around like a demented yo-yo because she was either too daffy brained to make a serious committment or she's a big time game player. I just adore NV and think he's about the best guy ever and I think she's a twit for messing with him the first time. IF this is truly a repent of her ways thing and she genuinely makes it up to him and NV is happy...well then I'll be all nice and friendly like and such. I just hope she treats him as well as he deserves...but if not I will hunt her and make her sorrier than she's ever been for messing with my precious NV!!! SOrry just felt I should explain as I realized to those who weren't there the first time it sounds like I've taken an irrational and psychotic dislike to a woman I know nothing about...Should have clarified this in earlier comments and all....I'm really not usually so violently inclined.

So she did say that she missed me and our time together the during the last episode. But As I told her I wouldn't be calling much anymore I could hear an audible gasp on the other end of the phone. I find women to be territorial. Obviously they are protective of their families, but there seems to be a built in tension (that you'd normally associate with males, at least in the animal kingdom) whenever two or more women find themselves residing in the same place. They don't want other adult females in their home space.

The evil bug seems to be leaving. I slept most of the day, and woke up refreshed and starving...I have eaten my way through three eggs, corned beef hash, 6 slices of toast, a banana or two, several brownies, a pint of ice cream, and some candy. I guess I needed food.

Oh, and Penguin has all the really neat icons. If he doesn't, he'll whip them up in no time. He's not the King of Iowa for nothin'!

Magda, sorry to hear you managed to get the ick.

I've had an icky something on and off for three weeks. I just wish it would make up its gorram mind.

Competitiveness...I can be quite competitive in a number of areas including work and gaming and I was all through school, but I try not to be a bitch about it. My friend's husband and I will playfully mock one another during gaming, but noting obnoxious. My friend on the other hand is completely non-competitive. But...in the meanness factor, I've noticed that while guys will be highly competitive about sports, work whatever, they usually won't hold grudges about it where as a lot of women I know will, and are quite nasty about any perceived losing on their part. Lots of sniping and back-biting.

On the issue of whether males or females are more competitive... I'm talking this over with my bestest friend (yes, she's a browncoat) and we think that men are more competitive when it comes to physical challenges (I was going to say activities but...) and will be up front about the competition!"

- yeah - take that!" There will be no doubt if there has been a challenge made!! Men are more transparent in their competition with one another!

Women are more competitive about things close to their heart - for example... men! Reputation, creativity and so forth will also bring out the competitive streak in women - what makes them different is that they can be so much more subtle about it - you might not realise there is a competition on until someone has been trumped and then you'll see a small acknowlegement in the form of a look or a nod and you'll realise what just passed!

I don't understand grudges myself - they take too much energy... though the one thing that will get me on the 'unforgiving

' side is when someone hurts somebody I love or care about!!

Then you all want to get out of my way!!!

I'm crazy competitive, I have to win. It's very bad and no one wants to play video games with me (the ones that matter to me) because I'm ruthless and get sulky when I lose. Really, it's very bad, and is the reason I don't game on a large scale; because I get frustrated.
Isn't it strange how we seem to catch viruses over the 'net here? I know I was fighting it off awhile ago, but it seems to have gone away without causing any damage.
And... I know I'm missing a few things. I'm in too many places at once!

I guess I can be competitive, but (possibly as a result of having always been put in the teams of rejects and misfits, thus losing most games) I tend to view most contests as a purely social affair, not concerned as to who wins or loses, as long as a fun time is had. When it stops being fun is when I stop participating.

Oh, and in response to some previous ponderances.
Briefs/Boxer Briefs Once agin, due to CFS activities, my clothing (and underwear) needs to be natural fibres, not synthetic, so as to prevent melting of clothes when surrounded by flames.

Minimal or no makeup on the ladies Unless it's for theatrical purposes, I don't see the need for people to cake on the powders (this is especially aimed at the school students).

New Ponderance (or it might be an old one,but I'm not prepared to go back through the archives, having already narrowly escaped being eaten by dust bunnies on previous forays.
Is chivalry worth using? By this I don't necessarily mean draping your coat across puddles for the ladies to walk across, but more the little things, like pulling out a seat or holding the door open for your SO/date/companion (in the non-Inara sense of the word). I ask this because there are some who view it as proper manners (it was how I was brought up), while others see it as chauvanistic or degrading. That and there was an essay on it in Finding Serenity (which I have currently lent to a uni lecturer who has already incorporated it into the syllabus).

Chivalry is 'good manners', or 'consideration', or 'basic common courtesy' and too many people are not brought up to have those! I say set a good example... I will hold a door open for anyone - male or female, I give way to people wanting to merge or turn into traffic when I am driving, offer my seat to someone whom I think might appreciate it more than me... I love it when someone... anyone... does the same for me, and it has that "oh he's nice" angle to it if it is a guy who does it!

Chivalry definitely shouldn't be dead Nico - and I am so glad that you were raised that way too!! I guess I'm a lot like you too mei mei...

