TRAVELER

Will always hold a door for a woman. And women have returned the favor. I still think women, at least in this country, have a ways to go. A lot of women have started their own companies because they don't get the promotions they deserve at male dominated companies.

Our country will evolve. But not without people stepping forward and saying enough is enough. There is always a need for someone to take the lead. To keep pushing against the ignorance that holds them back.

In Wisconsin, when we voted a few weeks ago, there was a referendum about gays having the right to marry. They lost. But the truth is, there should be no reason to have such a vote. Two consenting adults should be able to live as they want. Why do we have to have a law to say something that is their right as citizens of what I have been told all my life is a free country.

Will get off my soap box now.

There are a couple of guys at work who do that just out of habit, go’bless’em, but I naturally don’t expect it, so I end up waiting for them to go, and they wait for me and I still wait for them and they still wait for me and then I inch closer to the door just as they inch closer to the door, and we both stop and it’s back to the beginning of waiting. (Eventually, I just throw my elbow into their chest with extreme prejudice, knock ‘em down, and walk through the door over their body.)

I agree with your description about Equal Opportunity vs. Down the Difference. You don't need me to say that to validate you, but I wanna. And I can.

I love a broad who can say "broad" and a chick who can talk about being a "chick" and a dame who's not afraid to be a "dame." Especially if they're talking about donating sperm. (Not sure why that is or why it's relevant...)

Oh, that hyddeous entitlement!! What gile you spawn!

Ugh, tell me about it. Sometimes I wonder if I truly out-argue my friends, or if I just outlast them. In any case, since we're on the subject of long windedness, I tried responding to you on the last thread, but for some reason it wouldn't post before. Here are my responses:

Quote:

Don’t have a problem with much of what you say, so if I nearly making your point, I don’t count it as bad. The “hunger” I was speaking of was actual hunger for food, not killing, although to satisfy the hunger killing may be involved. Sorry I obscured my meaning. Having the hunger for sex is not wrong, and perhaps the flowery language that calls it beautiful is yet another construct derived directly from the instinct to ensure it occurs frequently enough to propagate the species. As are many of the Biblical directives regarding the matter. I do not doubt that you are a Christian as you claim to be, but it seems in this area you are denying the spiritual aspect of the matter. But I’ll pick up that point in the next section.

Having a hunger for anything is not wrong, it's the manner and degree to which you indulge. That we as a people can stand to justify one act with romantic notions and shun another equally as important is truly a testament to selfishness. That's where I began with this whole thing. No one mates with the intention of making things better; they mate with the intention of pleasuring themselves, their partner and making a child. They're concerned only with those things that are near to them.

Quote:

Good to know about sleep deprivation. Sounds like a good reason to catch a few ZZZZ’s. I never need an excuse…But again it is the mind that need’s the rest so that it can catch up on the other activities it needs to do for the body but cannot during the conscious state. The body itself, not so much.

This was all covered right before the first week of SFQC. It was explained to every candidate what they would be experiencing, what their bodies would be going through so that we could recognize the difference between challenging and dangerous. Not that it made much of a difference. But my point is that the lack of anything that results in physical death is a physical need. Sleep falls under that category. Sex does not. It is not a physical need.

Quote:

As to your point here: this is the one time that I can remember where I flat-out, completely disagree with you. Denying the sexual instinct always, always has a negative impact on you. You can learn to live with that as you can with anything else that isn’t “life threatening” in your life, or choose not to. I don’t think this is just a matter of semantics here either, although it may sound a bit like what you said. The denial DOES affect you, emotionally, psychologically, developmentally if you’re young enough, spiritually if you believe in spirituality. You don’t decide whether to let it affect you, you decide whether to notice or care if it affects you. If you pick abstinence, it is at a price. Just as if you choose promiscuity, there is a price. Either way you give up a bit of your humanity. You would agree with me about promiscuity, I wager; why wouldn’t it be the same at the other end of the spectrum.

