I was just thinking that when Serenity came out in the theaters, us Browncoats knowing that it might struggle could have helped. We could have simply seen the movie, and then when we wanted to see other movies, just bought tickets for Serenity and snuck into a different movie. Dishonest, I know, but you're still paying. With enough people doing it and buying enough tickets perhaps some small difference could have been made? Maybe we could do this if they ever decide to rescreen it on a limited basis.

LOL Welcome to FFF fastmover... I think if you had been around the boards when Serenity came out.. you would have seen that all these things and many many more ideas were floated and implemented to give the BDH a boost..

and when Serenity2 comes out, we will marshall the troops and do it again!!

but you keep thinking up ideas.. we always need good ideas!

FUTUREMRSFILLION

Bottom line is that there was not enough support from the movie company. I know that the cast campaigned and I have since learned about all the Browncoats did to get it made, etc.

But I was in the UK when the trailer first started being shown and I remember being intrigued and then the showed the date as a full year later. Go forward a year and I am back in the US. I do not remember hearing or seeing anything about it. I had even forgotten the name. It only came to me one day because a group of us was discussing the original Star Wars and I remembered the trailer. I asked if anyone had seen the movie. We had to do a search of the internet and thats when I found FFF.net. Luckily, I was searching right before it came out - so was able to see it opening night. And the rest is me and my Firefly obsession.

What I am saying Fastmover in my long winded way is - Welcome! and don't feel too bad - the original Browncoats did the impossible, and I think that will carryon as the Browncoat tradition.

CLEMENTINE

Those who were Browncoats at the time cannot be faulted. Those I've met all saw the BDM (in the brief time it was in theatres) in the double digits.

The BDM didn't make the jump to many outside the converted and Universal relied too much on the fan base and (it seems to me) didn't work enough at the broader appeal. BDH appearances at Cons is one thing, on Letterman or Leno is something else.

I'd say that now there are 2 to 3 times as many hardcore Browncoats as there were even then. Think how frequently and steadily we get newbies (I count myself among those). It still might not be enough to guaranty a profitable movie if its only us.

Still, we've got to continue to support our BDHs and show what star power they have. Ratings, opening weekends, and demonstrable fanbases (think MySpace friends) are key.

What kind of puzzled me was when I was watching a video of Morena being interviewed at an awards event and her saying something like, "Thank you, thank you, the show is doing really well, so well that they're going to make two more of them. Thanks again guys." But now what has happened?

As for Myspace, yes I think more could be done thre, like all of the BDHs getting on there as well as starting a firefly page that people could sign on as. I'd add all of them to my friends list, and also my multiple accounts. ;)

MARTIANWAY

Bunch of the FF actors have myspace profiles, and there are about ten Serenifly myspace groups floating around the site (not sure about a Serenifly page--haven't been to Myspace in a while). Starting Myspace pages for the characters themselves--now that might be a good idea. Might enlist a couple on that.

In defense of the OB's and semi-OB's though, Browncoats were doing a lot of viral marketing around the time the BDM came out. My friend's team was looking at web virals at that point, and he talked about them--unfortunatly, I didn't bother to see the movie 'till it came out on DVD. Problem with the marketing (both grassroots and studio) was mostly its failure to reach out--didn't present Serenity as more then a genre flick and didn't exactly announce its existance to the mainstream audience. And since none of the cast were big stars at the time, I figure most of the new people attracted by the initial showing of the movie were hardcore SciFi fans to begin with (or people the hardcore SciFi fans dragged along, who then fell in love, yada yada yada).

I know one thing we did right
was the day we started to fight.

Sometimes I wonder if it's just a sad truth that all sci-fi films mave to be sace soap operas like Star Wars and Star Trek that have been all Hollywierded up to succeed. I personally think FF is a good and refreshing new approach that focuses more on the people and the problems they have, and you actually end up believing the show more that that is what really could happen eventually.

Do you happen to know which FF actors have Myspaces? I looked and only found Nathan. I like to be supportive and all, but I also usually prefer to stick with official stuff that is likely to get noticed.