One thing I never want is one of the ladies from this board angry or pissed at me...there would be all manner of unpleasantness heaped upon my head... It is wonderful to know that y'all are like that, though. Makes a man feel safe!

I think we are all so in tune with each other that we even catch colds all over the globe...

Magda, sorry! Turns out I may have been one of the carriers!

I am much better though, so the good news is that it does not last long!

Nico, I am a follower of the ways of chivalry...or at least I try to be. It is sometimes difficult to do so in this day and age, but I do find that most people are appreciative and thankful. On SO's, I sometimes practice 'guerilla chivalry'...by which as we are approaching a door and she reaches for it, I'll make some loud noise to make her pause, thereby giving me the chance to grab the door first!

Doesn't always work, but it's fun when it does.
I generally try to be nice, courteous, and at least somewhat friendly to the people around me. I don't mind holding doors open, and I don't have a problem when one is opened for me.

I don't know if I'll be back on today...I have yard work and sewing to do, followed by a date later this evening.

I believe in being polite. I feel pulling a chair out for a woman is not chauvinistic. Women have always held a special place for me. It is only in recent years they have been given equal status legally. I know some busnesses still have trouble with equal opportunities for women. As the years go by this, I hope, will change. I will always pull the chair out for women and I suspect this will continue for some time with most of the male population. I just hope men also realise women can work beside us. The work place is going to be the big hurtle. Equal pay for equal work. Getting the promotion when it is deserved seems to be the issues that are still out there. So pulling out a chair is a small thing compared to how we treat women at the work place.

Hello RMMC! I had the same problem myself - allergies plus lack of resilience following Glandular Fever as a teenager made my autumn - winter & through to spring a series of never-ending colds, coughs and 'flu's - but you've all heard me go on and on about Olive Leaf Extract so I won't dwell on it any more...

Apparently the human body's immune system reacts to invading allergens in exactly the same way as it does to invading virus's - that's why we get so tired and our immune systems get run down during the allergy periods of the seasons...

Hope you're all feeling heaps better very soon - I am definitely on the mend!

bleh, i know ALL about being sick...spent most of my early childhood days in hospital for stuff, and i used to get these huge sinus infections every time the season changed. and then i started getting them every four weeks, pretty regularly and they kinda snowballed and wouldn't leave and i ended up getting pnuemonia. i then ended up having this surgery, where they basically chisled out the bone in my sinuses to make them bigger so i wouldn't keep getting infections (i had some tumors and stuff in there as well, which wasn't helping matters)and now i haven't had a infection for almost a year. its very exciting for me

Yeah, that's what my doctor told me last year when I had a summer cold for two months. I ended up having to not visit my closest friend as I'm allergic to her cat.

She keeps her house pretty clean (her hubby's slightly allergic to the cat as well) and I'm normally fine, but when the cold is added....Gah! This finally cleared up when I went camping for two weeks. Go fig.

Wow, your childhood diseases beat mine. I got everything that went around (and passed most of them to my annoyed siblings) but I think my worst were mumps and spending 4 1/2 months with bronchitis (Jan-May) but thankfully not at the same time.

Glad to hear the rhinoplasty worked for you! One of the women I work with had it done last year as well and has helped her tremendously.

Hi Shiny Kitten!! That sounds gross... poor you! I had my share of sinus infections over the years - but not as severe as that - I did have some huge pollups in one of my sinus's but it healed by itself... my sister had something like you though and the operation to go with it! Not fun at all!!

glad things are much better for you - the pollution in Sydney usually gets to my throat - but that's the same in London too... and Manila - they say you cope with your own cities' pollutants better than other ones...

I have nothing to add, as I've been very healthy throughout my life. My mom was always into the natural treatment and letting my body take care of itself and I never got serious illnesses as a possible result of that; kept my immune system strong enough to kick most things out before they get started. Also don't have anything wrong like overly small sinuses and such. I just wanted to say something because I'm here!

thanks for the kind sentiments guys! you are very sweet.
alot of my health problems came from the fact that i was born 12 weeks early. i weighed under one pound. that i survived at all was a complete miracle- babies that are born that early nowdays aren't expected to live, even with all the technology etc available, so for me to survive in 1984, with the technology etc avilable then...well, it's kinda unheard-of.

i only had the sinus surgury done last year. when i was little the trouble was with my lungs, (i had really severe croup, and almost died a couple of times) and the sinus stuff took over from that as i got older. i had kinda gotten used to being sick all the time, so the last two years or so have been a real 'health' breakthrough for me.

- I had glandular fever when I was 17 I think and since then I have gone from 1 virus to another so the breakthrough for me has been 'Olive Leaf Extract' and I am amazed at how it has helped to strengthen my immune system! I guess I'm saying that I understand (to some degree) and share your joy!!

WHITEFALL

Hi all... finally decided to catch up on the imponderings... took me more than an hour that i dont really have to spare, but o well. As someone once said, for the important things, you make the time.

