I ran across a webcomic that has the same feel as Joss's Firefly 'verse. Though it is not the same verse or story, there are parallels. I don't know if the author is a browncoat, it is well written, illustrated and updated in regular intervals.

Actually, the author admits that some of his inspiration for the comic comes from Firefly.

It's good, the author hangs out at scifi-meshes.com, so I've been reading it for awhile. He's got some of his WIPs up there too I think.
