I think I'd like to see it on SciFi as well. I've been happy with the way they've treated Stargate. However, that whole Farscape debacle kind of makes me wary. Never saw that show, but heard they treated is horribly. The WB is another possibility IMO. They seem willing to give cult shows a chance, but then they've also done bad in the past.

This definately sounds like good news. I get the feeling that joss maybe wrote the best script imaginable but one that somewhat ended things ie. killing main characters over exposing killing blue hands/reavers but after reading the script and seeing the dvd sales the universal executives realised the potential for a series and asked him to write something that leaves it more open for a return.

I'm in St. Louis, and I would make whatever plans were necessary to drive over to Raleigh (as luck would have it, I LOVE to drive) for a shiny premiere.

Question, though, Static...Will you be stateside by then? It would truly suck indeed if you couldn't attend your own shindig.

Wouldn't that look swell on a marquee? heh.

And hey! Oklahellma is in the middle of the US -- y'all are all invited to come take over a theater here! And I got a theater all picked out -- it's right across the road from the Cowboy Hall of Fame.

NC is more'en a slight haul for me but if there's a movie and Static can get his friend to give a premeiere, I'll flash my a$$ to every State Trooper from here to Raleigh (or maybe I'll just fly in.)

Alright. Let us take a look at this logically. Sci-fi is a cable channel, and has far less money to produce a show, then say, Fox. They wouldn't be able to produce the same kind of Firefly that we all know and love.

No arguments there. They don't have the resources of the four majors.

However, they make their own programming all the time. They do manage to make SciFi Original movies all the time. Also, they produce other shows like SG-1 each week. While they are smaller than say Fox, we don't know how much money they have to throw around.

So, in conclusion, who knows?

YAHOOOO! What great news to wake up to! I've been thinkin-positive about the movie but feeling half-sad about it, too...two hours would be great but heart-breaking if we left the theatre without the possibility of more episodes, you know? This news will make me smile all day!

And hey--I'd consider driving down from Canada to see a premiere in NC. I'm busy doing a conversion of two friends in Boston (DVD set is on its way to them). They will be rabid Firefly fans within the next couple of weeks.

I'm positive they'd jump at the chance to go to NC with me. What a cool idea: road trip with much-loved friends, Firefly premiere, meeting a flock (?) of Browncoats in person, leaving the theatre with the hope of a revived series...

It doesn't get much better than that! YAHOOOO! Shiny shiny shiny shiny shiny.

And P.S.--10 weeks, Static? Fabulous. We'll count the days with you.

So I start daydreaming about what it would be like to drive down to the movie premiere. (This is all your fault. )

I get to the part where I'm crossing the border into the U.S. and the officer says, "Anything to declare?"
-No.
-Where are you going?
-Raleigh, North Carolina.
-What is the purpose of your visit?
-To attend a movie premiere.
-What movie?
-Firefly.
-FELLOW BROWNCOAT! That is so shiny! Move over! I quit my job! I'm comin' with ya!

Then we zoom off down the road together, yelling, "No power in the 'verse can stop us!"

Sorry to say it, but I don't think Scifi's the way. Prior to the BSG mini, they might have been.

However, Scifi has already got SG1 season 8 and SG: Atlantis season 1 next year; they came right down to the wire on whether or not to pick up Battlestar, due to it being so expensive.

Firefly would cost in the same range as Battlestar.

While its possible that Scifi might have been home to a Firefly revival, I doubt very much they have the resources for *two* such shows.

No, if you ask me, any revival should either go to NBC, CBS (I mention this only because they've been fair to Joan of Arcadia, which shares FF's old timeslot and at least some measure of its quality), or one of the larger cable channels like USA.

I read somewhere that it could be a direct-to-DVD series, which means Universal may be the distributor? I reckon syndication is always an option too. This is good news, but I'm waiting on the news that they've started filming — that, my friends, would rawk!

Raleigh is only 147 miles from Richmond, VA. I would be willing to make the drive for a Browncoat gathering for the movie. It would be great to meet people from the board and see the movie together.

