It had to happen; I have been expecting it for the last couple of years. Yesterday, I enrolled a new pupil for 2007 and his father was a former pupil of mine. I have finally reached the stage where I am teaching second generation. Pity me.

I might not have been in the game as long as you, but we've already had several children of past clients end up here. And I've only been here seven years.
Its all good. Its a sign that your work is important enough to stick around for future generations. Thats just cool.

I haven't stayed in one school long enough for the next generation to catch up. Just watching children growing up in the school is enough of a mind blowing situation

Come on little cazy person....

You don't have to be a teacher to experience
something like this. In my (non-teaching) career
I've eventually welcomed as co-workers kids I'd
met when my daughter started kindergarten, and
customers' kids whom I'd "met" while they were
still big bumps.

So.
Might make you an icon.
Or an institution.
Does it make you old?
Not.

Lets see. I saw the first Mercury flight into space. I remember shows on TV like "Our Miss Brooks", "Oh Susanna", and "December Bride". I'm sure I watched even earlier programs, but was to young to remember them.

I remember the pink and black 56 Buick my dad bought. Can you imagine driving around town in a pink and black car. We kept that car for six years. God help me.

The time for "God help me" is when you are truly old and can't remember that car.

For the nonce, you are merely not quite young
anymore.

I wore pink and black last weekend, for the sheer
fun of it. And no floral bonnet.

I looked quite beautiful.

Relatively speaking.

The incoming freshmen here at the University keep getting younger and younger. And the incidents of me being addressed as "ma'am" increases annually as well.

Hello FloralBunny:

I don't think I will ever forget that car. I will be like "Citizen Kane" and breathe out my last word "Buick".

Of course you looked beautiful. Women are just naturally beautiful. I bet you could dress up in coveralls like Kaylee and look stunning.

not only am i old enough to remember the plymoth fury that my father had (not the sissified ones they made towards the end, but the real bad-ass fury) but i am old enough to have owned a '74 ford ranchero, before it was even considered a classic!

Okay. I concede. That kind of old-fashioned
flattery is rarely practiced by the iPod generation.
Coveralls stunning on me? Not so much. Heh.
Skinny I am.

As for "Buick" being your "Rosebud" you should
cheer up. Could be "Pierce-Arrow" or worse.

Makes you over 35.
Hehe -- also makes you in a hurry to do something happybirthdayish about it.

And let's not mind being called ma'am. Beats *so* many other things we could be called...

It was quite an experience when I started here, fresh faced and 24, to be called "Sir." Sheesh.

Used to it now.

Hello FloralBunny:

You are right, I could be saying "Pierce-Arrow."

Age is just mind set. When I was ten I wanted to be twenty. So we are never what we want to be if we allow ourselves to go that route. We are what we are. Or to quote the great philosopher, "I yam what I yam."

I still say you would look great in coveralls.

COZEN

I remember the day, baby
Done past and gone
When I could love you
Most all night long.
Now my thing done changed
And I done got old.
Can't do the things I used to do.
Because I'm an old man,
And I ain't the same.

Oh, Gawd, cozen!
Was that written before Viagra and the rest
of those apparently magic potions?

As to the matter of coveralls, traveler (sir!),
beauty is in the angle of the view.

Trust me. Have I ever lied to you?
