Now bear with me on this....

We all Love the 'verse. Sci/Fi evidently knows this, and the Numbers the series draws, because they still run Marathons of it. The latest one will be on December 12th. We all want More, as in another Movie, or a new Series along the lines of the original. Well, I'd like to suggest the next best thing, because if it happens it could very well Lead to a New Series/Movie.

Why don't we all e-mail Sci/Fi and suggest that they present Firefly in a revised format as a Summer Replacement Series? It wouldn't cost overly much, and will give revived life to our favorite Show.

Here's what I have in Mind:

There are 14 Episodes, if you count the Pilot as One Episode. Show the Series in the dvd Format, the way Joss Whedon originally intended them to be. Sci/Fi could have each Episode Introduced by one of the Show's Cast, perhaps a different one each time, and Joss for the Pilot Episode. The "Guest Host" can intro an Episode, and provide a tidbit of commentary or trivia at the end of each Installment. Show one per week, on the same designated night, just like a regular Series. It'll take all Summer and Folks can Tune in, Same Time, Same Channel each week. It'll be a blast for those of us already familiar with Firefly, and Introduce an entirely New Audience to it as well. This could generate enough renewed interest in Firefly to bring about interest in a Serenity Sequel.

If anyone would like to e-mail Sci/Fi about this idea, please feel free to cut and paste my little outline.

Thanks! TD/Tim

The OB and Sci/Fi Boards are taking interest in this. If you are too, the e-mail address for Programming Suggestions is feedback@scifi.com

Thanks!

Here's a copy of the e-mail I sent Sci/Fi. Anybody else write them about this? This came across as a serious idea, I hope, and not some silly fanboy whim...

***********************************************
Programming Suggestion For Summer, 2007
***********************************************

To the Sci/Fi Programming Staff:

Firefly is one of your more popular shows; Check the
Numbers from the last few "Marathons" you've had of
it, and I'm sure you'll agree that it's still quite
popular. It's also in the Interests of NBC/Universal
that it BE a popular Show. The Film Serenity is doing
well in DVD sales, and Firefly's popularity certainly
ties in.

So... Here's what I have in Mind:

There are 14 Episodes, if you count the Pilot as One
Episode. Show the Series in the dvd Format, the way
Joss Whedon originally intended them to be. Sci/Fi
could have each Episode Introduced by one of the
Show's Cast, perhaps a different one each time, and
Joss for the Pilot Episode. The "Guest Host" can intro
an Episode, and provide a tidbit of commentary or
trivia at the end of each Installment. Show one per
week, on the same designated night, just like a
regular Series. It'll take all Summer and Folks can
Tune in, Same Time, Same Channel each week. It'll be a
blast for those of us already familiar with Firefly,
and Introduce an entirely New Audience to it as well.
This could generate enough renewed interest in Firefly
to bring about interest in a Serenity Sequel. Also, if
Sci/Fi is in line for the non-paying Cable Premiere of
Serenity, this would be the PERFECT Tie-in! I hope you
all give this some serious consideration. It could
certainly work, to the benefit of all concerned.

Sincerely,
Timothy Dale Brown

DONCOAT

I hope it sparks some attention from the folks at SciFi Channel. I have a feeling they may view Firefly as cheap programming that they can milk for all it's worth. Whether they feel it's worth the time and cost to put together the "special edition" features you suggested is in question.

It would be a treat, though. *keeps fingers crossed*

Well, like I tried to say in my letter to them, They're part of the NBC/Universal Family, and it all interconnects. Maybe we actually see this more clearly than They do! It sure would be Shiny if they figured this out....

How expensive would it really be to just show the "straight" dvd version and have a BDH introduce and later add comments, trivia and an epilogue from a static Studio set? -LOTS cheaper than Starting up a regular Series from Scratch, even a limited-run Summer Series!

This is a very viable idea!