Hmm... competitiveness... well back when i had PE class, i'd care for about... 3-4minutes about losing, then i would completely forget. one thing i cant stand though is those games... those "lets all have fun by playing a game where people get eliminated" games.... most recently i went to a party of a club i joined, so i only knew a handful of people, and the game they played was... like simon says, but.... with pirates or something... but it was really annoying. I dont understand how people tolerate the fake camaraderie in those games. We're all friends here, now... YOU'RE OUT! HA HA!. and i'm not making that up, there was actual pointing and laughing. My opinion on the subject is either say you're gonna be competitive (like a sports game) or dont be (like theater).

Chivalry... well, i dunno. my dad has this thing about opening car doors for guests and people, and it sorta feels weird. polite, but unnecessary and weird. i prefer expediency in those kinds of things. if me and someone else, male or female is going for a door, i just go straight on through: it tends to save a lot of time and stupidity. That whole "after you" "no, after you" mental debate on who should go first. Not to say i dont believe in being polite, considerate, and understanding, but i try not to dwell on the traditional things in chivalry. Just walk through the door, damnit, you arent very likely to hit each other.

And on the topic of being sick... i dunno what happened, i suddenly came down with a cold/sore throat this weekend. i very rarely get sick, in fact, i havent had a real fever-need-to-lie-in-bed for years. luckily this isnt that, but damn its annoying.

Ok, thats all the time i got, need to get back to my civics.

'morning all...

Well last week was entertaining (of a sort). Earthquake, island-wide power outage, lousy weather, being reminded to stay at home by the authorities, and everything closed down....meh...it was worse than Thanksgiving, Christmas, or New Year's (at least there'd be movies to go to...)

I think I've sorted out most of last week now...but work's getting crazy, so I'm posting less often (since my luck with posting at home is dismal).

NVG, Tristan, hope the dates went well (or at least pleasantly). I agree with MsG about "taking care" of Ms. Indelible, but really MsG...shave her bald and snatch her through town?

Why? I mean, really...drag her through town first then do what I threaten some of my students with: paint her hair with crazy-glue, stick her to the ceiling (at least 14 feet up) and leave her there for gravity to work with...

(If you want to be "nice" you can stick a foam mattress under her so she doesn't smack the floor too hard.)

That girl gives the rest of us women a bad name. I'm with MsG in providing a "wake up call" for the girl. NVG, if she doesn't figure it out, you're welcome to come here...I know a lot of womenfolk who'd find a guy like you worth hunting down and dating. (I'm sure there's a few here who hunt too...I know more would be fishing and swimming, but I'm digressing...)

Competiveness: Yeah, I've seen mean (petty rather), and I've seen annoying with competiveness in games and whatnot. (Ever have another female do the stupid high-pitched squeal when it looks like she's losing? UGH! Makes my skin crawl, and then I want to slap tape on her to stop her noise.) I try to ignore the trash-talk, the posturing, and whatnot. If I'm playing to win, I'm playing to win...but I'd rather play to have fun.

...Oh...and the "comptitiveness" I have with certain other folks here is all in good fun.

'Cause making some folks all inarticulate by doing PG rated things is so much fun.

Okay...the whole MsG/Marvoreen lil' kid in the car fight...1) cut it out, or we're going home and dinner is going to be squid lu'au and the like... 2)Cute pic Marvoreen. 3)Some of us folks have a really hard time getting over being sick MsG...(think hard coughing that lasts months).

I don't think chilvary is dead...more of a morph into general politeness expectations...Opening and holding the door, helping carry overloaded folks, etc. My mom "taught" me those kinds of good manners. (I use "taught" because she never stood around and said "This is what you do..." nor to do it... She used to work as an Educational Assistant for the orthopedically disabled kids in special education and hurt her back lifting a "kid" to change them. So grew up learning to grab the heavier stuff and let mom carry the light stuff.)

Undies...silk's nice but expensive, microfiber's nice too, but I tend to be the cotton type myself...

Shinykitten...woah...12 weeks premature?...and in the '80's *boggle* *genuflects* Having dated someone who was a preemie I can appreciate some of the things you survived.

Hey Whitefall...hope you're feeling better and the civics isn't too strenuous for you.

Yep, i love the milti-time postings, too! More likely for me on the weekends as I'm a natural nightowl. (signed off here at 3am, finished reading a book and went to bed at 6am.) Hmm...so to get on the time clock everyone else has here in the eastern US, I'd have to go to Australia. *checks wallet* Well, that's not happening anytime soon.

ShinyKitten: I'm glad you made it! *hugs* Also glad to hear you're doing much better these days. The hospital I worked for back in '84 had already stopped having a neo-natal unit, or else I'd been seeing little ones like you a lot and been too sad. I still had to go poke some babies though.

My health issues all stem from my mother chain-smoking when she was pregnant (which they didn't know was a health hazzard in the 1960's) with me. 'Course they also didn't diagnose my asthma until I was 30!

Oh, I think I forgot a bit in the undies catagory. I have cotton and would love silk, but can't afford it.
