Okay, sorry to start yet another wishful thinking thread about the characters that died in Serenity, but I've been thinking about Shepard Book's fate in the BDM. When he dies, we see Mal get up and lookk away, but it appears almost as if Simon was still going to help him, like Book had just gone unconscious. Could he have actually survived and the crew just kept it secret to prevent any reprisals?

Simon is a doctor; they try to help even if they know someone is probably dead, and they make it a habit to confirm death as well. I don't think Book survived.

I realize that FF ain't Smallville, ppl come back on that show at the drop of a hat. But remember Tracy's( the message) character was raised from the dead. I know that was how the eps was writter, but then again that's the whole notion. If Book is written back into the show that's for Joss and company to decide. The only way a fictional character can leave this world (or verse) is to literaly leave this world. Amen

Except if he had survived they wouldn't have put up a gravestone for him at the end of the movie. Sorry, both he and Wash are dead.

IMO it was a memorial.

Just saw the movie "Flags of Our Fathers" a really good movie btw. There was a memorial made of those men and the sacrifices made during the war. Three of those guys were still alive at the memorials completion.

If they( Book, Wash, Mr. Universe) were to be gone just remember that they were buried on a planet enveloped by an Ion cloud. One lightning strike to the ground and instant Wash-enstien or night of the living BOOK. Mr.U's love bot could be the mad scientist that brings them back :)

Oh Lord and Lady, zzeta, but I really hope that doesn't happen. That would be horrible.
Besides, I think the graves are on Haven.

The graves are on Mr. U's planet. That happened before Serenity left (which was the last scene of the movie anyway). Unless you mean those were memorials and they burried Book on Haven before they left for Miranda.

Anyway I thought a bit like you do during the movie. I was like...maybe he just passed out and near the end of the movie we'll shoot over to the infirmary where book will be lying there recovering. Sadly it was not to be.

Hello Miss PhoenixRose :)

Yepper, there is an old saying," You can't make all of the ppl happy all of the time." I'm sure that whether some of the BDH come back or not, well it's going to make some browncoats unhappy one way or another. One of the reasons I take issue with this subject is to create a debate or some discussion. If ppl aren't talking about the show, even in disagreement then there will be less chatter and that is not good IMO. We need to keep FF/Serenity alive and I know no one on this board will argue that.

Whether Book or Wash or anyone on the show come back is really out of my hands as an individual. But as a moving force in the browncoat army "We are mighty" as Mal would say. We have a voice and it is strong. My first job is to keep the show alive by talking about it. Good, bad, agree, disagree the idea is to keep the flow going. To let the networks and big movie companies know that we are serious about this. I think they do know. Why they are twittling their thumbs over something that can make a lot of money is beyond me. The acting on this show is some of the best I've ever seen. Really dredges up the emotion. These actors and writter should be allowed to continure their art. Looking back on history isn't that what survives, the art!

Oh well, I'll get off of my soap box now, Z out

It doesn't look like Mr. U's moon, it looks like Haven. And the novel says that it's Haven. I'll check the script again to see if it mentions where they are.

And yes, zzeta, I understand talking about it

But I still think Night of the Living Book would be... Bad.

Ha..ha... yes I agree. Book and (or) Wash coming back as reavers could be scarry.

Reaver looks up from the dinner table "Hey hand me that leg over here. Don't want to suffer from MAL-nutrition." :)

Didn't they use book and others to 'reverize' the ship? Don't think they burried him.
I highly doubt they survived breaking atmo . . . .call me a cynic.

StarrBaby,

I think with the shooting down of the Alliance ship by Book that there were plenty enough ppl to provide curly fries for decorating Serenity. Why use your friends when there are strangers about. Unless they didn't like somebody

" look at Joe over there. I never liked him. He never cut his toenails. Think I'll tie him to the thruster."

How can anyone tell who was whom by just bones? I really don't consider being scorched bleach white by my friends would be an honor. Maybe 500 years into the future I may think differently but more than likley I won't be thinking anything at all. Unless I freeze myself in cryo.

I agree that it's not nice to strap your buddies to a ship. As kaylee said, "These are our friends!"

If'n they decided to not use Book, I'm sure they buried him on Haven.

Book would have made a good decoration - if only the poofy hair would have survived atmo. (Okay, everyone, please take this in the manner it was intended - a terribly dark joke)

I was also frustrated after watching Star Trek: Nemesis on DVD recently over Data's "death." Those of you who have seen the movie will know that there was another droind, a "brother" that looked exactly like Data only more primitive called B-4. In the end, Data sacrifices himself to save the crew of the Enterprise, and I kept thinking it was a trick that they actually programmed B-4 to do it and Data was alive and well. But finally the movie came to an end and I realized that Data was in fact dead, although he had uploaded all of his memory and knowledge to B-4, so it is possible that B-4 may replace Data. Still, I think Star Trek: TNG has run its course although there many be other franchises in the future, and Breant Spiner has made it clear that he has aged beyond his role and is ready to move on.

As for Serenity, I think the deaths of the two character make the show all the more believable, although I think they should have made three movies and left Serenity for the last because it really was a closing piece that culminated everything in a grand finale. I know the sequels were never something anyone had confidence in, but now the course of Serenity as been changed, and too quickly I think.

FWIW, don't check the novel for where the memorial is, check the screenplay.

You know i really would like to know how he knew sooo much about crime! They kept that a mystery throughout Firefly and then they kill him in Serenity. So it looks like we will never know how he knew alot.

Same here, but I think the idea floated around here about him being a former ranking Alliance officer or operative sound the most plausible given his type of knowledge and precision thinking.

They put him front and center, 'cause he's their friend and they wanted to honour him :)

I am with the man who rode the donkey through the west gate of J town.

Leaving atmo isn't the problem the heat sheilds are for reentry that's when the Shepherd Book's bones turn to ashes. I don't like pointing things out it something a British tea sipping snob would do.

Well, we didn't see who exactly they stuck up on their ship. Mal told them to get a few bodies, but I don't think they "used" all of them.

I find it very hard to believe that they would have used Book. You know that Kaylee was not happy with using their friends. It is a pretty good bet she told Mal to stick it when it came to using Book, or the little boy for that matter!

if you watch the deleted/extended scenes, mal tells them to put book up front. they started to protest.. and he said book was their friend and they needed to honor him as such (or something like that). check it out if you havn't.

Yeah, that was in the outtakes/gag reel.

I kinda figure that they wouldn't of used the Haven residents when they remembered they have an Alliance ship full of usable bodies.
