JAMESTHEDARK

Marriage: Yes. I'm traditional that way, I guess. I wouldn't demand that my wife take my surname, since it's dull and I seldom use it myself (or my first name, for that matter...). Sometimes, though, I just want to tell the righties to calm down and the lefties to zip it about the name thing. Seriously, it's not that big of a deal. Sure, in the past, it meant that the woman was somebody else's problem to deal with, but that doesn't necessarily mean the same is true now.
Moreover, just because something has its roots in barbaric practices doesn't mean that it should be rejected. Most of our holidays (no matter which faith one ascribes to) have basis in one of two things, being either battle prayer/celebration or fertility rites. To say that the 'traditional' marriage is the enslavement of a free woman is de facto claiming that we haven't advanced culterally from the time when the men painted themselves with woad and ran, naked and screaming, to get mowed down by the Romans.

By now, you're thinking that I'm a hard headed Rightist, aren't you? Well, I hate to pull the rug out from under y'all again, but I'm not. I have no problem whatsoever with gay marriage. I have bigger problems with Christianity than with homosexuals tying the proverbial knot. Or abortion, or any other number of agendas which have the conservatives/Republicans up in arms. Refugees from Mexico and Cuba want to live in a first world nation? Hell, I'll even go so far as to say they want to live next door to my apartment? No problem. They have as much of a right to live in the lands of plenty as we do, and I dare say even more, because they'll appreciate it one hell of a lot more than we do.

*sigh*
Now you see why I'm a centrist. The leftists irritate me and the rightists frighten me. That, and they call me facist and hippy, respectively.

I need to make my own political party. I'll call it "the Common Sense party." Because we all know that its direly lacking in politics today...

*grumble*
Sometimes I wonder why I even bother....

I ain't lookin' for help from on high. That's a damn long wait for a train don't come.

Evening, all. Wow, I missed some stuff! Not a lot of time, so I'll just say hello.

Traveler, I agree with you regarding the Firefly talk. I started this to see what my fellow Browncoats were really like outside the episode, character, and BDM discussions. Turns out we have a well-rounded fandom!

Hey, Magda!

Ooh, "Happy Feet"! A movie starring Penguin and family! I'd like to see that.

MSG, I nominate pizza as a breakfast food, although it had that status already in college....

LA29! I find it hard to believe you were THAT bad!

NavySeils, well howdy! Glad you decided to pop in! Sorry it was boredom that made you post, though. Hope to see more of you!

Neko, I don't have either of those...but I do carry a lot of wrath in me. That's part of the reason I relate to the Captain....although McQ's post makes more sense.

Wow, Nico....dragged one out of the vaults, eh? I'll need to go back and see what my answer was then....because it for sure has changed! If I never get married again, I will die a happy man.

PR, I am dying to see how your views on this topic will change when you actually get married.

I do not have too much more to say on that topic. If it becomes a large part of the threads, I'll lurk for awhile.

GED! Thought we lost you! Good to see you back!

Alright, time for bed. I'll catch you all tomorrow!
:hugs: and to all and sundry!

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

Why am I getting flashbacks to high school and having people tell me, "Yeah, but you won't still feel that way once you actually have sex!" all the time?
Not to get overly snippy with you, Tristan, but I would really appreciate it if you dropped the "PR is young and naive and once she sees how it really is she will change her mind" attitude, okay? I'm not sure where it sprung from, but I've been noticing it quite a bit lately, and it rankles; especially as you used to give me quite a bit of credit and respect. My lifestyle and opinions have worked very well for me so far, and I don't think they will or should change all that much. If I didn't explain my views well enough, I take some of the blame, but I do think I know a bit more than you're giving me credit for, and perhaps you should read what I said about thinking that it could be/was a beautiful thing, just that I do think there are problems with it, too, and that a marriage license should be secondary to the true commitment.
Maybe that was overly snippy, after all. But it was also true. I'm not a child, okay? Whatever reason you have for treating me like one... Well, cut it out.

Aww, and you looked so happy in the old threads. Admittedly, I'm only up to mid-July in my trek through the archives.

If you find yourself getting too worked up about stuff that isn't real (RP Threads etc), then go outside, breathe in some fresh air and try feeding the ducks. (Because ducks don't care about your politics, religion, skin colour, choice of music or even your haircut. They like everyone, provided you bring them food.)

I've said since I was a little kid that I was never going to get married or have kids. A few years ago I changed my mind about marriage (not about kids though I'm just not mom material). It is not a goal of mine but if it happens that would be nice. If it does not happen I am perfectly fine with that too. I did surprise myself by discovering that if I am to get married I'd want the ceremony preformed by a pastor. I think the spiritual aspect is the most important part of such a commitment.

PR, no offense has been aimed at you at all. You are young, though I have never thought you naive. You have a naive outlook on some things, but you also have a very mature outlook on other subjects. You are an interesting person, and you do explain yourself very well at times. However, even though you do state "could be/will be" at times, you do have a tendency to get preachy when explaining your standing on certain topics. I am older than you. I have more life experiences than you. There are people on this board older than me with even more life experiences than I have. I read their words and take notes. I have had a little bit of a rough time lately, and some of these posts do rankle me a little...

Naw, this isn't worth a long post, although it appears it's a bit too late for that. Just know that I like reading what you have to say most of the time, I just sometimes disagree with the way you post. I have the same problem...I sometimes post things that bother other people. If, for some reason, you think I am treating you like a child, you are reading too much into something that is not there. I am not one to mince words. If I ever have a major problem with you, you will know it. Until then, don't read too much into my tone.

I'm done again. I won't be responding directly to you about this anymore. This is the Imponderable thread, and should stay that way.

Goodnight, PR, and have a pleasant day/night!

Three days without a shower. I do believe that's my longest stint since I was discharged.

Anyways, I'm back home now. I fought and killed for King George, and won the day with my fellow Maryland Loyalists. Also learned a nifty new song.

Goodnight everyone. I'll jump back into the conversations tomorrow.

Let my spirit rise, Valkyries carry me.
Take me to Valhalla where my brothers wait for me.
Fires burn into the sky, my spirit will never die.

CMH, I hope we'll be seeing pictures in the photo thread? And a description of events?
Talk to you tomorrow!

NAUGHTYMAN

MSG,I have to agree with you on the topic of Eddie Izzard.Every time I think of his dance moves in the movie Mystery Men I get the chuckles.Few people can make putting on a feather boa and doing a little disco dancing seem like a fun thing to do.

PR,someones probably answered your question already: yes I have seen his stand-up on DVD.The one I saw was his San Fransisco show that begins with those folks being taken down to Alcatraz.I imagine Amazon would have it.