I don't see how denying sex has any negative impact on a person other than what they grant it. You might desire tasty foods, but you don't need them to be tasty. In fact, the more desirable foods like sugars and fats are worse for you, so there's one example of where evolution didn't work in our favor. If you eat what you need, then you will take in the proper quantity of those things as well.

There was a time where we may have needed fat storage because food was plentiful enough. Probably around the same time that we needed to fuck anything that would reproduce with us because our numbers we so few and we were so susceptible to early death. Both of those times are past us now. Just as people should discipline themselves to not ingest fats and sugars for casual purposes, so should they discipline themselves not to have sex casually as well.

Finally, promiscuity has several physical and mental drawbacks, not just for yourselves, but for those you are active with and those who might be born of you activeness, and those who might have to support those born of your activeness. Staying celibate effects only you, and in my experience and observation, in a much more positive way. When I see someone who is promiscuous, I often see a drug user, alcoholic, or other such unfortunately fated person. Not so much with the celibate. I know that my body has only improved due to my vows, as I feel my spirit has. I'm sure there'd be many willing to argue that I couldn't use my mind as a measure of the benefits of anything that I do; but that's another argument entirely. What I know is that I don't let certain incidents in my life paralyze me or send me running off to therapists for help.

Quote:

And lest we forget, “every piece of inbred trailer trash or inner city shitbag” has the very same right to exist—and yes, even prosper—as any of us, regardless of how distasteful that might seem to us “higher humans”.

This was by no means an attempt to classify anyone as being beneath me due to their social status. Rather, I was attempting to point out the result of their irresponsibility; the children. I'm sure MSG could tell you what type of children generally result from those types of families.

Yes, they have a right to procreate, but do they have a right to raise a child in an abusive environment? Or should their liberties as free-to-exist-as-they-want people cover any harm they may cause their children? We expect nothing from them, and that's exactly what they give us.

Quote:

Just because we’re not necessarily the last word in the Best Species Evar contest, doesn’t mean we should give up our given role. Could be the next species to arrive might feed on irredeemable waste plastic, something which only we could provide. Perhaps we only exist as fodder for the bacteria. That might be our noblest purpose but because of our vanity we refuse to accept it. Perhaps we exist solely as fodder for the cannons. We should care because we are a part. If you need a reason to get out of bed beyond the instinct to survive, it is because of a romantic notion that you and yours are worth something more, that there is a purpose involved here, and part of that purpose includes the need for you and yours to survive.

That's all exactly what my point was. You were saying:

Quote:

"If we extinct ourselves on the way to a higher peace, our various roles will be split up among those that remain. Our history here is short in comparison with the dinosaurs and microscopic compared to the insects. In the end, we all belong to the bacteria. What I mean is yes we might make things bad on Earth for a very long time even after we check out, but Terra is strong and will regroup."

As if us dying out was okay because the Earth would still be here after us. Maybe that's not what you meant, but asking why I should even get out of bed in the morning was not me going angst-shit about the inevitability of our death as a species; only a response I would have if everyone else just accepted it without even trying to change. Ergo, I see people destroying themselves, their children and the entire species with undisciplined fornicating, I get on a soapbox and try to get them to see the real purpose behind it. I wouldn't be talking if I didn't care.

And... no, haven't read Quixote. Not looking to add anymore books to my list right now, either, but I'd be interested to read it someday.

The cold's been around up here in the blasted north for the last two gorramn months. I swear, one day I'm moving to some barely civilized island in the middle of the tropical pacific, and regaling the natives with stories of frozen water falling in flakes from the sky. They'll just look at me, laugh, and mutter in their foreign tongues "listen to that crazy white devil spin his tales!"

