You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

The Operative's Sword and the Reaver sword and axe that River uses at the end of Serenity are available through museumreplicas.com

How did we not know about this before??? Well, now we do
For some reason, these pieces are listed under 'historical' rather than 'licensed'. Way to market

The Operative's Sword
Combing the galaxy for their prey, the Operatives are the most clandestine hunters employed by the Alliance. This one piece, high carbon, tempered steel sword is every bit as sleek and balanced as the movie version. The wooden grip is finished with a wrapped cord for extra secure maneuvering. The sword comes complete with an adjustable leather back scabbard, with nylon straps, making it a comfortable addition for any secret operation. #500962...$165
Overall 32" Blade 24" long, 1 1/8" wide, 3/16" thick Wt.-1 lbs. 8 oz.

May have been the losing side. Still not convinced it was the wrong one.

Shiny! Thanks for the link Phoenix Rose. These will look great on the wall next to my replica Mal pistol.

Maybe my wife will get this for me for Christmas this year.

Does anyone know what kind of steel the Op's sword is made out of in this replica? "Tempered" doesn't really tell me much, and I like my display pieces to be functional as well as elegant. If it's not high-carbon, then I don't think it's worth it.

"See, morbid and creepifying, I got no problem with, long as she does it quiet-like."

I am going to hazard a guess and say it's 420 Stainless Steel.

If you follow the link below, you can see a sword set that BudK offers. Before anyone says that these are not the same swords, BudK has offered (4) of these types of sword sets. (2) of them are anodized(sp?) black and 2 are stainless. It looks like they are not currently offering the "Operative's Sword" probably because the model's been bought out to sell for the higher "movie replica" price.

I actually owned the exact sword the Operative used a year before the movie was put into production. The only difference is that my sword has the nylon handlewrap like the link below, instead of the leather wrap that the propmaster obviously used to make the sword more elegant.

I found a site that makes Jayne hats - http://www.wearwithstyle.com/hat5.html

Does anyone know if this is real or has anyone gotten one from here?

I own ten (I think... I lose track sometimes...) Museum Replica pieces -- rapiers, a two-handed sword, some daggers, a cutlass. The pieces are made by Windlass Steelcrafts, and are what is referred to as "battle ready." This means if you put an edge on 'em, they can supposedly be used just like the originals (in the case of their historical replicas).

At one time, you would be hard-pressed to find any "sword nut" that would own anything by Windlass, but they brought their production methods around ten or fifteen years ago, and it's hard to find a better product, for what they are. Additional note -- you gotta clean and oil 'em now and again, or they will rust. This isn't stainless steel.

They are not, let me stress NOT, stage-combat ready pieces, they will not really stand up to serious, repetitive blade-on-blade combat -- but that's not what they're made for. Real sword-fighting ain't what you see on TV or at the movies. Apart from "Shindig," that was actually some pretty good stuff.

I actually do use their rapiers for historically-accurate stage combat, but not for the usual "swashbuckling" type stuff that most people see or think of when they think of stage- or film-combat.

Just tossing my experience out there for folks...

The Reaver sword and axe are accurate but the Operative sword isn't.
It has only four blood relief slots and is a little shorter than screen used.
Check the Propstore of London for photos of screenused Operative swords.

Having said that, it still looks very much the part and will make most people happy.

A version with inaccurate grips can be seen on
http://cgi.ebay.com/Serenity-Firefly...QQcmdZViewItem
I bought one of these with the intention of correcting the grips.

Well, looking at them closely, none of them are perfect. But hey, they're close, and they're pretty!!!

Hee! That poor guy. As I read the e-mail, I could just picture him fishing the hat out of the washing machine, cradling the wet mess in his hands, wide-eyed. I had to send him another one, I couldn't leave him like that. Heh.
