There are so many great scenes, ones that can stand on their own, I wonder which ones everyone likes the best?

My pick, to start things, is the opening of "Our Mrs. Reynolds." The back and forth between mal and jayne is great, and then the whole tone turns. I really love that scene.

Simon: "Were there any Feds?"
mal: "No, no Feds, just an honest brawl between folk."

My favorite sad scene is in "Safe" when Simon stands on the wood with River and says "light it". I always cry then.

As for favorite all-around scene though, it's just too hard to choose.

Woman, you are completely off your nut.

I've got a lot of favs, but one that sticks out right now is gotta be the scene in Train Job where Mal and Zoe just got off the train after Serenity has robbed it...

Mal: Come on. We stick to the plan. We get the goods, we're back on Serenity before the train even reaches Paradiso, only now we do it under the noses of twenty trained Alliance Feds. And that makes 'em look all manner of stupid. Hell, this job I would pull for free.
Zoe: Can I have your share?
Mal: No.
Zoe: If you die, can I have your share?
Mal: Yes.

I like Mal and Zoe banted. They are like a couple of old college roomies.

Two that stick out in my mind immediately.

The first bar scene in "Jaynestown". Specifically when after the guitar player sings "Jayne!!!", Jayne perks up like a prairie dog. Just the reaction was priceless. And then the end when the bartender goes "No hero of Canton's gonna be drinking that shong mao niao. He get's the best whiskey in the house!!!"

That's one of my fave comedy scenes. Fave dramatic scenes is in "Ariel" when they're in the hospital and Simon is looking at the holographic scan of River's brain. It's that scene when not only Jayne and Simon, but the audience realizes the severity of what the Academy did to River. I know the holograph was a CG image, and it must have been a bitch for Sean to react to nothing in front of him, but they manage to pull that off so well that you think what you're seeing is real.

**************************************************
"We have five million Cybermen. How many are you?"
"Four"
You would destroy the Cybermen with four Daleks?"
"We would destroy the Cybermen with ONE Dalek. You are superior in only one respect."
"What is that?"
"You are better at dying."

Trash talk between a Cyberman and a Dalek. It doesn't get any better than that.

Actually, now i think of the scene in Jaynestown where he realizes he has to peel all that tape off of himself, and the childish look he gets is just so priceless.

Simon: "Were there any Feds?"
mal: "No, no Feds, just an honest brawl between folk."

I prefer it a few seconds later when he rios the first piece of tape off, the barely audiable whimper he makes is hi larious.

My overall fav scene is from The Message, the whole cow feotus scene always has me laffing.

I also like right before that in that same scene:

Mal: (about the Alliance troops on the train) Makes it more fun!
Zoe: Sir, I think you have a problem with your brain being missing.

And then another good one is in The Message with Jayne getting his "pretty cunning" hat, and also with River's "My food is problematic."
But then there are so many good scenes that it is kinda hard to choose a favorite...

TERRI

Okay, for comedic scene it's gotta be in Serenity. With Wash and the inevitable betrayal. That's like the funniest scene to me. Of course there are like twenty other ones, many involving Wash and otherwise, and of course, every single one mentioned before this post.

For most dramatic part it's almost all of OiS. From when Zoe saves Kaylee then on when Wash refuses to leave his wife's side. I get teary eyed just thinking about it. It's moments like that, that make for great television.

ZOE: Sir?

MAL: Because you're my wife.

ZOE: Right. Sir. Honey.

My favorite scene is from Objects in Space. It is sad at first, then awesome, and funny as well.

EARLY: You made the right move, darlin'. Best
for you to go on with old Early.

MAL: You think so? Some of us feel differently.

Mal reaches out and PUSHES Early hard. Early lifts up into space.

River exits Early's ship and pushes off, floating down toward Serenity as Early's ship takes off on some autopilot sequence River presumably coded while she was in there. Mal waits below on Serenity, catching and steadying her as she comes in reach. He holds her hands.

RIVER: Permission to come aboard?

MAL: You know, you ain't quite right.

RIVER: It's the popular theory.

MAL: Go on. Get in there. Give your brother
a thrashing for messing up your plan.

RIVER: He takes so much looking after.

that is a top scene, well they all are, I love the mishearing "Lion" scene with Erly and Simon. and when Mal kicks the henchman through the engine in Train Job, I love the second guys reaction!

here is a more dificult question, what scene is your least favourite? or what do you think Firefly did badly? now that is something I struggle to think off

CANTER

I love the whole series, but if I had to think of one right now, it would be in Trash, when Mal is invited into Inara's shuttle and they start arguing and she asks him about the last cargo they smuggled:

Mal: "They were dolls"

Inara: "They were little geisha dolls with heads that wobbled!"

Mal: "Hey! People love those!"

His whole indignant stance and pointing finger. I'm giggling right now!

Funnily enough, also in Trash, where Monty says to Yosafbridge "Now I never did tell you his name", and she concedes.
Why should it matter that she knows Mal's name. It should be obvious to Monty from the fight that they knew each other. Why should it be so significant that she knew Mal's name without Monty telling her? It just bothers me a bit.

I'm in complete agreement with Gladiator...that sequence was beyond funny, especially when Zoe's reaction was added to River's - anything that could get that reaction from Zoe had to be pretty traumatic

Easy, two words:

Kaylee's dead.

I can't even think about that scene without giggling. I'm giggling right now, very undignified.

The only one criticism I ever had was in the pilot, when they talk about a Crazy Ivan, which was a term I had originally heard coined in Tom Cancy's The Hunt For Red October, a practice Soviet subs used to do to see if anyone was following in their wake.

Simon: "Were there any Feds?"
mal: "No, no Feds, just an honest brawl between folk."

TRAVELER

Good old Whim mentions one of my favorites from "Objects in Space" so I will have to go with another that made an impression on me. Where Jayne stands up after killing Stitch and realizing the young man who took the shotgun blast is dead.

Jayne says,"There are only people like me."

An awful lot of growing up on Jayne's part. I was proud of him.

Another kinda sad one that I really like is River in War Stories:

River: Played with Kaylee, the sun came out
and I walked on my feet, heard with my ears...
I ate the bits, the bits that stay
down and I work, I function like I'm
a girl. I hate it because I know
it'll go away, the sun goes dark and
chaos is come again. Bits. Fluids. What am I?

Simon: You are my beautiful sister.

River: I threw up on your bed.

Simon: Yep...definitely my sister.

River's whole first speech just gets me every time...it's so sad. But then I also love her next line too, just because it's funny in contrast to her first one.

Oh, I forgot to add this one from the pilot:

Mal: Ain't no way in the 'verse they could find that compartment. Even if they were looking for it.

Zoe: Why's that?

Mal: ....'Cause.

Mal: If anyone gets nosy, y'know, just...shoot 'em.

Zoe: Shoot 'em?

Mal: Politely.

I just love little silly things like that. They show that sometimes they don't have a plan or a solution to their problems, and it makes them more realistic.

SIMMY

One of my faves is in the pilot when Simon asks Zoe what will happen if the Reavers board. And her response is so chilling.
She tells him these horrible things and then says "and if we're very lucky, they'll do it in that order."

For a funny moment, I love the scene where Kaylee wants to question the buffet table in Shindig. She's so great.
