Hi guys, I had hard drive problems and lost my copy of the unaired pilot, the one with really crappy video. Can anyone assist me in getting a copy?

Trask43, thanks, I'm trying that. It may give me some trouble as I'm planning to edit it in with something else, and that place has only RealMedia files. But we'll see.

Gratto, don't worry about me, I already bought 2 DVD sets (one to use for converting others), and no, the unaired version isn't there.

The unaired pilot is assuredly NOT on the DVD set, and contains a noticeably different beginning, an extra middle scene explaining the Battle of Serenity Valley, and some theme music swiped from a variety of places -- "The Abyss", Stephen King's TV miniseries of "The Stand", and so forth...

History doesn't always repeat itself. Sometimes it merely shouts "Weren't you listening the first time?!?" and lets fly with a club.

(Sorry I didn't answer last night, I was getting sleepy.)
The unaired version is the one that Joss made and Fox was unhappy with. To address some of their concerns, he added some things, and re-shot a few scenes. The final version is what's on the DVD set.
When I rewatched the unaired version recently, I noticed that all the music was different. It was more western and felt darker.

EDIT: KURUKAMI's post wasn't there when I started this post - wasn't trying to be repetitive.

To paraphrase Cartman - sweeeet. Wish they could have put that on the DVD, so we could compare and contrast; in particular the differences with Mal that are referred to. Ain't even gonna bother trying to find it - at 56K by the time it downloads the browncoats would have lost at Serenity Valley.

Well then, let me just say that I have downloaded the impossible, and that makes me mighty.

Anyone know where this piece was borrowed from? One of my favourite scores from the unaired pilot.

The unaired episode is on the DVD. Well, sort of...

The deleted scenes for Serenity are the ones you will see in the this original version that never aired. For the most part, it is the same episode with the different beginning and that extra middle scene with Simon, Book, and Zoe talking about the Battle of Serenity.

Oh, and play Cantr II at www.cantr.net.

Not really. The scenes where Mal talks to Wash and Zoe about Inara, Book goes to Inara's shuttle, Mal and Jayne are questioning Dobson, and Mal's reaction after speaking with Patience were reshot and are very different. Joss points these out in the commentary.

There are also lines in the unaired version that were not in the aired version such as Mal telling Wash to try to find a compression coil after Kaylee asks for one, Mal telling Jayne to be faster handing him the sticky, and Mal telling Jayne to have happy thoughts when Badger's men pulled their weapons.

Also, the order of the first Reaver encounter scene and the Dobson questioning scenes are different between the 2 versions (which is why that scene is different).

The only thing thats on the DVD that was from the original pilot but not in the aired version is scene where Book talks to Simon about the name of the ship which makes Simon look up the Battle of Serenity and Zoe talks to him about it. In fact, the Zoe scene is longer on the DVD than the original version (iirc).

Of course there are also scenes in the aired version that were not in the original such as the Battle of Serenity, the crybaby, Zoe pointing out to Mal that they now have passengers along with their illegal cargo, and Kaylee saying she likes passengers and she loves her Captain.

Its worth getting if you can.

The unaired pilot is VERY different, for those of you who haven't seen it in awhile. (I just watched it for the 1st time last night.) Lots of lines that aren't in the official version; some lines not there that are in the aired version; and a whole different scene between Inara and Book in her shuttle. I'm really glad I got to see it. Thanks!

They're all on the DVD, too; go to "deleted scenes" on disc 3.

No actually, they aren't. There are several changed scenes in the unaired pilot that aren't on the DVD. For example, the aired "Serenity" has a completely different dialogue between Book and Inara when he comes upon her bathing in her shuttle. They completely reshot that, and didn't include the original version on the DVD.
