Actually, based on the current rate at which we are devouring sea life, in about 40 years there will be no aquatic life and we will have destroyed an entire ecosystem. It all pretty much goes downhill from there but there is still a margin of hope. Just think twice before eating fish sticks. I don't mean to upset anyone just telling the facts.

Well I'm not necessarily saying the world is coming to an end, it's just the ecosystem isn't doing so well and it's getting worse. If we keep it up it could be potentially dangerous to all of us. It is fact and I will prove that to you when I get home from school today because one of my friends has the link to a few websites that talk about it. We've just gotta be more careful with the environment is all.

Hey hey hey.... if Kaku can find a dimension in this multiverse with nothing but shrimp, I'd gladly donate some cash to the cause. 'Cause, y'know... shrimp. Anyhow, I prefer those like Sagan, Hawking, and Feynman's approach to physics rather than Kaku's "cocktail party" style, y'know? Interesting to think about (or talk about at a cocktail party, as it were), but the math doesn't really add up unless you squint your eyes and hold the chart sideways.

I agree. There's also the whole fact that Kaku et al aren't really doing physics. They just wave there hands really fast and hope that no-one notices.

Actually, the math does add up. Quite pretty from what I'm told. It's the physics that doesn't.

The problem is that they say that it is physically relevant. But, over the past number of decades that string theory has existed, they've failed to produce one experimentally verifiable anything. But, they keep going like it is physically relevant.

And then you got Kaku, Brian Greene et al going around doing brilliant PR which results in string theory getting public support which results in them getting all the money.

Sorry if I sound bitter, but I am. We have a number of fields that would actually produce real results, but they are getting starved b/c of the string theorists e.g. quantum computation would produce significant benefits from the practical to greater understanding at a fundamental level.

At any rate, rant off.

Well I'm back from school and ready to talk further about my previous point. There is so much fishing going on right now all around the world that the level of aquatic life is starting to deteriorate. Not much of a problem in itself unless you really like fish (which I personally don't). The problem is that without the fish the whole cycle of the ecosystem starts to get mucked up. Everything that eats fish (or whatever we get out the waters) will die. Everything that the fish would eat then overpopulates and stuff goes crazy. The true trouble for us lies in something called plankton. Plankton are something fish eat, they are very small. There are two subgroups to plankton (plankter if you're just talking about one), they are zooplankton (animal) and phytoplankton (plant). Phytoplankton are our main source of oxygen so oops, we run out of those and CO2 levels will be crazy and we'll all suffocate. If you want a clinical description of what happens to the body during suffocation, ask Simon. On another related note, has anyone here heard of Dr. Kalhoun?