Meds: There's no mistaking that anxiety was also a problem of mine, but the difficulty is that I also show heavy signs of ADD, and (and this one shocked me a bit) early psychosis, and the drugs the proscribe for those don't play well. Since the ADD is non-severe and the early psychosis is not hampering my life or processes in any noticeable way, I'm dealing with the problem which is crippling me, namely, my depression.
Man, never thought I'd have to deal with psychosis. That was a curve ball I was not expecting. ADD? Almost definitely. Depression? Long family history. Anxiety? Why not? But psychosis... Damn...
Well, I'm going to take my 1/8th standard dose and go to bed. Won't be any noticeable change for a few weeks, they say, though. Even so, it's got me... twitchy. As a chronic under-medicator, I hate being on anything...

Bah. I've got to stop talking. Y'all got enough imponderables without being forced to ponder the workings of my head-candy.

EDIT: CMH- I just saw a program about a guy named Robert Spangler. He killed his wife and two teenage children (and I quote) "to see if {he} was capable of it".
As soon as I saw that, I thought of you.

You think you know--what's to come, what you are. You haven't even begun.

As to not saying what is really being thought... If I am asked, I will tell. If I am not asked, sometimes I'll tell anyway. That seems to get me in a fair amount of trouble. So my question would be: Why is it so few people want to hear what someone else is actually thinking?
Especially if there is some kind of problem?
Because I'm a little tired of people getting up in arms about the things I say. Even if they're defensive for some reason. Especially, actually. I've found in my personal experience that those 'defensive' moments are exactly what you need to look at.
I haven't even been able to say everything I think here because it turns into pointless, circular shouting matches. So I've just been trying to ignore a lot of things.
It's wearing on me.
In fact, I'm not even going to read the rest of the thread. I think I need a break.
So now you all know what I'm really thinking.
Well, maybe you do.
See you around.

LA- yeah it could be the sequel to Snakes on a Plane...Spiders in the Mail

CMH- Yeah I'm kind of with you. I don't really like impinging on someone else's rights, but we're all so concerned about the parent's rights. What about the rights of a child to be raised without fear, abuse, mental cruelty, neglect, humiliation, pain, and deprivation. As far as I have seen, a lot of the parents didn't "exercise their rights and choose to procreate" they simply were careless/ didn't use birth control. They neither want nor have any intention of caring for their children and I really wish there was a way to prevent that.

Tristan- that explains why she hasn't answered my emails...thanks I was worried.

Mavourneen - I'm sorry you weren't able to make it out to the battle this past weekend. It was a good day, unusually warm, and for a big slap in the face to history, the Celts actually trounced the Roman legions. A good time was had by all.

JQ - You ever heard of an artist named Frank Frazetta? He does a lot of really cool pictures like that one. I shoulda known it was Conan by the look of his sword.

Also, even though we're a big past it right now, I'd like to say a bit on the subject of Women's Rights:

Some of the biggest "Women wants equal rights, but don't want to do the same bullshit work as men!" arguments come from frat boys and like minded males who buy posters of porn stars and Playboy Calenders. Here's a thought: STOP GIVING THEM POWER!

Seriously, you got a problem with them getting all of the rewards and not doing as much work? Then take away the market for them to do that. I think it's bullshit that someone can just spread their legs or licks their tits for a few bucks, but when I bitch about it, I don't turn around and buy a pinup of the same uneducated, stereotypically bimbos that I'm complaining about.

Here's an example: One time I went to the movies with a friend. I saw something good. He went and saw Charlie's Angels: Full Throttle. Whenever he bitches about bad movies or actresses, or about women having equal rights without doing the shit jobs, I remind him that HE is part of the problem. Those women are just getting ahead anyway they can, HE is one of the people making it easy for them. HE is the reason shitty movies keep getting made. HE is the reason that Michelle FUCKING Rodreigueze gets work!

I mean seriously, is there ANY reason in the entire fucking world that Paris Hilton should be known by ANYONE?! If men weren't so interested in seeing her get fucked in the dark, we wouldn't have to deal with hearing her name ever again!

Chris...I'm surprised, and a bit pleased, that you looked for me!

I'm sorry I wasn't able to go to Dagorhir. The son and I have been deathly ill. We're on the mend, but Saturday was a no go. The phlegm would NOT have added to the atmosphere!

