Hi everyone. Sorry to get sentimental, but I'm feeling a need to express my feelings. I just got a master's degree in math from UCLA. I bought the Firefly DVD about two months ago, and I wanted to say: the nights I stayed up late watching them were some of the BEST NIGHTS of my life! (And my life hasn't sucked either.) This show is just incredibly poignant, incredibly moving. It's my second favorite show after Buffy, which also had a tendency to put me in a state of total exaltation that lasted a few hours and lingered into the next few days. God, I love good art. My favorite character is River, but I love all the characters. Two moments from the show that I loved, just picking at random, were when River said, "No power in the verse can stop me," and when she's playing jacks and says, "I can win this." Tears to my eyes. Chills. Inspiration.

Okay. There there. (Pats myself on back.) Just needed to get that off my chest.

Ah, my favorite scene from the show!

Glad you liked it. Now go out, and create more Firefly fans!

I'm always glad to hear people sentimental over Firefly. Hardly a more worthy cause.

If we're talking River moments, I like it when she tries to fix the Bible. Tee hee. But sentimental-wise, when she expresses to Simon her guilt that he gave up everything to rescue her and then found her "broken". The scene plays really fast but it's heartwrenching really.

A real gut-wrencher for me in that respect comes twice. . .once in 'Serenity' when she says, "I didn't think you'd come."

Simon lets that sink in for a second, and then says very frankly, but playfully, "Well, you're a dummy." His gentle, teasing way of saying, "I can't believe you would EVER think that." River's reaction, is of course, perfect. . .just a big, cling-to-the-anchor, hug.

My second, and equally gut-wrenching moment is in "War Stories" when Simon finds her, immediately after she was sick and she explains how she hates feeling 'normal' because she knows it will go away. But when she asks, "What am I?" and he just holds her and says, "You are my beautiful sister." Then she confesses to throwing up on HIS bed. . .the look on his face. . .exhasperated, but unwavering devotion, the little smile she gives when he says, "Yep. . .definitely my sister." shows what a comfort it is to her just to hear him reassert that in HIS eyes, she is no different to him than before.

I love this show.

Welcome UCLAMATHGUY! (did "she killed 'em with math, what else?" flash through anyone else's mind?) ;)

If you check out some of the recent threads, you'll see that there's a good chance for a movie and maybe even a return of the series to TV, so do your part, and make everyone else at UCLA cry...er, um,...well, you know what I mean!

RIVER
Purple elephants are flying.
MAL
Good. Thanks for the update.

Thanks. I'm praying for the Firefly movie. And actually I don't even believe in God, but I'm still praying. The show, too. Gotta come back. Even a Firefly novel would be amazing. (Wouldn't that be cool--a novel by Joss Whedon? I know there's Fray--I loved it--but a real novel, that would be great.)

Gorramm yes!

When I was watching the show I taped it only once (and even that got lost) because I wanted to have the words to that haunting, uplifting music. I had that bit of paper stashed among many other randomness bits of paper. Here at college I came across that particular bit of paper and suddenly remembered the fantastic song that went with THE TUNE, so I went on line and did a search. Found the song, this site and the hope of a move and the delight of the series all over again.

And even if you don’t believe in a deity, there is still hope. We can hope for things with out a need for a god and that is just as good as praying.

CECIL

I'll have to say the moment that always chokes me up is the end of Aeril with Simon and River. Where Simon asks River "Do you remember why we went to the hospital" When Simon since "No mei-mei, time to wake up" the music in between no mei mei and time to wake up just brings a tear to my eye everytime.

MAL
"Nice shot."
JAYNE
(slurred)
"I was aiming for his head"

That part always chokes me up too! how is it that other people cant see this show for what it is? i dont get them. its like people who dont get buffy, i mean i was one of those people they dont watch yet feel free to express an opinion which it totally flawed. a show that had a run of 15 episodes yet could bring so many people to tears, laughter and sheer exault and joy has to be something special right? yet the cretins would rather watch trash like american idol and shows like tru calling drag on forever (no offense to eliza or doug whom i love with a passion) when a show thats a pure slice of t.v heaven is dumped... thats the sort of injustice that brings me to tears.end rant.

Static - Bingo

Concerning River and Simon, you just nailed it for me as well. Lots of things I like about this show... LOTS. But the devotion and bond that extists between Simon and River is , to me, the most endearing qaulity of the show.

KAYLEESBOY

For me the biggest tear jerker moment is either in War Stories when River says "No power in the 'verse can stop me." Or in Serenity when Kaylee is lying on the table after being shot and Mal is holding her hand. And Kaylee says "Your a nice guy Captain." Then Mal says "No I'm not. I'm a mean old man." Looking like he's ready to cry. Basically that whole conversation gets me.

GORRAMREAVERS

One of my favorite moments is when Mal wakes up at the end of Out Of Gas. His concern for Wash and when he is about to go back to sleep and asks: "Will you all be here when I wake up?"
Gets me every time.

GORRAMREAVERS

Another of my favorites is at the end of Heart of Gold. The conversation where is seems as though Mal is about to tell Inaura his feelings for her and she tells him she is leaving. Tears. There is so many poignant moments in the series....the more I watch my DVD's, the more emotional I get when I watch.

BROWNCOAT1

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Welcome to the board UCLAMathGuy! Great to have another fan w/ us.

I know exactly what you mean about the way this show grabs you. It is like that for me. From the opening theme until the credits roll, I am enthralled. This show will make you laugh, make you get choked up, and will make you want to cheer.

Now, with the movie in the works, and the potential for a springboard into a series return, we Browncoats have a lot to celebrate.

IDEFIX

another very emotional moment is in War Stories, when Wash breaks down back in the shuttle and tells Zoe about how Mal kept him alive. she tells him Niska's gonna torture Mal for days and he struggles back up and declares "Bastard's not gonna get days!"
makes the hair on the back of my neck stand every time.

and I also love the River-Simon applebits scene but that one was already mentioned above.

"Will you all be here when I wake up?" I forgot about that one! That's a huge moment for me!

And every time Simon calls River mei-mei. Does he do it more than once or have I just seen the episode so many times...