I'm in Greensboro so I could definitely get behind a Raleigh area premiere!

as to the stations that could possibly air Firefly-- I can't picture UPN/Paramont airing anything that would show up Enterprise. Pretty sure UPN turned down the option to air the orginial series didn't they?

CBS I think has possibilities, tho my favored route would be a cable station like Showtime or HBO. main problem with that is the number of viewers that don't get the station....

We told a friend of ours to buy it and if he hated it, then we would buy it from him. This is a good strategy.

He ended up being really mad--imagine falling in love with the show only to realize it's been cancelled--all in one week!

So now you have all the more reason to indulge in peer pressure to get your friends to see this thing.

Honestly--I sometimes feel like a tupperware housewife pushing this show. But, like tupperware in the '50s, it's revolutionary.

Anyway, as a great man once said, I'm rambling. I'll shut up now.

weeeeeeeeeeEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

This is SHINY news indeed! Though I have two things to say:

1) If we get a movie premiere party, continental US please, as I refuse to fly with all the gestapo style paranoid security (conceintious objection).

2) If someone picks up the series, I hope its not Sci-Fi as that means they don't have the budget like a major network and I can't get that channel where I live without digital cable, which won't let me record show (poor design).

Sorry for the run-on sentance, THIS IS THE SHINIEST!

I'm in MD and I'd definitely find my way down to Raleigh for Firefly's premier if Static can convince his friend to do it! That would be awesome.

I don't know if NBC would be a good channel for Firefly because if you look at their current programs, there are abosolutely ZERO sci-fi shows. I don't know about CBS working either because they already have so many shows that cost a lot: CSI, CSI:Miami, Joan of Arcadia, and others. Plus CBS seems to be taking the route of reality TV for their new series as well. They have Survivor and Star Search (the two I can come up with at the moment). The cable channel USA doesn't seem to run very many original series. They seem to buy series that have done well on the main 4 channels and show those in reruns constantly. I think SciFi would be the best although the point about their finances is valid.

This is news YAY! Two questions:

1. Anyone know where/whom the quote is from? The link doesn't specify.

2. I have a theory (we should work this out): the "legal issues" referred to a couple of places are indeed regarding locking up movie cast members for a potential series return. What do y'all think? Reasonable? Wishful thinking? Both?

This is my first post here ( so please be )

First off let me say that I am not a buffy or angel fan at all. In fact I hated those shows, but I do understand why people like them.

That being said, I'm competely infatuated with the firefly series, that died waaaaay too soon.

I don't buy dvds very often, but this is the only box set I own and I'm very impressed, and depressed at the same time. Impressed that the series was just awesome, and depressed that it is already over.

My point is that there must be a bunch of other guys like me out there who are newly minted joss/firefly converts. So if there is a will to get the series back, i'm more than happy to help. There is too much crap on tv as it is, it would be nice to be able to watch something good for once.

My 2 cents.

FAN-FRICKEN-TASTIC! So thrilled. Have hardly been
able to bear netwk television for ages now, and
Firefly was a shining exception to the general rule. This movie seemed a hopeless dream, for it to HAPPEN, WOOOO. And now, we can perhaps hope
for a return of the series! If it's based on the
returns for the movie, I think I'll be buying

I can't say how much I hope this is true!

Can nobody disclose the source of all these happy expectations? Or get the story confirmed? 8 out of 10 on the rumour accuracy scale - anyone with a bet on where such a story could come from? The best would be to see Joss post here with his usual cautious "It looks like it's a real possibility. But more than that I cannot say. ... I don't want to jinx anything."

A huge thank you to Joss and the rest of the crew for not only bringing us this fantastic show but for fighting so hard for its future - wish we could help out more.

As for networks, wouldn't UPN be our best shot with the WB a close second (I know we don't like them much at the moment, but it would make sense for them to take the show and they have the money to do it right)? I don't think straight-to-dvd or Sci-Fi would be able give Firefly the kind of budget it needs and deserves.