Glad to hear the Celts "won." Our ancestors would be proud.

Paris Hilton really burns my britches, too. You could tear her down and build a perfectly good human being in her place, IMO.

I think, for most men, personality and intelligence trumps looks. Why are people giving this woman the time of day when she asked, in all seriousness, "Does Walmart see walls?"

Usually I'm a big proponent of impulse control, but in this case I will gladly make an exception. Especially since you have now captured the attention of Tristan of late. Don't think I haven't noticed...

Honestly MSG, I don't know. She'll be back Thursay (I'm picking them up in Reno). She's called regularly and says she misses me. I really don't know.
I heard from one of my co-workers that had the same fifth grade teacher as me an interesting story. I guess the teacher actually had married his wife right outta High School. Here's the strange part: He was a teacher and she was a student. I adored and respected this man my whole life. I guess they waited 'til she was old enough to marry before they did.

See age is irrelevant NV:) HUGS you do what makes you happy and fulfilled because you desereve that and so does she:)

CMH- Oh so with you on that!! Paris Hilton is a waste of oxygen and I would really pay money for her to go away. But again "celebrities" only have the power we give them. If we stop buying their products, avoid any tabloid with their picture, and ignore anything they promote, they will go away.

CMH, Whoo-hoo! The Celts kicked butt! Whoo!
*ahem*
Sorry, I'm better now, I promise.

LA29, all things are well, thank you! And not fair celebrating more than one holiday at once!

RIMG, glad I am not the only one. I'll be that guy at the convenience store on Xmas eve buying whatever I can find for gifts.

I have to agree with the Paris Hilton thing. I just don't get it.

Mavourneen, hope you and the son are on the mend!
And yes, I would rather have someone with personality and intelligence over looks, but the three can and do all come in the same package!

JQ, I have long been a worshipper at the feet of MSG. She is an ideal woman, and worthy of all the attention.

NVG, fingers are crossed for you, brudda.

I would like to agree with you here, but this country is full of so many very stupid people and others who don't want to focus on their own problems that I don't see celebrities like her going away anytime soon. I agree, they are a waste of oxygen, but I don't think there are enough of us (intelligent, coherently thinking people) to be able to create a successful boycott. If only it were legal to shoot people based on their IQ levels, or annoyance levels, or lack of common sense. *sigh*

We could just donate her organs, limbs, and skin to them that need them. We could also take her head and put it on a pike to warn other stupid celebrities (unless that would take the fun out of disassembling them).

well I'm not entirely sure her organs are usable. They've likely been starved to near failure point and all...hmmm though maybe we could just pop the top of her head and give some deserving individual who's dying a second chance. Scoop out that cute little golf ball sized brain of hers and connect up someone elses. I'd bet if we fed them properly and all they'd a have a good chance of pulling through and then at least she'd be contributing to society

At last! A use for it! But only if Jessica Simpson's is right next to it; I like matching sets of things. (probably why I'm a T man...)

As for the condition of the organs, while I'm sure that they would be emaciated, I have it on good authority they are well-preserved...

MSG, that's a great idea. Take someone who's body is failed and move the brain (Robert Heinlein did it in I Will Fear No Evil, though that was mainly addressing the issue [fictional] of a male brain in a female body).

How else are we gonna get you to step between us and risk nose and arm on our behalf?

RIMG - I swear to goodness, I am not ignoring you. We're dancing all around each other here and elsewhere and not acknowledging one another. I am sorry. But there were birthday wishes to be made and ladies' honor to be upheld and suchlike. So how's it going. (and keep that pipe away...)

LA29 - now it makes sense, the whole issue with the pipe. I am a bit slow sometimes.

JQ - It didn't cross my mind for an instant that you were ignoring me, as we both have had our share of tasks today. I am doing ok, still going through the down mood as wifey and I deal with everyday things, but still alive and kicking. How about yourself ?
