I recently bought one o' them nifty little Digital Voice Recorders by Olympus...
http://www.olympusamerica.com/cpg_section/product.asp?product=1269
...and decided to experiment with other types of input besides voice.

I used a patch cable to hook it up to my iMac, then ran my favorite scenes from "Serenity" (the pilot):
(Had to turn the volume wayyyyy down on my computer, because the recorder doesn't have volume control for input.)

• First meeting between Mal & Badger
• First meeting between Kaylee & Book
• First meeting between Inara & Book
• First dinner scene
• Private scene between Inara & Book
• Everything between Wash picking up Dobson's signal to Simon saying "Dope her."
• River's emergence
• Simon's "I'm very smart" speech
...and so on.

Basically, every scene that doesn't require too much in the way of visuals to appreciate.

Firefly dialogue works real well as "radio"!

Played a few of these clips for someone I'd been trying to convert, but who could never find the time to watch the DVDs.

First thing he said: "This dialogue is amazing! Really makes me want to see it now!"

Kudos for your new technique!

We were discussing at the Browncoat Ball how well Firefly stands up as "audio only." That's what happens when something has great dialog and actors who know how to sell it. (Of course the comparison we were making was to SW:ROTS and its wooden dialog!)

Yeah, and what's really cool is that this thing takes up less space in my pocket than my iPod and has an external speaker!

So, I can just whip it out and unleash all the Whedon-y goodness before anyone has time to "raise shields"!

Shepherd used to tell me...can't do something smart, do something right.
I'm so into Firefly, my butt glows in the dark.
